<< <i>I know, I know... no reason to be negative about value in the hobby. But seriously, because I love this hobby, I have to say, the fact that these prices are being created by ONE company (BBCE) makes the whole thing very sketchy to me. This isn't a supply and demand issue, it's a "How much do they CLAIM to have and how much are they asking" issue. BBCE can double prices on EVERY SINGLE ITEM THEY HAVE TOMORROW and what difference would it make? They are driving prices by telling us what they want. That's not how it is supposed to work. That's has nothing to do with supply and demand. Just throwing it out there because I feel that many people can and will be burned by overpaying for things that aren't nearly as hard to find as the prices indicate. People can and will buy what they want and that's fine, but there is nothing wrong with wondering these things. Oh to run a business based on "supply and demand" based on my own release of said supply. What I wouldn't give. >>
Excuse me. You were the one who posted this early in the thread.
It seems pretty clear from your own words that you have stated (or accused) a specific NAMED vendor of holding back on supply to inflate prices, and your basis for making this assertion is....................???
Just because you think it doesn't make it right to drag someone's good name through the mud. Show us a recent photograph of the proprietor of the vendor that you accused standing in front of pallets of unopened vintage , or some other document that could reasonably be interpreted the way you have stated it and there is no problem. But you have NOTHING other than insinuation and accusation.
Again, in your own words...so who is insecure and petty?
<< <i>$20k - that was the figure I was thinking Dave. I think today it could fetch $20K. >>
20k easy, possibly more as that box unlike the 72 ser 5/6 and the 73s hardly ever comes up for sale. (A series 5/6/7 box.) >>
Actually the 1972 ser 5/6 boxes are a lot less common than is realized. About 2 years ago a cache of just less than a case of them were found. I don't know of any other examples of this series being in the market.

Are you seriously denying that BBCE has the ABILITY to hold back product? REALLY??? My point was that they can sell for any price they want because they have the ABILITY to sit on anything they want or to sell offline anything they want. I never said that they ARE sitting on anything, so you are monumentally failing here. I said that they can say or do whatever they want because they are the biggest seller of vintage unopened on the planet. Show me where I said that they ARE sitting on product. Go ahead. I'll be waiting.
sportscardtheory, You should just stop while you are behind. You are apparently completely and utterly unaware of how defamation works which seems to match your understanding of BBCE and their "manipulation" of the unopened market.

I apologize for stating my opinions on the matter. I'll leave you ostriches to your circle.
sportscardtheory And we will leave you to your tin foil hat and grassy knoll. I think a lot of people agree that 70s & early 80s unopened has become significantly overpriced. Unfortunately your "theory" as to why that has happened is just not very well thought out.
Actually it is all CPA Mike's fault. He IS the one sitting on all the inventory and driving prices up. If you will look a little closer, un-opened was affordable until HE joined these boards. Hmmmmmmmm.

There are definitely scarce but I know Steve has sold a few boxes over the past couple of years which makes them seem a bit more available than they they probably are.

Does he at least throw in some camo shorts and creepy blue gloves? BBG, SCT, and Tim on this thread would have been the ultimate threesome.
