<< <i>My WAG from looking at the order number thread. There are some three groups of ship dates; early to mid-April, late May to mid-June, and mid-July.
If your order is shipping in April, you were early enough in line to get the coins already stamped out by the mint. Since there was a 50K combined total of MS and PF, they probably only stamped out the first 10K to 15K (a guess) of each?
If your gold is backordered until May/June, I think there's a pretty good chance you'll get the coin, they just have to press 'em, print the COA's, etc. Assuming (there's that word) the June orders fulfill the 50K allowed, they'll know soon after how many credit cards have been denied, how many cancels and how many returns. (You only have a week to return.)
So if you have a July date, you're probably on the waiting list. You just don't know where on the waiting list. If people would updated their order number and time with backorder dates, you might be able to extrapolate a better idea of when they ran out of pre-made coins, when they sold out, and where you are on the waiting list.
Monday's total sold was just over 59K, so I assume there are 9K on the waiting list, which might seem like a lot until you look at the past two ASE set cancellations.
Of course, we are talking about the government here, which could deny any sort of rational logic, so take this post with a grain of salt... >>
I think you're off on your presumptions. I have a PR/UNC Gold order at 3:54 PM EST with a backorder date of 6/21 that is in process with cancel boxes gone. I expect this order to ship in the next week or so. I've never seen an order go "In process" like this and not ship within days. My experience is based on 14 years of ordering with the Mint. I'll report back if anything changes. >>
Been ordering from the mint about the same length of time. I'd normally agree.
However, this happened to me on a later order. They shipped the bag. All my cancel boxes for the coins came back about a day later. If the line items still say "backordered", and not "in stock and reserved", then your coins aren't going to be shipped. My 11:05 order (5 minutes after sale start) has every line item saying "In stock and reserved", the order that went "in process", which had the cancel boxes come back, still had backordered line items. (And the order is still "in process"...)
Yes, please report back if you somehow moved up in line...
Funny, but all of my silver shows "HOLD," while my gold went in process. Well, except the last order placed around 230p. Weird. I placed an order at 1203p: IN process 1206: HOLD 1211: In process why the hold on the middle order of 5 pr/ 5 unc silver?

Regarding paying $4.95 for the bag if you cancel. I had 4 orders (my original 2 and 2 from irrational exuberance). I cancelled the 2 orders I should not have placed. My credit card charged $4.95 4 times and credited $4.95 twice, these are not pending. Interesting all 4 bag tracking numbers show them in route for April 8 delivery.
I have been out of the loop for awhile... Is it normal for a coin status to be listed as "on hold" for this long? I ordered the proof HOF silver coins at about 3:00pm - order number 42944*** The coins are listed as back ordered with a ship date of 4/16. I am concerned because in the distant past an extended "on hold" status was the precursor to the order being cancelled. Any insight?

<< <i>It looks like any order before 6pm is pretty solid baring Expired CC or going over the order limits. Even orders later are mostly good >>
What is your reasoning behind this statement? >>
In a Mint News Blog post, and elsewhere, it was reported that wait list notices started to show up for gold coins about 6:30 pm on the 27th. Officially sold out on Monday there were reported actual orders for 9,000 over the 50,000 combined maximum. There will be voluntary cancellations as well as disqualifications by the mint for expired or bad CC numbers or going over the order limit. As those things happen the absolute cut off time for orders will creep later and later. When will that be? We can only go by the latest order time and date reported here when shipping starts. Maybe there will be a thread to determine the day and time of the last order to be shipped.
The original question was whether an order placed at 2:42 pm on the 27th would be good and with qualifications I said it was probably solid.
Just got off the phone with a very nice Mint rep. He told me I was one of the lucky ones to have my gold HOF Proofs reserved. He said the vast majority of the people won't see their gold until July. He also said that out of all the customer service calls he's taken, not one had received the gold or knew of the gold being shipped. He also could not tell me when my HOF's were going to ship and that there were no Gold HOF's in their warehouse....whatever that means. They have over 100,000 bags to ship yet.

Made my purchases of all species on 3/28 between 1256am (42967***) and 215am (42968***).
Under 500 purchases made in this 1hr 19mins period. I have not seen too many posts with these times, so may be an interesting footnote for the number crunchers (GB, are you tracking?). I keep hearing that the Mint possibly still had gold available after midnight of the 27th and if so, I remain optimistic a few goldies will make their way to the far north.
Last I saw the silver proofs were outselling the unc's almost 2:1. This seems to be a fairly constant trend with the silver commems. Proofs are typically the favorite and somehow command better resale anyway. But if there is a quick sellout (could be any day now with only <52k / 13% remaining), will the uncs get an edge over proofs from a simple availability factor?

I don't think so, one reason why they can't ship all 400,000 immediately is because they will be minted to order. Proof or Unc will be struck as ordered. I believe the far out waitlisted people will be cancelled soon. The earliest waitlisted will benefit from people who changed their minds, money wasn't right, credit card issues, etc. the remaining waitlisted will benefit from those weren't satisfied with their specimen, and returned it, some will then be destroyed replaced with new strikes, some will just reduce the total final audited mintage. The waitlist will likely still be active in june-july, not all coins will be returns/retreads. some of the nicest UHRs were amongst the last shipped.
<< <i>The earliest waitlisted will benefit from people who changed their minds, money wasn't right, credit card issues, etc. the remaining waitlisted will benefit from those weren't satisfied with their specimen, and returned it, some will then be destroyed >>
...and just how does one know if they are "waitlisted"? I haven't heard from ANYONE who got the notice....
From what I can see the only thing they are shipping right now are the stupid bags which I cancelled 10 of but still ended up with one that will arrive Tuesday.
Has the first strike period started yet?
If so the only ones getting any coins for that will be the big boys and that sure is not fair.
One thing is clear, this waiting room thing and chronic problems which plague their ordering systems definitely prolong their offerings for a sufficient time to allow the public to perceive they had a chance at getting in an order. They had a chance because the mint's order system doesn't work...Otherwise 2 hour sellout...
<< <i> ...and just how does one know if they are "waitlisted"? I haven't heard from ANYONE who got the notice.... >>
I only speak from experience, no inside knowledge. The only way to know that one has been waitlisted, is to have read the disclaimer poster when the order was placed. Or recognize that an order was placed after the mint declaration. There is no specific NOTICE sent. The only way to know that one has progressed beyond the waitlist is to get In Stock and Reserved status after being waitlisted. There will likely be many spoiled orders (cancelled speculator first strike orders, bad credit cards, changed my mind, don't want it, expired credit cards, etc). Many on waitlist will be pleasantly surprised, some not.
No, it has not started. Clock starts when the Mint ships the first ones out to the public, you know the ones that get fair and equal access to their products....
My order, 4292xxxx was placed by phone, took 1 hour to get through. I was told by the rep that my order would ship by the 10th. My order says 4-16 and that date hasn't moved since order was placed.
I'm hoping they start shipping in the next week or two.
I do agree 100% that the way certain coins are NOW distributed seems very questionable. Fair and equal access? What you talkin' 'bout?

D.C. Mint Kiosk had some gold the morning of the 28th. Clerk said there was a line around the block and that they sold out fast w/no more HOF coins expected at the kiosk. That said, I'd imagine that they will eventually get some clads.
Mint (i.e., web and phone orders) was sold out of gold by MN of 27th.
Given the insane $ which the Balto gold are bringing, would have been worth it to have been in line early at D.C. Kiosk on Friday, bought the golds and then straight to Balto for grading...
Did anyone else who just placed orders get this when they looked in their account to check on them?:
