Items like this don't get lost. Steiner should know exactly who from his company handled this piece and who also had access to it. I think for all parties involved it would be best if somehow it showed up again. I agree 100%, this is not the kind of story the promoter wants as public info.

Please explain? What is the safest way to send items in the thousands$$? >>
Depends on how many thousands. For items under and up to $25,000 USPS Registered Mail with full value insurance coverage is the way I do it. Have shipped things over that amount, but in order to get around the $25,000 cutoff, I just put them in more than one box and ship them separately. However, if it's a single item over $25,000, I don't know what the best method is.
MIke >>
Over that amount, the route to go would be to have a personal property insurance policy opened with your preferred insurance provider for that specific item. Then, ship it registered or by private courier who carries sufficient insurance too. Personal prop. policies are not that expensive. I have one on a $10,000 item and it only costs about $30 or $35 a year through State Farm.
Jason, after a conversation with Brendan today, it seems as though they're accepting one of my presented scenarios for reparations. I won't post the details here other than to say it's a combination of cash and merchandise, in case there is a non disclosure stipulation. I'm still angry and depressed about it. But as of right now, I'm anxious to put the whole ordeal behind me and start a new litho (!)
Edited to say: by the way, let's hope they actually follow through. Ugh.
It seems to me that this is something that they would want to solve in a quick manner, which they have not. Just from reading this thread, I will never do business with Steiner. Someone like Steiner should take every possible precaution when shipping items for other people, especially items like this one. Items like that should never get lost. Its irresponsible and shows that they don't really care about their customers. I personally think this should go very public, and they should compensate you for the lost item, plus a large amount to make up for the hassle and the loss of the item. In my opinion, in this situation, I do not think demanding a large sum of money is out of line.

Was set up at Chantilly this weekend and Steiner's goons left with Mark Bavaro before he finished his signing commitment. Left many dealers high and dry with no promise to fill the orders. Keep up the good work! I hope they settle up with you soon.
How does a commitment work? Do dealers get a certain number signed with their buy in? At the end of the day? Or do u mean time commitment to the general public? How were dealers screwed? Seriously, I'm curious. Didnt know they were promised anything from signers. Is This standard, goes on at the national?

SteelerNation- The players make a commitment to sign for a given price for a designated amount of time or they get paid per piece. I too was at Chantilly in the back room and things were crazy. We had to chase down a couple players who were walking out the door to get them to sign items we had for them. They never came by our area. While I guess there is no promises, dealers spend money on photos and jerseys that are specific to a player that are worthless unless they get signed. I was at Chantilly a few years ago when James Harrison walked out without signing any of the dealer inventory in the back, which caused quite an uproar.

It could come down to the agent/promoter bringing in the player. Commitments are made with the agent/promoter to have the player sign a number of items. Sometimes there is a known limit of items the player is going to sign, then those items have to be rationed amongst the various dealers. If Steiner says Bavaro will sign 1000 items for the back room, then leaves after signing 100, you can see the problem, especially if dealers have prepaid mail order.
Just read this...one of the worst stories I've ever read..So sorry and hope you get this behind you at some point soon. Cant even imagine it showing up on auction sites, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Horrible. Was there ever an explanation? I get nervous sending cards to PSA let alone something like this...hope it shows up after you get compensated. I usually take the high road but if Steiner doesn't come through, I'd go to the media without question...this is a big deal.
Just wanted to update those that were curious. Today I received a check from Steiner for the amount we agreed upon. The deal also included some merchandise and a replacement lithograph that is coming to me with only Ewing's signature (so I can stupidly start a new one). Don't get me wrong, I'd MUCH rather have my lithograph back but I will give them credit for finally making good (for the most part) on the deal that we worked out. They still have a couple items to send me but they're 85% of the way to having this thing over with.
I still hope that I see that piece again someday on eBay or something. I'd be very curious what my recourse would be if it did show up. Having accepted compensation, I'd imagine I've forfeited my rights to it but I'd actually kind of like to know. I don't suspect it will ever show up anywhere like that but I'll always be looking.

If possible, contact the players who have yet to sign the litho and ask them to keep an eye out for it. You never know. I feel you are still entitled to the litho if it's found unless you signed something to the contrary. You have been compensated because of the loss, you have not been compensated to give up rights to the litho (unless you authorized that).
this one is not really the same. these were the original issue signed lithos, big difference between this and one that was accumulated over time
also, big premium for having all 49 signatures on one item - i think his was already missing some of the guys who had passed away so it couldn't even be completed
his was still sweet and i would be crushed as well if it had been "lost", but at the end of the day value wise they aren't in anywhere near the same ballpark
So, guess who has apparently lost my latest attempt at the NBA top 50 lithograph with 29 new signatures on it. I won't be doing this for a third time. Bill Sharman died after the first one but Moses Malone, Dolph Schayes and Nate Thurmand have all died since. Seems pointless to go through this again.
