An after-hours pickup at the Long Beach Show. A Basel City View 1/2 Thaler. Cool design, flashy surfaces (see below). It has a bit of a weak strike in the center, but I thought it looked really cool and it was a good value.

Wow, the second photo is so much more attractive IMO. I had to double-take to verify it was the same coin. Love it in the second one. Not so much in the first one, I would've passed. Great NEWP!

    Here's a NEWP of mine:

To me, the differing views are kind of like seeing the city at different times of day. Or they have different moods to them. I find these coins really inspire the imagination. Plus I think that rooster-dragon is really boss.

That is a fantastic way of conveying the differences in photography. I may have to steal that line image

A really hard token in MS condition. I'm happy to add this one to the collection. I believe it is the Courteau 186 variety, listed as rarity R1 (but not R1 in this grade) image

Not an expensive purchase, but I really like these British copper pieces. This is the most common date for mint state George V farthings; evidently a couple of uncirculated rolls were submitted to PCGS.

A couple new horses. The Canadian one sort of freaks me out -- a bit of a strange design IMO.

Never thought I'd say this, but Canada's year of the Horse design is pretty cool. I wasn't planning on buying any 2014 lunars but I might have to rethink that one. I wonder what harasha thinks.

As for the Britannia, nice to see an owl but I miss the shield. A lot. Gorgeous mirror fields, though.

Bought a 1903 US-Philippines Proof Set at Long Beach and had it graded... grades just came back:

    5 1 28456452 90016 1903 1/2C U.S. Phil PR65+RB
    6 1 28456453 90148 1903 1C U.S. Phil PR66RB
    7 1 28456454 90217 1903 5C U.S. Phil PR66
    8 1 28456455 90237 1903 10C U.S. Phil AU55
    9 1 28456456 521160 1903 20C U.S. Phil PR63CA
    10 1 28456457 90367 1903 50C U.S. Phil PR63
    11 1 28456458 90402 1903 Peso U.S. Phil PR63

A few came out better than expected, a few not as good... but overall not bad... Wasn't sure the 10 centavo was a proof and I guess it wasn't. The copper from the set was really pretty and the reason I bought it:

I have always loved this Kruger Gray reverse design. Finally found a nice example, with a little cameo contrast. This is the most common of the E2 proofs, but still lovely in this grade.
