<< <i>If you open the '78 pack and get a hit, make sure to share it with us! >>
I am going to open it, just not yet. I have 16 packs stockpiled far.....I want to get 20-30 together first, then do a box rip of sorts. I don't have anything crazy but so far it's (4) 1984 Donruss racks, (7) 1984 Donruss wax, (2) 1982 Topps Cellos, (2) 1983 Topps Cellos, and the 78 Topps Wax from Muggy.
I already regret not buying more from the recent group rip....I should have picked up a couple '81 Racks and Cellos.
Flatfoot's lot lasted all of five minutes. Is that the new 'pay it forward' record?

I saw the lot, but unfortunately, it didn't interest me. I want to donate something so bad I can't stand!!! I wish I could snag something!! Doesn't anyone want some old Sport Kings cards?!?!?!
Hey Manny, I thought you were going to put up a 72 rack pack, LOL..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
OK here is the next lot. A little mix with of course a vintage hockey card thrown in. Even if you don't collect hockey it is a cool old collectible. Here you go: 1982 Unopened Topps baseball rack pack
It seems the "son" is able to put together a decent lot but is choosing not to. Everybody was being positive and having fun up until the point when the "son" decided to join in.
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
LOL!!! What can the "son" say!?! He has aspirations of being the next Bill Mastro. So he traded away $10 and pulled $150. So what. It is all in fun. Let's keep the thread going!

Bobby ... I agree to keep the thread going. It's a lot of fun. I just hate when the people with good hearts on this board (and most have them) get taken advantage of.

hey lighten up guys. if the dad wants to teach his "son" it's ok to take $150 worth of stuff and leave behind $10 (i don't follow postwar but it can't be that big a difference?), that's his right....even if it goes against everything in a thread call "pay it forward".
a sincere thanks from me to all the generous members in this thread and for the OP who got the ball rolling...i'm enjoying the cards as well as the theatrics . don't post often but i thought this is a great idea and shows the great comraderie here. i'll be sure to jump in if there's some late 80's topps/donruss/score/sportflics packs being offered!
I'm going to suggest we all give the guy a break here. Let's assume for the moment that he wanted to do something cool with his kid, and dove in a bit over his head. He grabbed a lot that his kid would love, then found out the hard way that he really didn't have comparable stuff HE COULD FORCE HIS KID TO PART WITH to truly Pay It Forward properly.
Maybe I'm being too much of a softie, that's what I'm going to believe is the case. Anyway, things seem to be continuing just fine after the reset, so I'm not gonna think any more about that one hiccup.

I'm guessing you didn't follow the link above to a thread about the valuable cards his son had purchased. There is a difference between having comparable stuff and being willing to share the comparable stuff.
There was also the option to not take the cards and put them back out there if his son wasn't willing/able to offer something comparable. After all, the thread is called "PAY IT FORWARD" not "leave some change behind".

Lot taken by addicted2ebay and has been shipped.
Looking forward to a new lot offered by Addicted2ebay
Both sides of this argument make good points. Personally what I think we have here is an excited kid being a kid, and a Dad not wanting to break his sons heart. Either way we're past it. Let's move on.
If there must be a "rule" about situations like this then how about something like this......If a lot is not "taken" in 7 days then the lot received MUST be put back in play by the person who took it. This must be done within 12 hours after the 7 day time limit expires.
Within the 7 days people may choose to change their lot up to once a day in an effort to make it desirable to more people.
If something like this were to be put in place then everyone would know the deal going in. Men, women, children, whoever.
This IMO will help with hurt feelings, and bad tastes being left in people mouths over sub par lots being offered.
On a personal note to Frank.... I enjoy your posts about your collecting journey with your son, and I hope you guys jump back in this thread soon.

I think this is a good idea and a few people have done just that by adding to their lots. The seven day rule seems pretty fair to me too, as long as people aren't always waiting for each lot to be better and better.
