10 LOBs are killers when you lose in extra innings by 1 run. These, IMO, are the toughest of the tough losses come September time. Especially when you play a team that you should be beating.

Us M's fans were saying the same thing after losing 5 of 6 to the stinkin' Padres. Hopefully the day game today can produce some excitement for all the fans, and isn't a snoozer.
Yet another woeful performance by the Red Sox. The Japanese Wonder Boy gone by the 2nd inning with neck stiffness, now 0-3 with an ERA of 6.65. What the hell is neck stiffness? Oh yeah, heading to the DL with his bento box to sit next to the other Red Sox bozos like uber toad Lackluster, Jelly Belly Jenks (aka the drunk), etal. Boy, John Henry really getting bang for buck there!!
A paltry one run and then none. Great teams rise to the occasion, this ain't a Great team...too many non-performers. Think Reddick was glowing inside while rounding the bases...I think so!
Meanwhile, the Yankees hold a very nice 6 game lead approaching the AS break. They could well increase that lead as they arrive in Fenway this Friday to perhaps pour some salt. Only a Red Sox sweep would satisfy me, and that ain't gonna happen.
Oh well, we've always got the Boston Pops tomorrow night from the Esplanade by the Charles and the fireworks show. Crank up the surround sound and enjoy da show.
Leaving next Monday for 4 days at my favorite casino on the Gulf Coast...that would be the Beau Rivage. It'll be during the AS break, maybe I'll get the batteries recharged and have a more positive outlook. I shall pass the reigns to Pitboss to keep things real. Shuffle up and deal !!!
I think that the Red Slops need to put Dice K on Portland's disabled list and make him a non entity along with Lackluster and Jinks or tie them all to some of those rockets that they are going to be shooting in the air.
Oh and by the way leave Crawford in Portland to console them when they arrive or tie him to a rocket too.
It is time to eat some of the money that was spent on all those bozo's and quit trading all the kids for more of them.
We gave away Rizzo, who is going to be a great 1st baseman, because Gonzales was going to change the world in Fenway.
Reddick to get Sweeney, wow, nice trade.
How about trading the whole front office to get Mickey Mouse.
Oh, they already have him along with the rest of the disney characters.
Well, at least they got rid of Jenks...who, signed a 2-year $13m deal. He was 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA in 19 appearances in 2011. AND, pitched a whopping 15 2/3 innings.

he pitched fewer than sixteen innings. But it did look like hard work, all those walks and hits
Im actually enjoying my Summer and not being bothered with the Sox, I havnt watched Sportscenter in a week let alone the Sox.
Dice K shouldnt even be allowed in a Seadogs uniform, send him back to Japan and let it go. Im still holding out on Crawford, if he can put this disastrous start with the Sox even a little bit behind him it will be moving forward just a little, Agon is a constant reminder of the money spent on the BS numbers that came with JD Drew.
Red Sox continue to implode and are playing like a single-A team...I'm kinda done with watching for a while. Trade them all and start from scratch, or plow up the outfield, plant stuff and feed the hungry.
Swept by Oakland...now there's a statement!! This was the road trip to grab some games, not go into reverse and sink further and further into the cellar.
And what do we see now? Ah, that would be the Yankees coming to Fenway...tis a tough time to be a Red Sox fan.
More good news...Pedroia's thumb has become an issue again.
Not our year guys, I just don't see this team pulling this out of the fire...the team is just not performing like champions...just going through the motions.

<< <i>it was really cool to see Kevin Youkilis deliver a walk-off hit last night for the other Sox. >>
Why can't we get players like that? Youk delivers game winning hit in bottom of the 10th for the other Sox.
Meanwhile, back at the morgue, Red Sox fall back into the cellar, after a 2-5 road trip against the worst of the west, and have 4 games coming up with the Yankees.
there's a story on boston.com today about Ortiz whining about his contract (more than fourteen million per year, btw) in an interview with a Spanish language media outlet. What a loser. He's been whining a bunch lately. Just about every comment (well over a hundred) posted to the story is not supportive of Ortiz.
OH, BTW, that familiar looking face over in the Yankee's dugout? By golly it looks like...could it be...sure looks like...man, I've seen him somewhere before...YUP, Darnell McDonald is in pinstripes.
Now, as mentioned above, Ortiz is on the poor me disrespect trip thingy...ya know, I really like the guy, but if you have sour grapes over the incredible ton of jack you make for what you do...you can KMA!! Oh, BTW, really classless of you not to acknowledge the crowd in Oakland as they gave you the standing O when your 400th homerun accomplishment was announced. Don't let the clubhouse door hit you on the arse on your way out...ingrate !!! We saved you from oblivion in Minnesota, or did you forget? You yank in right at $87,000.00 PER GAME and all you gotta do is swing a bat 4 times a game ...you are complaining! Yo...Timlin's got the bus waiting outside for ya. Doofus!
I say this...send them all (except Pedroia) to the nearest Waffle House - Wendy's - Burger King - or McDonald's for 2 weeks as counter help. I suspect a dip into the grease will get their heads cleared up quickly.
Oh, and please dump all the fuzzy feel good BS commercials we have to endure between innings...the kiddie thing, the Sullivan tyah thing and above all, the grinning hyena Ford hustle that Lester does. I am way beyond sick of them all...just show aerial shots of Boston or the Cape, that'll do it for me.
Any possible way to permanently layoff upper management? I know John Henry has to stay, but the other guys gotta dump the ouija board and get their collective heads on something that resembles a plan to salvage the seaon. Any plans for holding off the Yankees, Rays or heeeeeeeeeeeeeere comes Youk after the break for 4? I'll bet anybody a week's worth of Dunkin' Donuts, delivered by Perkdog's Perkies that Youk is loving life and will probably play a pivotal role in whipping our backsides in perhaps 2 of the 4 upcoming games.
Other than that, I'm good...almost casino time!!!!!
BTW, my birthday is next Thursday. Huge thanks to Paul for that (special dinner) he arranged for me with the Perkies at Foxwoods. You're da man Paul!!!
Toughest loss of the season, no question. After being down 5-0 in the 1st inning and fighting back, only to let it slip away...a crusher!! Fifteen more games with the Yankees and just to cap it all off, we end the season in NY.
Whaddya think the Red Sox players are thinking as they are almost forced to stare at the AL East standings in left field? Or, are they thinking at all? Pretty demoralizing I'd say to see that HUGE 8.5 games stat. And, I'd say after Sunday, that number will be higher.
<< <i>Keep playing those kids, they have not developed an ATTITUDE yet.
We need more games like last night. >>
it was really nice to see a couple players actually enjoying themselves out there. Tried their hardest, got good results, and were smiling about it. Imagine if everyone on the team gave it his all every time! They might not be in first place, but they would be more enjoyable to watch.
I haven't chimed in on the boards in a while – but I can’t help myself anymore. I got tired of thinking about how bad the Sox really are and how much they appear not to even care if they win or loose – and didn’t want to reinforce that feeling by talking (typing) about it. They go through the motions of a baseball game and come off the field (win or loose) and it’s if they are robots. After that abysmal 4 game series before the break – they officially became sellers at the trade deadline. I really don’t want to see them make moves to attempt to help the team – because it will cause me to gain some false hope that they might actually make a run to try and make the playoffs – only to fall well short of their goal that they (we) fantasize about. Where should I start:
AGon forgot how to drive the ball Lester has lost his command Pedrioa swings for the fences – when he shouldn’t Let’s not even bring up Ellsbury or Crawford DiceK is in the starting lineup – really? I could have a higher strikes thrown percentage Beckett would rather be golfing Salty can’t make contact – unless he hits it out Oh, and we have Lackey to look forward to next year and beyond – that’ll really help
I would not be remotely surprised if they have a game this year that breaks the sellout streak – yea, ya might say I’m a little PO’d about how this season has played out so far.
<< <i>OK, I will try a fresh new attitude to see if that will help.
Go Red Sox! >>
Again I refuse to get emotionaly involved but what the heck...
GO SOX! >>
There is still hope, as the Cardinals proved last year.
Its just getting hard to cheer for this team with all the dead money on the DL or invested in underperformance, Big Papi's whining, and the clubhouse bickering with Valentine. I feel like the Red Sox have become the Yankees of the mid-2000s.
They are only 2 1/2 games out of the wild card race so there is still plenty of hope. Ellsbury coming back should help spark the offense in Pedroia's absence. Buchholz coming back should occassionally help too.
I'm not giving up hope yet. I don't have high hopes either, on the other hand.
I'd like to be more optimistic, but it just ain't there. Are we really at the point of being hopeful because the team is "only" 2.5 back in the WC? Reality is reality, it will not happen this year for the Red Sox...I predict a dismal finish and some off-season deals for a fresh start in 2013. Cherington can feed the masses all the BS he wants to the hungry readers of the Boston Globe and the blogs...it's his job to tell us all that he will right the ship, even though he keeps getting reports of taking on water. Far, far too many are sucking on the Red Sox dole, contributing NADA, just being a drag, much like others have done in the past, making incomprehensible amounts of money for zip. You seen them laugh and joke in the dugout, life for them, matters not, their coin is coming, rain or shine. Pinched neck, pulled groin, hang nail, stubbed toe, don't feel good...yep, we've got 'em all. I'm surprised they don't hand out Midol to some of these jokers.
Now, at 9.5 back, 86 games played, leaves 76 games to play. TWELVE of those games with the Yankees. September's schedule will bring the final straw, but I think late August will have us pop from the toaster.
The Red Sox would have to win a ton of games, more than 40, to have a shot at the Division. To hang hopes on a one-game playoff, thinking that will catapult them higher, is just not logical. Far, far too many one run games and lost opportunities that now loom large have passed under the bridge. It would take a Herculean effort by Lester, Beckett and Bucky, and history tells me that's out also. So, we're gonna get Jacoby back tonight, Middlebrooks, Bucky, and even Carl (show me the money) Crawford back this week...means not much IMO. Ellsbury is rusty, Crawford is a mystery and who knows what Bucky brings. Middlebrooks will probably hit some dingers, but we will still be plagued by lots and lots of LOBs and RISPs that go wanting.
So, I wear my Red Sox cap while in the casino for the past 4 days. A fair number of folks comment about the Red Sox, some are fans, some are not...most are bewildered by the overall performance of the team. All seem to agree that the season is over, given the standings with 86 games played. One person asked me about the Braves...told them I had no clue...then they said "that's an Atlanta Braves cap, isn't it?". I politely said, no, Boston Red Sox. Must be on meds I think to myself. Another actually asked me what the "red B" stood for...I was kind and said Boston Red Sox.
Had fun, lost a few bucks, but a good trip overall...nice to be home. Sat next to a guy from Lawrence, MA, just 6 miles from my hometown of Lowell...talked about old times and places we'd both gone to and enjoyed so much...What are the odds of all those people that he and I would sit so close? It was fun remembering "when". Small world !!!
A male flight attendant did give me a "go Red Sox" as I deplaned last night in ATL...I just smiled and acknowledged the comment.
Gotta face it guys, we're toast...it sucks, but it is what it is. They just aren't a cohesive team.
Red Sox Need to Acknowledge Flaws, Start Pulling in Same Direction for Chance at Better Second Half of Season
by Jen Slothower on Sat, Jul 14, 2012 at 4:52PM
Not many people have been happy with the Red Sox this season.
The fans have been unhappy with the team's record (44-43 going into Saturday night), which has spent more days below .500 than above it. Manager Bobby Valentine has not been happy with the team's injuries, and the bad bounces and borderline calls that he says steal games. The press, or media, or whatever you call the group that objectively or subjectively adds up the season in innumerable ways each day, has definitely not been happy with the Red Sox, in that it has constantly reiterated that this team is not playing up to expectations.
But of all the people not happy with how the season has gone so far, those outside the team cannot forget that the players are not happy, either. The Red Sox don't put on the uniform to put up Padre-like numbers, and any major league player wants to win. To say that the players are OK with how the season has gone so far would be a gross misjudgment.
But a major storyline of this season has not just been the team's poor play. Injuries have been there, but insults have come, too. The team may not like to be reminded of last September, and players may not want to know each day how poorly things are going, but it is reality. And, as hard as the Sox have tried to shake that reality with winning spurts here and stretches of good play there, the team has failed to mount a major breakthrough. This team has the gumption to turn its season around, but so far, it's been lacking that little extra that will move the group in a positive direction for the long run.
What the Red Sox need now is accountability -- a giant push to answer the critics, take blame for whatever has happened so far and go hard in the same direction. With players coming off the disabled list and pitchers finding their form, the team will get a natural boost. But that boost needs to be combined with serious movement toward an acknowledgement and dismissal of past problems. That will allow the Red Sox to go on with a clean slate, letting their record prove once and for all that this team is about playing hard -- and hopefully winning.
The Red Sox could use change in a few basic areas.
First, every time the team falters, rumors spread of distrust in the clubhouse. Valentine's first year has had its hurdles, but perhaps the worst part of the poor play so far is that the team hasn't had a chance to let loose and really get along with its new manager. Parts of the club felt the team needed major change after last fall, while others didn't see a mandate when Valentine came in. Whichever side is true, though, there's no doubt that the Red Sox would be much better off if unified in some way around Valentine.
Player-to-player relationships have also been said to take a hit, no matter how many times the players deny the speculation and speak up for each other. They may be right, and the team may be in order, but something must be happening for there to be rumors at all.
And finally, for as lousy as the season has been, and as much as the players have acknowledged it, the Red Sox are still missing a large measure of remorse. For the times that players have taken the blame after games and said they didn't get it done, they've also been slow to accept correction at other points. Valentine and some players often defend horrid stretches of play, saying the effort was still there. But true champions aren't going to excuse any moments that are less than excellent. Every "we gave it our best" needs to be accompanied with an "it wasn't enough." No hints of mediocrity should crop up on a team built for greatness, no matter how the season turns out.
The players have every right to be defensive, as they've had to take an earful all season about matters that are often out of their control. But that doesn't mean they can't be aggressive with what they can control -- getting behind their manager, getting behind their teammates and getting behind a no-excuses policy when it comes to superior playing. And while much of the team has done parts of this so far, the Red Sox won't be able to latch onto real success until all of the players start being proactive in all of these areas. A few new bats in the lineup and a couple more wins could mask the problems the team has to hear about every day now, but long-term success depends on the team making sure its house is in order as soon as possible.
One of the most difficult parts of the season is the divide that has formed between those who continue to be optimistic about the Red Sox and those who say they're just calling it how they see it. The supporters have grown increasingly tired of the critics, saying they need to just leave the team alone until it can get its feet back underneath. The critics, on the other hand, say the team needs to be spurred to play better and work harder, or it will have no chance to get its feet back.
What the team needs is a fresh start, a time where it can stop looking at what's been heaped on it so far and just plan for a strong half of baseball. Whatever problems there were as the season began can be shelved. Any learning curves with Valentine should be dismissed. Hangovers from tough outings can be relegated to another time. The Sox have a brand-new half of baseball waiting for them, with an even record coming out of the break. They can still make a dent in the league and its standings, but better yet, they can set a new standard for what Boston baseball should be, both now and in the future.
The questions of how the clubhouse feels or what has been said are distracting and often unfortunate, but they don't have to be the theme going forward. Those on the outside -- the fans, the media and even the manager -- can't change that. In a sense, winning can't change it, either, because that will just have people wondering whether it will all regress. But the players can do serious work in not only dismissing the rumors but also in proving them wrong. They are the ones who control their coverage, because they are the ones working with each other, and the ones who can win.
Dustin Pedroia seemed to be getting the team off to a good start when he spoke words of affirmation for Valentine the other day. Of all the players, he's had one of the toughest adjustments, as the manager he knew for his entire playing career was replaced by a guy he didn't quite have figured out. And now, despite a rocky beginning, Pedroia doesn't appear to be holding any grudges. He's looking forward.
The Red Sox should take his cue. A little self-realization and wiping the slate clean could mean a drastically different second half.
So, now the Sox are 10.5 back after losing last night. The team is not cohesive, playing like they're just going through the motions and many are living on the DL with some of the wimpiest excuses ever heard. "I felt a twinge"..."back spasm" and all the other crap. Carl (show me the money) Crawford returns soon, and I say BFD !!! Another loser who's just collecting monster money for doing NADA, like AGON and the Japanese wonder boy.
I'm done guys, really done. I've watched enough, seen the lost games and lost opportunities slip sliding away. The whole place is dysfunctional, from John Henry to the bat boy and most inbetween, with Valentine the cherry on the cake. It will only get worse from here, the schedule says so and the current team performance dictates mediocrity.
So............I'm really tired of moaning and groaning and complaining about the team...therefore...I'm done posting this year...it's pointless. This is a team that is not remotely close to championship calibre, just collecting huge money and planning their Fall vacations to world-wide destinations most of us can only dream of. My rah, rah is gone.
Deep down I'll hope for a miracle, but the odds are heavily against that. I suspect that soon the double digit deficit will get bigger. And, the players have to look at that AL East standings numbers during every game at Fenway. It will not provide them with inspiration.

I made the mistake of staying up late to watch that game last night; anemic is the word that comes to mind.
This team is just painful to watch. Dice K is not ready yet.
The players all look unmotivated, like they're drugged, just going through the motions and don't care if they win or lose.
And yet, they have a winning record, so maybe I'm being too harsh.
Maybe I'll just fast forward to the playoffs to see games where players look like they care about the outcome.

Oakland 3, Boston 2
Gave up 2 runs in bottom of the 9th. Some guy named Coco Crisp gets winning hit.

Next year we will just make believe he is on the disabled list with the rest of them.
Play the kids, at least they don't complain all the time.
I'm sure we can come up with a dh somewhere.
Tom Brady's brother in law, yeah, him.
Whaddya think the Red Sox players are thinking as they are almost forced to stare at the AL East standings in left field? Or, are they thinking at all? Pretty demoralizing I'd say to see that HUGE 8.5 games stat. And, I'd say after Sunday, that number will be higher.
Season's ovah.
You guys take care, see ya in a week or so.
The lone bright spot this season has been the bullpen, surprisingly. Odd that the two worst bullpen performances were against NYY
We need more games like last night.
Will Agon hit 10 HRs this year???
<< <i>My question is this...
Will Agon hit 10 HRs this year??? >>
I think he regresses/progresses to the mean and hits more than 20
AGon forgot how to drive the ball
Lester has lost his command
Pedrioa swings for the fences – when he shouldn’t
Let’s not even bring up Ellsbury or Crawford
DiceK is in the starting lineup – really? I could have a higher strikes thrown percentage
Beckett would rather be golfing
Salty can’t make contact – unless he hits it out
Oh, and we have Lackey to look forward to next year and beyond – that’ll really help
I would not be remotely surprised if they have a game this year that breaks the sellout streak – yea, ya might say I’m a little PO’d about how this season has played out so far.
Go Red Sox!

I'm not giving up hope yet. I don't have high hopes either, on the other hand.
<< <i>Youkilis has five game-winning hits in 14 games with the White Sox. >>
His attitude was different here this year.
<< <i>He would not have done as well for the Red Sox .
His attitude was different here this year. >>
Sour grapes, you don't know that and btw game winning sac fly for him last night.
He did not get along with Valentine .
I always liked him and am happy he has found peace of mind in Chicago and wish him nothing but the best.
It was Boston's loss not his.
You may not recall but I wanted to see him stay for at least the rest of the year but with the powers to be that was not possible.
(field of dreams) so the night was not all wasted.

*****************************************************************************
Be well !!
