Lol! You guys are like a pack of wild animals. I could envision turning on CNN one day and seeing a story where a riot occurred at BBCE when a bunch of CU forum members showed up after a rumor circulated that he got in a '72 rack case.
So far it looks like nobody is ripping a full box. I picked up four packs. I'll open one or two and save the rest. I'm still considering submitting my pack collection under this month's special, so hopefully I'll get a pack or two with a star showing to add to the submission. How hard is it to get a PSA 10 grade on unopened packs?

I've subb'ed lots of packs from the 70's and never pulled a 10. It's harder than you think!
57 - 1977 packs have beeb subbed
0 - 10 2 - 9 21 - 8 27 -6 6 -6
Just looking from 1975-79 - 0 packs have been graded PSA 10!
I was incorrect...here are the PSA standards for a PSA-10 pack.....
GEM-MT 10: Gem Mint A PSA Gem Mint 10 pack is a virtually perfect pack that should exhibit pristine corners and edges, which are free of any holes, tears or wear of any sort (including not having any wear to the corner folds). The seal on the reverse must be virtually undisturbed and free of any soiling or toning. The sealed folds on the reverse must also lay flush to the pack and not exhibit any lift from the seal. In addition, the pack must be "fresh" in appearance and free of any water or mildew damage to the wrapper or gum in order to qualify for this grade. There may be an allowance made for a small printing imperfection as long as the pack still shows superb eye appeal.
Note: The top card within a cello pack must be centered approximately 65/35 or better.
I think GAI required a full box for a 10.....having said that I do believe that your best chance for a PSA-10 pack would be from a box
Not wax, but here's a 10 I got from a cello pack I submitted a couple of years back.

I received my 4 packs as well today. I have a question for those who are in this with these packs. I have not opened any of these yet, but out of the 4 packs, 2 of them have broken gum that I can feel through the wrapper and one of them has a tear in the lower left corner. I guess my question is. What is everyones condtion of these packs??? I know this is from a sealed case, I guess thats why Im suprised that a few had broken gum in them and one to have a tear in the corner.. Also no star power on the back of any packs. The best is probably a Garry Templeton rc on one of them
Received a box and 8 packs around noon eastern. Box is staying sealed. I've opened 5 out of 8 packs with the following results:
1) Cards were consistently in groups of 6 facing groups of 4 such that no face of a card touched wax 2) Card at the bottom of each pack consistently had heavy wax staining 3) Gum between top of pack and card was usually intact, though several sticks exhibited some cracks that ultimately lead to breakage when separating it from the card bottom 4) Mostly minty cards with one pack exhibiting a little bit of a "crunching" at the bottom edge/right corner that nailed a few cards 5) Star power: Morgan, Yaz TBC and Brett
Scans will be added later. Not sure if I'll rip the other 3 packs yet, as I just ran out of CardSaver I's

Dave I got some ultra pro holders........ bust away!!!!!
Ok I couldnt resist because as previously stated, one pack had a rip in it and three of them had broken gum. The gum came off somewhat easily off of the cards but a little residue was left on the cards. All packs had 6 cards facing out and 4 facing out the other way. In other words the front of the cards were both facing wax in every pack. Cards all were in decent shape. A few had minor dinged corners, a few had minor surface flaws, centering on most were decent but nothing to special. In all I opened 4 packs up and only had 2 cards that book in the most recent beckett. Pretty much a rough break, but I am a collector first, so it was a fun rip!!!! Here is a scan of the 2 cards that book and what I thought is 2 of the better cards overall. Does anyone think these are worth sending in on a cheap sub???? Also all cards I opened are available if anyone needs any. Also this weekend I will be opening with a friend 5 1979 Topps Baseball Cello packs as well as 3 1978 Topps Football wax packs and 3 1979 Topps Football wax packs!!!!!! Thanks
<< <i>So it's too late for me to request a pack with a Dawson RC showing on one side and Ryan on the other?? >>
Yup ... Steve sent that one to me.

I requested the Steve Mingori, Toby Harrah pack and.......sure enough. One pack had a tear and broken gum as well, but no surprise. Will post the mint stuff later as well as the Dale Murphy rookie I got from BBCE for the cello bust a few months ago.
Despite the lack of treasure this time round, still a fun exercise.

Great stuff!!! please keep in mind (and you alluded to it) that opening wax of this type is for the thrill of opening it. Going into something like this with the mindset "i wanna pull a PSA 10" is not a good idea imo. You're ripping a pack of cards that is 35 years old! awesomeness indeed.
unrelated, i ripped two packs of '76 O-Pee-Chee Baseball last night and got nada! ha. but it was indeed a rush
Big Fan of: HOF Post War RC, Graded RCs WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
Opened two of my six packs and hit a perfectly centered Schmidt. The card is sweet!!! Upon quick look it has a print spot and a very tiny chip on the left edge.
Got my 4 packs today... nothing worth scanning. I was hoping to send 2 of the packs in to be graded but all packs had small tears on the edges. I'd guess I got packs from the bottom of the case since the packs did seem like they've had a lot of weight on them over the past 30+ years.
was hoping for better results but such is the gamble with old wax.
Comments
3 packs, will open 1, store the rest.
Thanks, Tony
