and to keep all the cards in one place ---- here are the Ripken Brothers cards that Bill (Ironmanfan) sent my way
from my thanks thread
What continues to make this hobby a wonderful escape from the "real" world is the ability of fellow collectors to make another smile and for this 40+ person to feel like a young kid again.
Bill (Ironmanfan) contacted me several months ago and said that he might be able to help me out with my 1st Homerun collection -- he said if I send his some of my customs that he would try and get them signed for me. Well as you can see he did. I received them the other day and the smile still has not faded.
I have said it before in my other post that the amount of joy that has come from this project has been amazing -- the responses from the players, the 30 seconds I got to talk to Lee Smith about his HR and now a new level, a person goes out of his way to help me out with an amazing gift. Like I told Bill I hope to one day make his day the way he has made mine.
Have you tried Don Gullett yet? Like Mickey Lolich, he never hit one in the regular season but did hit one in the postseason. It was in the first game of the 1975 Playoffs against the Pirates, off of Larry Demery. How about Tony Campana? His only home run was an inside the park one, off of Mike Leake. It's very doubtful that he will ever hit a home run again, unless it's another inside the park variety.

Thanks for the heads up!!!! -- I will be mailing a request to Don Gullett tomorrow --- I will shoot one off for Tony Campana this weekend.
His signature is a bit shaky but it was very nice that Mr. Batts signed my card -- there are not too many players left that still sign from the 40's --- 66 years since he hit his first
<< <i>First of all -- wow and congrats, this is bleepin' awesome.
I am quite jealous -- not only of the returns, but of the idea!
Do you print on card stock? Or just normal paper? Do you print at home or send it to a print shop? Thanks! >>
I use "card stock" paper -- 95% are printed on paper that is as thick as an index card the other 5% are printed on true card stock --- I can get 5 cards to a standard page and I do print them myself. Thanks Mike
I have to admit, this is an unreal project and it is done quite professionally. I applaud your efforts and wish you the best, the very best in completing your collection.
I recently decided after several attempts to find my "Niche'" in collecting to collect the 1951-date Topps baseball sets with the updated sets. It obviously is a lifelong project and I really don't care what my completed % is, just as long as I get the finest grade for the card that I am comfortable with purchasing or grading myself. I would like to have PSA 10's for every card from 1980-date, and work on each individual years as the come ie: 1971 topps will need to be 7-8, or even 9's, d/t the black boarders.
I don't care much for Autographs, but again really like what you are doing. Sorry to "Hijack" your thread, but I thought I would share...
If you need any help, I live near Chicago, and I am going to the National. Always willing to help.
im simply blown away!!!!! I love autographs & your collection made me daydream to those eras. The personal letters and messages are great, I have a few of those myself from movie stars. What a great feeling it is to open the mail box and see a return envelope.....and you seem to see it a lot....thanks for sharing

There is nothing better than when the auto returns out number the bills -- even my wife enjoys those days
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Lets flash back to September 30, 1984 --- which is coming up to 29 years ago.
The place is Dodger Stadium and the Dodgers are hosting the Giants. It is the last game of a forgetful season for both teams. The Dodgers will wind up in 4th place with a record of 79-83 and the Giants with a record of 66-96 will finish in last place.
Orel Hershiser starts and finishes the game for the Dodgers beating Mark Davis, who only goes 4 -- final score will be 7-2
Dodgers score 3 in the 3rd ---- 1 in the 5 and 2 in the 6th
So jump to the bottom of the 7th where Tony Brewer leads off. Brewer will play in 24 games have 37 at bats and get 4 hits in 1984. This seventh inning will be his 4th hit and it happens to be his 1st HR which he hits it off of Mark Calvert.
What might make this unique is that it is his last at bat, last hit of the season and his career -- he never gets back to the bigs. (Plays in the minors in 85 and Japan from 86-90) -- I never looked at any others to see if their first HR was hit as their last career at bat -- I guess his feelings really do sum it up.
