OK The past pages represent all of the returns in 2011 and all future posts will be returns from requests that are very long overdue and ones that have been sent out begging 1-2-2012 -- for this first mailing I will list the requests and track how long it takes or if they come back
I only sent out one request in December 2011 which was Al Kaline (which was returned) so I had pleanty on time to research and make up cards for a big mailing after the new year. The 49 requests below were all sent out on Jan 2, 2012 --- I will keep track of this group all year and post the successes when they come in (and when I get around to scanning). I have sent out a few mailings since Jan 2nd but only 5-10 at a time and I will scan these as well.

Curious on how you determine who to mail cards out to. I would think you'd want to send out to the oldest guys first, but I see players from all eras on this list.
"I think the guy must be practicing voodoo or something. Check out his eyes. Rico's crazier than a peach orchard sow." -- Whitey Herzog, Spring Training 1973
I was at the game in Atlanta when Kevin Tapani hit his first home run, a grand slam with two outs. Of all of the professional games of any sport that I have attended in my life, his home run was by far the most unexpected, surprising, laugh out loud moment that I have had at a sporting event. The Braves fans weren't too thrilled, though.
I would think the players receiving such an auto request would also think this is very cool.
I didn't read your intro too closely, but you should consider putting a couple questions for them to expand upon their memory of the event & see what they put in it -- as that would make for some very interesting reads & increase the collectible value of what you are doing.
Things like, do you recall the pitch count and the pitch that was thrown to you when you connected for your first home run?
Second, was there anything else from the moment or that day that you'd like to share (e.g., how you were welcomed to the dugout or what you had for dinner that night & who paid?)...
<< <i> Curious on how you determine who to mail cards out to. I would think you'd want to send out to the oldest guys first, but I see players from all eras on this list. >>
I did start with the older players and then I would find out they had a son who hit a HR (Vern Law -- Vance Law) then when I looked up the pitchers who gave up the HR sometimes they also hit an HR Hal Naragon hit his off of Jim Bunning and Jim Bunning hits his off of Camilo Pascual. I went through a few mailings that targeted a year -- checked to see who hit one on my birthday --- wanted to send only to a specific team --- lets just say it is all over the place now.

Those are some great ideas !!! -- and I will add them to the next bunch of letters
I agree with the thought that the players might enjoy this type of request --- I have had players thank me for remembering, some have written and /or typed their story of that day and I have had a few who have requested copies for themselves. This project has been an awesome experience and I am thrilled on how it has gone so far.
Thanks again for the ideas and I will post some answers to these specific questions if/when they come back.

I said it before ~~ since I started this project the returns have been great but what blows me away is some of the personal responses. I have posted the Jeff DeWillis card before but I thought it deserved a second look and a post all by itself.
Jeff De Willis played in 13 games with 25 atbats and had 3 hits in 1987 for the Blue Jays --- and never played in the majors again.

very little; his last year was Cal's rookie year; though when he gave up the HR he wasn't a member of the Orioles
