We're only talking about a $6-$7 difference between what is being charged for shipping and what it's actually going to cost the seller to ship (in one package).... and even that is offset by the fact that you got a great deal on the cards themselves. I'd just pay it, chalk it up as a cheap lesson, and move on.
Ding his shipping cost stars if you feel you need to. IMO the seller has done absolutely nothing here that would warrant a negative.

If it was me I would definitely neg him. Charging $10+ dollars for shipping 3 graded cards is completely unreasonable IMO. It's his fault for running .99 auctions that didn't pan out.
also here is another thought.....this guy may have more stuff you need in the future at reasonable prices....perhaps you can ask him about a discount on shipping for future possible purchases... don't bite the hand.....you know....if you did not win these items and nobody else bid he might be inclined to have a "repeat" customer for his products..then he might be a bit more flexible by encouraging multiple bids from buyers...
<< <i>If it was me I would definitely neg him. Charging $10+ dollars for shipping 3 graded cards is completely unreasonable >>
So is it reasonable to charge the buyer more than the listed shipping price if it is indeed more than what was listed? I once sent a package to Maine that was $20 more than the $15 I charged, I didn't hold the item and message the buyer requesting more money but chalked it up as a loss and a lesson learned.
Didn't really answer my question, but OK. I paid for the first card. Let's see what happens.
We all need to accept responsibility for our actions, however it needs to be understood that all things are not black and white. There is rarely, if ever, such a thing as 100% blame or responsibility. In this case I did read the auction description and did not see anything about "no combined shipping". I also clicked on the shipping details link. Again, no mention of 'no combined shipping". The seller needed to post that fact clearly, and he did not. He could have easily put it in the description section, where everyone would see it, but he did not. He hid it in the payment section, which again, I never check because I pay with Paypal, so why would I check that section? He was misleading and that is WRONG. The seller needs to take his share of responsibility for not being up front. What needs to be understood is that following the rules to the letter can be wrong. Dead wrong. I know that is a difficult concept, but no less true. I'll bet we could think of plenty of things that go on in this world that are "legal" and "by the rules" but are wrong. It is ignorant and dangerous to think that legislation or rule or law is right and just merely due to it's existence.
So I am guessing this ends the saga. I did not make out beautifully as some of you think. I am paying 5 bucks a card for cards that routinely go for .99. I did not get some great deals here. I will neg this seller. Why? Because I am not happy with this transaction at all. I believe the seller was misleading in his listing, and I don't believe he is being honest about his baseball card warehouse. Also, I would like others to know of the seller's misleading practices and negging him will assure that. If OTW could have done that, he would definitely have saved me the trouble. I hope my negs can do the same for someone else.

I get what everyone is saying about how the seller stated his terms. However, just because you say what you are going to do ahead of time, does that automatically make it right? This is an extreme example, but if I sign a contract with someone and the terms include, "If Mike does not fulfill his end of the contract, I can kidnap and murder his firstborn," would that contract be legal? NO.
Just because the seller stated that he would not combine shipping, does not make it "good business" for him not to do so. I know that if I ever tried pulling this on eBay with someone, I would get negged to hell.
Seller really has done nothing wrong. If the arrive in one package ding his stars. In the long run a low rating will alert buyers and/or get him suspended from ebay.

Nope, again it is YOU who is missing the point by assuming that all sellers combine on shipping.
did you stop to think that maybe the reason you got the cards so cheap is BECAUSE he doesn't combine shipping? Had he combined shipping it probably would have induced buyers to bid them up a little more since they knew $3.50 was gonna be the total shipping charge.
Of course he's not maximizing his profit with this business model that is sure to tick most buyers off, but then again 99% of ebay sellers don't maximize their profits. Now, if he ships them all in the same package I'd file a claim and call him a DB. imo

You have completely missed the point, regardless of how much you insist that you understand.
The seller has no obligation to send the items separately or give you a discount on shipping. These are all assumptions that you and others are making.
Since I'm now the one that you've decided to blame for not warning you and others by leaving NEGATIVE feedback (even though the seller did nothing wrong), please let me know your PayPal address and I'll forward you the $5.00 you've had stolen because I didn't warn you. This is a serious offer...
I do not understand why some people don't get it even though they insist that they do understand.
Agree with most here, had a similar situation myself and was blasted a few years ago. If it is in the listing, no matter where, it is yours. Is it his fault you did not read the listing? Should have asked the question before you bid, not try to change it after you got invoice, bragging about $3+ for 3 mint cards, then crying about shipping. I always make sure I read listing for shipping and bid accordingly, agreed that that is probably why you got them for what you did.

Perhaps you should reread what I've written over the entire thread. Yeah, I paid shipping $14.00 shipping for 4 graded cards. I got "hosed" because I assumed. I didn't run around blaming the seller or anything. But now, you've blamed me for not alerting you by leaving NEGATIVE feedback while insisting that the seller is wrong. I'm just offering to pay you for what the seller won't discount you to make up for my transgression. But instead, you decide to be a unreasonable. Just like the seller has been unreasonable.
And look back to who posted the Dr. Cooper image... T'was not I!
This is a cut and dry situation. His auctions state he does not combine shipping. Plain and simple. Is it a bad business practice of course it is. How do you fix that don't buy from him and perhaps he must rethink his strategy as his results suffer.
You should be thrilled he has obscene shipping charges and that is most likely why you got the cards for the price you did. Sellers with extremely large shipping costs get much fewer bids and overall lower selling prices.
I would look at the transaction has a whole and you still did great.
If paying a little over $4 for cards graded in a PSA 9 holder is too much perhaps you need to find a new hobby.
I think leaving negative feedback here is completely uncalled for and if done should put you on ALL blocked bidders list.
You are the one that is in the wrong. No one held a gun to your head and said bid. When you place a bid you are agreeing to the terms period.

I know you didn't post the image. I was calling you Dr. Cooper. It was a joke.
You got hosed because the seller acted inappropriately and you know it. If the seller stated 3.50 per card but then sent you an invoice and indicated free shipping, you would not have felt hosed. You used the word hosed for a reason.
As far as your "blame" (your word, not mine) yes, we all need to understand that we all are responsible for our actions. When we do something, or fail to do something, our action or inaction can and will affect others. The sooner you understand that the happier you will be.
Both buyer and seller factor shipping AND handling charges into the selling and buying price of a card. This could include Paypal and/or ebay fees. And if ebay is going to take a cut of those charges, I have no problem with sellers making a small bit of a profit in their shipping/handling charges. Honestly, it should have never been a part of feedback rating. Feedback should only include categories and comments related to how the transaction went AFTER it was purchased - not related to the stated and agreed upon charges at the time the card was purchased.

I realize the Cooper comment was a joke. I do have a sense of humor. But you suggested that I was to blame for you getting hosed. Again, I (and you) assumed that he would combine shipping. We were both wrong. I have accepted that. You haven't!!! Instead, you still want to blame the seller and you blame me. I am officially done with this thread. I've offered you the shipping difference (which I now take off the board) and you still don't see that up are pissing up a rope on this. You can continue to complain about it, you can leave a negative or you can learn to ask questions BEFORE the auction ends. Regardless, you've completely missed the point that others have tried to explain to you. You are upset because the seller will not change the terms of their auction AFTER the fact regardless of how you decide to spin it.
" I have no problem with sellers making a small bit of a profit in their shipping/handling charges"........Ridiculous!
"Feedback should only include categories and comments related to how the transaction went AFTER it was purchased - not related to the stated and agreed upon charges at the time the card was purchased"........Absolutely correct!
Ebay 101 Shipping is listed at $3.50. There's nothing in the item description about combined shipping policy. So if the seller's policy on this is important to you then you click on See All Details for additional info, and if there's nothing in there then you contact the seller before bidding to find out his policy. The OP said he did go looking but somehow missed the large caps stating his policy. Seller's payment instructions SORRY, NO COMBINED SHIPPING So instead of contacting the seller to find out what the deal is he just bid away not knowing how the seller will handle multiple purchases. This is dumb because your bids will be either too high or too low if you're not working shipping costs into your bid. Your bids against other bidders who know the rules will be either too high or too low. You bid not knowing if extra items you won would cost you 0,.50, 1.00, 2.00, or 3.50.
Sometimes negatives in a situation posted are clearly warranted and agreed upon by all posters in a thread. In this case the OP will wind up on 50% of reader's blocked bidder lists, first for reading comprehension, then for being a Richard about the situation. The OP can shoot for a full 100% by leaving the negatives on Christmas day.

Go post another idiotic top 10 list. Man you're clueless.
OK, I think this needs to be put to bed. What started out as a genuine concern of mine turned into name calling and ill-feelings that are just not necessary. I apologize for baiting OTW. That was uncalled for.
For closure, I did contact eBay customer service and asked some questions about policy, etc. Here is where it will be left:
I paid for the first card. When I receive tracking information and can confirm it has shipped I will pay for the second one. When I receive tracking information and can confirm it has shipped I will pay for the third card. The rep said this is perfectly acceptable. Shipping and handling charges are for shipping and handling only. The rep confirmed that.
I will leave a negative. I personally believe that it was misleading to not put that policy right up front. I also do not believe that because they ship from some baseball card warehouse that they cannot combine shipping. For being dishonest, in my opinion, I will leave a negative. If he just said "that is my policy, it is stated in the listing" I couldn't neg him for dishonesty; however his explanation is just not realistic. As someone pointed out earlier, warehouses and sellers have the ability to communicate. The rep said that is perfectly acceptable to neg in this case. I know there are going to be some who are uncomfortable with that, however, I am not breaking any rules. The rep confirmed that. I asked. (As an aside, I have never left a negative before this.)
I never implied or stated I would steal the seller's cards if they came in one envelope although some had mentioned that. I also never implied or stated that I would not pay the seller full price if there was no compromise. In fact, multiple times I stated the opposite. I never considered cancelling or not paying. My actions with the seller were and are all above board. Asking him to compromise with the shipping issue was not unfair. It was just a request to address a misunderstanding. His to accept or decline. He declined. He is getting his money.
The more stubborn and belligerent people are, after receiving advice they don't want to hear, the higher the post count. The post count in these cases are inversely proportional to the OP's ability to admit they're wrong.
You know it's slow on the boards when a thread like this one gets to 100 posts in 24 hours..

Of course he's not maximizing his profit with this business model that is sure to tick most buyers off, but then again 99% of ebay sellers don't maximize their profits. Now, if he ships them all in the same package I'd file a claim and call him a DB. imo
<< <i>Nope, again it is YOU who is missing the point by assuming that all sellers combine on shipping.
This is why I am paying him in full. I made an incorrect assumption, and I need to accept my share of responsibility. I never said the seller is 100% wrong. Not sure why some others cannot see that things are never black and white. It's like talking to Sheldon!

It sure does matter what I believe.
He was purposefully misleading. That is justification.
No matter where? Bzzzzzt.
Will ding the stars.
Will leave a neg. It is appropriate.

AWESOME!
<< <i>Don't worry... They'll all come in one package. Even if you pay separately, they'll ship them together. Bank on it! >>
well if one wanted to cause problems they could file a non delivery on 2 of the 3 items but as others have stated that would be BS.
If they come in 1 envelope he deserves some hammering on his stars, etc.
If they arrive in 3 envelopes with tracking then nothing but positives.
<< <i>So I am guessing this ends the saga. >>
This doesn't end the saga.

You yourself said you were hosed. That was your word, not mine. Being hosed implies something wrong was done, unless you mean some kind of a sexual act or something, but that's your business.
And who mentioned you stole anything? Maybe you should calm down a bit Dr. Cooper.

What sort of claim?
<< <i>Agree with most here, had a similar situation myself and was blasted a few years ago. >>
Bragging? Crying? Sigh.

People's Court
I'd have expected nothing less.

I realize the Cooper comment was a joke. I do have a sense of humor. But you suggested that I was to blame for you getting hosed. I was responsible and paid the price that the auction stated and didn't leave a NEGATIVE. I didn't agree with it but the seller did what he said. Again, I (and you) assumed that he would combine shipping. We were both wrong. I have accepted that. You haven't!!! Instead, you still want to blame the seller and you blame me. You are the one that needs a reality check.
You are upset because the seller will not change the terms of their auction AFTER the fact regardless of how you decide to spin it.
and file a claim if he sends in 1 envelope.
Geez, now I know why 99% of ebayers don't maximize profits.
They have ethics.
"Feedback should only include categories and comments related to how the transaction went AFTER it was purchased - not related to the stated and agreed upon charges at the time the card was purchased"........Absolutely correct!
Ebay 101
Shipping is listed at $3.50. There's nothing in the item description about combined shipping policy. So if the seller's policy on this is important to you then you click on See All Details for additional info, and if there's nothing in there then you contact the seller before bidding to find out his policy. The OP said he did go looking but somehow missed the large caps stating his policy.
Seller's payment instructions
SORRY, NO COMBINED SHIPPING
So instead of contacting the seller to find out what the deal is he just bid away not knowing how the seller will handle multiple purchases.

Didn't know that would happen! You're an easy read.
I guess that's it. Happy Holidays!
The more stubborn and belligerent people are, after receiving advice they don't want to hear, the higher the post count. The post count in these cases are inversely proportional to the OP's ability to admit they're wrong.
No matter how many have tried to explain it to you you just refuse to listen to reason.

"Will usually ship within 10 business days of receiving cleared payment"
lol. I wonder how long it takes the other times? 20 days?
Now you are changing the reason why you will neg this guy, earlier it was because
he didn't say 'NO COMBINED SHIPPING' in the proper place, when showed he had in fact did
you change your reasoning, claiming he is not being honest. I'm not sure why you feel so strongly
regarding this, yes the guy is a DB for not combining shipping, yet at the same time it was clearly
listed that he didn't. Why all the stress? Over what amounts to 3 cups of coffee?
Man up!
