This is one hell of a tough set to work on as the quality control was weak on this set as you all know, However my goal is to finish it to finish it although some of cards will be hard to find. My grades ranged from 5 to 8 as I did not want qualifiers for all but 5 often cards.Only one card came back not graded Joe Lahould.
    Will post results soon.

Good luck, Tony! The 75 mini set is indeed a tough one but one that is a lot of fun to work on. The Lahoud is from the edge of the sheet and often found short out of the pack along with the other green/yellow cards and was likely not graded because for that reason.

A really nice 8 is often as nice as a run of the mill 9 and I've often passed on 9s because of that. I did pick up a couple really nice, tough 9s recently, though, including #326 Twtichell and #460 NL Championships from Carlos's (carkim) set break.

Hi Tony, yes, the Mini's are super tough. One just has to be patient with them. Congrats on the sub - there are some nice 7's and 8's in there. And I'll bet those 5 and 6's look nice as well, but just have some technical issues that dropped them down a few notches (i.e., spider wrinkles, stray ink).

I sold my graded set this past Spring (all cards graded PSA 8 or greater) with the exception of a handful of cards that I kept for sentimental reasons. I've said to some of the other Mini's collectors on here that if I ever built this set in graded form again, I would build it based on eye appeal (mine) and low price without regard to the technical grade (within reason). None of the grades in your sub would bother me, and assuming they looked good to me, I would put them in my set and be happy. Of course, everybody is different, and I respect that.

Again, congrats. And happy Mini collecting to you!

I fully agree with you.I received my cards yesterday and a few of the 5 and 6 really surprised me as I though some were as nice as the 7 and 8s.Oh well I am not going to complain the cards are still very appealing.
I am not out to impress any but myself, that’s the fun of it.

    Best Regards

I'd been looking for a nice PSA 9 #460 for many years now and was happy to add this one.

So many of these green/yellow and red/yellow cards were cut short at the factory due to them positioned on the edge of the sheet it very difficult to find full-sized examples like this Twitchell #326.

I've been searching well over a decade for a legit Mint 9 Ryan that fills the holder like a mini should. Very pleased to add this one to my set.

That's a sweet Sutherland! Have you been collecting minis for long?

This set will always be my favorite!

Thanks again fopr all the kind words about the Ryan card! One of these days, I will upgrade my Brooks Robinson to a retail version. So many of those are cut just short.

I don't check into this thread as often as I should. Wow and major congrats on the Ryan 9 and seeing any 10 from this set! I dabble occasionally on filling my raw mid-grade set and the cuts have been atrociously inconsistent, not to mention all the other printing flaws. Chasing this set in high grade has to be a true labor of love. Both cards appear to check the 'fill the holder' box quite well too ;)

  • JRR300JRR300 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭✭

This set is about as frustrating as they come to fill in close to high grade. was lucky enough to find someone who had opened a few boxes years ago and had the cards just lying in a storage box. even freshly opened, the miscuts, print flaws and OC issues were frustrating as all hell. Completed my raw set and was still chasing upgrades when I finally said enough.

You are so right. I am now 80% done with mine and it’s been a real tough job.I have gone through hundreds of minis since 1975 before I decided to have the set graded. It is a very slow process because certain cards are short cut and very difficult to find in the right size.As far as the
fish eyes I got a Psa 9 with 3 of them on the card.Looking over the same card all of this particular card is the same, GO FIGURE. I just submitted 129 cards to Psa and with a little luck I might be able to complete it or be close. I would like to reach a final grade of near 8 if my current sub comes back with just 8s and 9s.

Maybe it's me, but the production issues on this set seem to be greater than other Topps issues of this time. Maybe they only printed this set after multiple adult beverages had been consumed!

Maybe it's me, but the production issues on this set seem to be greater than other Topps issues of this time. Maybe they only printed this set after multiple adult beverages had been consumed!

This set is strictly a night mare.I am sorry I started this set. I should be close to be done soon however the final results will be disappointing to me until I do some upgrading however it seems like every card that I so far received lower than a 7 and sent in a another of the same card comes back with the same grade. Cards are not consistently graded.
Received a Card with 3 fish eyes and it came back a 9.No fricken way.

you'd better have a lot of patience to complete that set! I just couldn't take it anymore. Maybe I'll go back to it after a while and try to accumulate a few more before frustration sets in again.

HURRAY!!!!!!!! After a long search, :) and hard work I finally finished my 75 mini set. It was a challenge I thought I was never going to finish. So many cards were very hard to find and had to settle for some 5 and 6 psa however I do plan to upgrade in the future on these few cards to 8s
MY set is 24th rank 7.541. MR WONDERFUL. :)

Congrats on finishing. That is no easy task with the minis.

Congrats! I have found that selectively upgrading cards within your set can be just as fun as finishing the set, too! It's all in the pursuit!

Congrats. I started this set and got frustrated quickly. I bought some raw cards from a guy who had opened a few boxes and put them away. Got some real nice cards, but overall, the centering isn't good, either top to bottom or side to side. Lots of print marks too. The corners are sharp but that was it. I'll probably come back to it later.

Nice addition. The card fills the holder which is always a big bonus imo.

Hello fellow 75 Mini collectors, I hope you and yours are safe and well. Just posting that I will be breaking up a complete set, mostly 8 (nm-mt) or better. My plan is to list half the set on Ebay this Sunday night, and the second half next Sunday. I hope many of the cards go to collectors and help complete sets. Thanks for your time. Take care!

    Does this look grade-able ?

need a better pix, centering looks ok, but can't see the corners at all. also not sharp enough to see printing

Based on what I can see (i.e., assuming no card back issues of any kind or card front surface issues):

Jenkins, Perez, Evans, and 1962 MVP's would likely grade 7 (centering is the bottleneck)

Sutton likely 7 (stray ink and if not scratch by right ear)

Robinson and Niekro likely 8 (but 7 on bad day due to centering)

1967 MVP's 9 (if no other unseen issues)

I would agree. You can't really see the corners or the backs. There are spots which may just be from the camera or lens you used, but can't really tell. Centering always an issue with this mini set.
