Cal Ripken signed book $10 on B&N

Found this on another site and thought I would share with all of you. Cal Ripken is putting out a kids story about baseball. Barnes and Nobel has the autographed edition for $9.17. One person said they called B&N and they confirmed it is autographed by Cal. That's a steal for a Cal autograph.
And even if it turns out to not be signed, your only out $10 or so. I took the chance and ordered one and thought others may want to take that $10 risk also.

I like iGive.com better than MrRebates. I don't have to give any of my personal information and I have the rebates donated directly to animal rescue.
There's also an option to have the rebate check mailed to yourself, but I guess if you're going to do that, MrRebates is probably easier.
In for 2 signed Ripken books and South Park Season 13 DVD.
And yes, it's a great way to get a Cal auto.
All and all, auto'ed books are not popular with non-book auto collectors IMO - so one can usually pick them up at a more reasonable price. Good example - Russell auto'ed books are way cheaper than a pic or a ball.
I have an auto'ed version of "The Mick" - also PSA/DNA'ed - and it went for way less than a ball - I paid either 125 or 150$
Currently collecting 1934 Butterfinger, 1969 Nabisco, 1991 Topps Desert Shield (in PSA 9 or 10), and 1990 Donruss Learning Series (in PSA 10).
Looking for 1970 MLB Photostamps

I did the same -- 3 for free shipping -- and will give two as gifts
EDITED -- I ordered my 3 last night.
My collecting blog: http://ctcard.wordpress.com
First, I was on-line and trying to order when I realized I should put in my B&N membership number, which I did not have. So I called customer service to get the number and complete my order. Originally, I was going to get 3 copies in order to get free shipping. This is around 10:10 am est. I get the number and the service person says that I would get free shipping regardless. I went to change the order to 2 books (one for my boys to use and one to put away) and the amount changed to the $16.99. So I try the link and refresh, etc. - still $16.99. After a minute, I get manager approval to the $9.17 price.
I recheck the thread and nendee indicates they are sold out. I ask, "Is this now sold out?"
He checks and it appears that there are no more in their allotment. I ask if that means he signs a set amount and that's it or do they complete the orders and he signs that many books so that at some point in the future the orders are fulfilled. He believes it is the former as he cannot even place the order. Furhter, he indicated that it had "sold out" at something like 4:15 am est.
I hope everyone that ordered gets their books.
I, unfortunately, am shut out.
Still waiting for Mullins to provide full story on the Sawchuk Bee Hive, but the thread seems dead.

I once again called B&N once I saw the last few posts.
All I can say is good luck and I hope you like the book.
The woman I spoke with confirmed my previous conversation with a male representative this morning. While they are still pre-selling the book, the autographed copies are gone.
I let her know that they should get that info up on the web-site.
For nendee, reljac and nascar, I would like to know, come 3/15, whether you receive signed books. That way I'll know whether I should smile smugly or beat my head against the wall.
<< <i>Will see what happens but the description in my order states autographed? If they are not autographed, I expect them to cancel the order. Either way I win and worth the shot. If not then I will try to get one when he does his book tour. I expect him to come to Charlotte since he played here. >>
I'll try to get the book tour dates and post them; I would imagine Charlotte would be on the list of cities visited

There's not much to lose. My order states 'Autographed Edition'. They have to seperate book IDs based on the one you order, so they won't be sending you an unautographed one that sells for less money. They could always cancel the order. I took advantage of the offer as well to order two books for my kids, so even if they cancel my Hothead order, I got my kids books with Free Shipping!
HotHead Link to both books
I had a thought - I sure hope they don't "Autopen" these suckers.
I went out for a bagel with my son and we were talking about it....
and if they do the autopen thing - it will hit these boards in March like a Lion!!!! And, there will be a mass return - so I'm thinkin Ripken would know better than to have that happen.

First thing that came to my mind as well.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>I bought 3 at 28 bucks and free shipping. >>
Mike ... I did the same thing. I hope he signs on the inside page. I'd like to use two of them to get some nice customs made.

<< <i>Just ordered my 2 books, Receipt says Autographed Edition. Just thinking, what if it is Kevin Cowherd signing the books and not Ripken >>
That's a good one and misleading fer sure.
If that one happened? Fine.
They get the books back and I buy one on the buck table at B & N in a few months.

<< <i>I just received an email from Barnes & Noble stating that my order is ready to ship and will be shipped on March 1, 2011. Now it''s time to wait and see. >>
I received the same message. If IMF thinks it's legit, I'm sold.
