I'll probably donate one of my books to my son.
  • I ordered one book and it is going on my son's bookshelf. Not that it really matters what each person does with their book.

Would it be horrible of me to take Cal's signature and have Doran make a cut auto for me? I'd really like that and for $10 I thought it was a steal.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
I think that would be a great idea. Much more interesting than a signed book, and the rest of the book is still in tact and useful. Can't beat that price too.

    Thanks Doug:

Here is the entire signing schedule thus far.....Cal told me Friday evening that this book ("Hot Head") is the first of three in a series and depending on how these books sell will determine if there will be more in the future:

    March 1 NY ( B&N – Columbus Circle )

March 6 Orlando – ESPN Disney

March 9 Philly (Children’s Book World – 17 Station Road, Haverford, PA)

    March 10 Ripken Stadium

    March 14 DC ( Politics & Prose – 5015 Conn. Ave. NW DC )

Hope as many of you can make it to one of these as possible.

I just saw the above post last evening and thought it was odd that a co-author would be doing book signings, especially when a personality such as Cal Ripken Jr. was the headlining author. I did a Google search and could not find anything on ANY Cowherd book signings (let alone "all over" as Craigger described). Knowing that I may not be the best at "googling," I decided the next best thing would be to contact Cowherd himself at The Baltimore Sun and ask him for his "book signing schedule." (BTW, the book was only released to the public on March 1st)

    His response:

"Bill, I'll be doing a signing with Cal at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen at 7 p.m. March 10. Hope you can make it.
    Thanks,
    Kevin"

Craigger, please show the board the listings you found for Cowherd signing "all over."

I'm tempted to pile on and say the co-author / ghostwriter usually isn't the one to do the book signings or be the one autographing the books.

I'm sure for the guy who cancelled his order, these books won't be that hard to find [autographed], just FYI.

I found one of Ripken Jr.'s 'older' instructional books for $6 at a discount book store at an outlet mall once - it was autographed in blue Sharpie inside.

I think most will agree with you that you will be able to find these books later on ... but NOT at the $9.00 price.

Got some information from the Philly signing last night from my cousin. She braved the winds and 40 degree weather while standing in line for 2 hours. Cal did not personalize any books. He did take pictures with the kids. He stayed and signed books for everyone but I would expect that from Cal being the class act he is.

He doesn't personalize at these type events just because they need to keep the lines moving .........(not to mention that he takes the time to take pictures with everyone who wishes one)

Could you please confirm if the book (offered at Barnes & Noble - link below) is signed by you or Cal Ripken Jr.? The description on the website did not make it clear. I am very excited to read the book. If you would be so kind to reply, it would be greatly appreciated.

what about your statement about Cowherd signing the books "all over "(google search)? Why throw such a BS statement out to a group of good guys?

  • Went to signing at Ripken Stadium, 1st in line, Stood there for 2 hrs with my 2 daughters. Ripken signed and Kevin Cowherd signed at another table if you wanted him, too. Had books signed by him also. Great guys, Ripken would sign for about 10 people, stop, get down and take a photo with you, and go back and sign for another group of 10. He even chatted with you. And now a new message this morning (Monday) stating another 30 day "delay"? Why do I get the feeling a dealer has intercepted these before Barnes and Noble received them?
  • SheamasterSheamaster Posts: 542 ✭✭✭
Just got the "30 day delay" as well - make sure you go into your order and select "I still want this" within like 24 hours; otherwise, your order will cancel. Seems like a shady way to handle this. Maybe they shouldn't sell items they don't have.
  • alifaxwa2alifaxwa2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭
My guess is there were probably way too many orders placed and there trying to thin out the list by hoping many orders will be cancelled by people not checking there email enough.

Well, corporations are made up of people, not robots. I'm never surprised that they act just like people.

Quite the great scam they are running though on the opt-in. I wonder how many people may not even SEE the email before the 24 hour window closes.
