Can anyone tell me what the weight range would need to be of the "starred reverse"? Also, is it different from the normal 1794 Large Cents?
By the way I did a drop test of the 3 1794 coins I have... all three sounded sililar to one another... (which I know still doesn't say the one that shows at beginning of this thread is a real one... but had someone ask me to try it... :-) Again Thanks for the help all...

Don't know about a range of weight but CoinFacts says 13.48 grams, 28mm dia., the same as other 1794 large cents.
Have you submitted it yet? Can you tell we're a little anxious? Lance.
Hi everyone... again thanks for the kind words & posts... nice to see people so nice & friendly... :-)
Just wanted to let you know the coin was just sent out to PCGS today... should be there early next week... Had alot of people asking me to let them know when it went in... so now it is up to them. I am having alot of people/experts who have been in touch with me showing interest... so far all of the ones who seen the pic's believe it to be a good one... I still don't want to get too excited till I know for sure... thats it for now...

Weight and planchet thickness can vary greatly among 1794 cents. Perhaps someone who has handled a lot of them can give you an idea if they are all approximately he same...oh wait, there probably isn't anyone who has handled a lot of them. --Jerry
Would like members thoughts regarding the slabbing of the 1794 Lg Cent Starred Rev at beginning of this thread...
If PCGS determines the coin is genuine... will they grade & slab the coin even though the coin has the planchet flaw on both sides? Will they just tell me the coin is damaged & refuse to grade it?
========================================================================== crypto79... Update: I sent the coin in over a week ago by registered & insured mail. I just got a tracking message saying that PCGS just got the coin... Paul G Sr Staff Writer from Coin World just told me he spoke to Pete Smith at the Boston ANA show & he saw the pictures of the coin & is convinced the coin is genuine... another expert on these type coins said that if it isn't real it has to be the best counterfeit coin ever... this is all for now...
Thanks in adv for your input... shasta7

You'll absolutely need to have it professionally authenicated. PCGS would be the choice IMO to slab as a genuine (no grade) coin. I also suggest that you consider having Bob Grellman (catalogs/grades Goldberg copper sales as McCawley-Grellman auctions) provide a sharpness and net grade the coin. Grellman grades are generally accepted at face value and carry importance for copper enthusiasts. Grellman should be able to give you an approximate sharpness and net grade from which to reasonalbly assign a value the coin.

Even if PCGS doesn't grade your coin, it's worth the fees just to get it into a genuine holder. Even with major problems, a coin like this still has a very high value.

Lee, there was no reason given & I was NOT told as to why it was coded 98... maybe once I have the coin back there will be an explanation... (I said maybe... lol)
I was told from a person who is very familar with these type coins that it didn't surprise him that PCGS said that. He thought from looking at the pictures that the planchet was flawed prior to being struck... he also said this kind of variety is well known to have bad planchets & the die was bad from the start... reason there are NOT many High Grade coins left... these coins were weakly struck & almost all had bad reverses... I keep getting people asking how many stars that are on the coin... as most coins like this don't have many. On this coin there are 30-40+ stars that show...
He thinks along with a few other experts that even with the planchet flaw that the coin is one of the better ones remaining. As far as a grade... some gave me their opinions & it really surprised me in a good way... maybe others here can chime in with their thoughts - should be interesting what others have to say. Those experienced with early coppers told me that the flaw makes this coin unique & a more interesting coin to collectors of early coppers... none of them can believe how nice the obv is.
