Unfortunately, I got busy and didn't make it out to the dog fest I"ll have to catch up next time though!!!
Rangers just wrapped up another victory over the A's and another series win. Now have an 8.5 game lead over A's and 9 games over Angels. They have a chance to put a serious hurt on the Angels chances this weekend with a series in Anaheim. If they don't have the killer instinct in them, now would be a good time to get it. Upcoming series are against Angels, Mariners, and A's again. A chance to distance themselves if they stay hot.
Rangers traded today for Jorge Cantu in an attempt to help at one of our weak spots, 1B. At least the GM is giving them the best shot he can. Go Jon Daniels!!
The fun continues, Rich Harden came back from the DL tonight and pitched 7 strong innings. Scattered 5 hits, and Vladimir Guerrero continued to punish his old team with a two run homer. Guzman played his first game as a Ranger and made a couple nice plays on defense. New Ranger Cantu got one of the Rangers 5 hits. Rangers win 2-1. Lead is back up to 8.5 against A's and 9.0 against Angels. What started out as a poor July, turned around nicely. Rangers are at their high water mark of 18 games over .500. 2 months and a few days to go to hang on.
I'm hoping he's turned the corner again, he's at least getting clutch hits, he has 9 rbi's in the last 6 games, the rest of the ENTIRE team only has 12 rbi's in those 6 games.

Did you see Vlad get a potential home run taken away from him the other night? Seattle kid made a nice catch up over the wall to take away a homer. I was bummed, but the team has done well the past 3 games. The bats have woken up again. They even scored runs for Cliff Lee tonight!!! They are at their current high water mark of the season 19 games over .500 and now have a 9.5 game lead over A's and 10 game lead over Angels. I probably shouldn't say it as it might come back to bite me, but I think the proverbial "fat lady" is getting tuned up for a song. If they can get by the next couple weeks in relatively the same position, then she'll be ready to bellow. 2 more against the A's, and then the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays all in succession. I'll be satisfied to see them go 5-5 over the next ten game stretch.
Yes it was!! After giving up a 6 run lead Wednesday night and failing to sweep the Yankees, a much needed win. Rangers came back from a 6 run deficit to beat the Red Sox. An infield single for Vlad, where he dove into first base headfirst, scored Josh Hamilton from 2nd base (yes, on an infield single) to tie the game in the 8th. A one pitch loss for Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, as he served up a meat pitch to Nellie Cruz in the 11th inning. That guy has been horrible against the Rangers for a while now. This year, in 8 innings, he has given up 16 hits and I think 13 runs against the Rangers. They should of just brought in a position player to pitch instead of him. Darren O'Day picked up the win after his 29th consecutive scoreless appearance. Dude hasn't given up a run since June 1st!!!!
Lead is now 8.5 against Angels and 9.0 against A's. Magic number is 39 against Angels and 40 against A's.
Rangers wrapped up the weekend by downing the Red Sox. Lead is now 8.5 against Angels and 10.0 against Oakland. Because they have the same # of losses, the magic number against both teams is now 37. Rangers have a tough series in Tampa Bay next and possibly a playoff preview. As usual, Cliff Lee will square off against their ace. If the series against the Yankees, and the Red Sox is any indication, it should be a very fun series to watch. Ryan and Greenberg officially own the team now and they've already been more fan friendly then Hicks (which isn't hard to do). They've lowered the price of several concessions, hats, shirts, and parking. Greenberg was even walking the ballpark today and visiting with fans in various sections. So nice to have a change in ownership and especially one that's getting off to a good start with the fans. Those of you that have fan friendly ownership don't necessarily understand what a difference that makes in the fan experience for those of us that don't or didn't have that. I dropped my season tickets years ago when Hicks came along and began to alienate the fans, so mayble next year I'll have to buy a package again. Every year, they call me and try to get me to get back on board, but every year since, I've told them "no", that I didn't like the direction of ownership. The fun is back at Rangers Ballpark and it's great to see.
Rough week so far. The Rays took the broom to the Rangers and swept them right out of Florida. They must have swept their fans out long ago as well as their attendance was horrible. Rangers have a few regulars out with ailments of varying degrees so I'm not worried in the least by the Rays sweep. Some total ineptitude by some of the backups contributed heavily to the defeats. As long as Young, Kinsler, Cruz are all back by the playoffs we'll be alright. Despite being swept, Rangers only lost a half game total to the Angels in the standings. An 8 game lead and magic number now down to 35 against Angels and 36 against A's.
<< <i>yr boys gotta figure out how to beat them Birds!!!! Lee looked weak last night!!! >>
Yeah, I'm glad to get that series over with. Thankfully the Rangers don't have to worry about playing Baltimore in the playoffs, they've had the Rangers number. Lead is back up to 8 games over the A's and Angels each, with magic numbers of 31 and 32 respectively. Vlad, even though his power numbers have been off, has an 11 game hitting streak I think. He also had a homer (his 1st of August) and double today, so hopefully he's breaking out of his so called "slump". The 1st place Twins are coming to town starting tomorrow. I've got tickets Wednesday night, and will probably go Thursday night as well to see Lee pitch then.
Sure will help to get Kinsler and Cruz back in due time, but due to the mediocrity of the A's and Angels, the Rangers still have a nice lead.
Very nice game tonight. A one hit (with one out in the ninth) shutout against the first place Minnesota Twins. 4-0. Picked up another 1/2 game on A's and Angels are currently losing as well. That's 3 wins out of the last 4 so maybe the Rangers are back on the right track after last week's debacle of a road trip.
On paper the Rangers aren't any better then last year. On august 23, 2009 The Rangers were 69 and 54 and trailing the division leading Angels by 5 games
On August 23, 2010, the Rangers are 70 and 54 and leading the division by 9 games.

That's a good point, but fortunately, the games aren't played on paper. IMO the current Rangers are better equipped if they do make the playoffs to be able to compete in 5 and 7 game series. As long as they come out on top of the division during the regular season, it wouldn't matter to me if their record was 75 wins 87 losses, as long as the rest of the division was at least one game back.
Wow, what a night tonite. Maven (my 6 year old daughter) wanted to go to "Autograph Wednesday" which is a promotion that the Rangers run on Wednesday home games where 3 players and a coach sign about 125 autographs each on the concourse about an hour before the game. It's the first one we've ever been to together, and I, myself, haven't been in probably 10 years. Board members Jlzinck (Jon), HeritageAddict (Doran), and Drewsef (Drew) had sent her some Rangers cards and stickers and she took them all in a little ziploc bag hoping to get them signed. I picked her up from school and we went home and got ready for the game and timed it where we'd arrive at about 4:50 as the gates open at 5:00 PM. We got there and waited outside in the heat, but were told by one of the ticket takers that Ian Kinsler was going to be one of the players signing and they told us which station Kinsler would be at. When the gates opened, Maven and I made a quick trip to get in line for Kinsler as autographs are limited. By the time her little short legs could carry her (we had to go completely to the other side of the park and as soon as the gates opened fans were running and jockeying for positions at each one of the stations) we were already about 100 back in the Kinsler line. I was afraid we weren't going to get it. She went through her ziploc bag, putting great thought into what Kinsler card or sticker she wanted signed. She finally settled on a Kinsler bat card and we waited in hopes of getting a graph. Sure enough, Kinsler started signing and Maven told me her lungs were about to burst as she was so excited. That was awesome to hear and I told her it looked like we were going to make it as they passed out a limited number of autograph tickets through the line and we were fortunate enough to get one each. We got up to him and he was really cool to her and talked to her a bit and signed her card and made her nite. Ian also signed my Rangers mini-helmet I've been working on (now has Vlad, Andrus, Nelson Cruz, Neftali Feliz and Kinsler).
After that, it was still about an hour before the game so we made it to our seats and my 42 lb. skinny girl begin packing down the food. Throughout the wait, until the time we left in the 6th inning (she was exhausted from the heat and it was past her usual bed time), we had hot dogs, lemon chills, cheese fries, peanuts, Cokes and waters. She was smiling all nite until she got tired. We got home in time to watch the ninth inning on TV and got to see the Rangers wrap up their 3rd straight victory over the AL Central 1st place team, Twins. That puts the Rangers in the current position of home field advantage for the first round of playoffs. Still a long way to go for that, but I'd rather be up a half game in that position now, as opposed to behind a half game!!!
4 wins in a row and apparently back on track. Way to go Rangers!!!!
Rangers have a chance this weekend to put a severe hurt into Oakland's already slim chances if they can take care of business against the A's. Sweet game one win tonight. Another W for Tommy Hunter. Magic number now down to 26 against A's and 25 against Angels. I sure would like to see Boston somehow come back and catch the Rays. I'd much rather the Rangers play Boston in the playoffs then either the Yankees or Rays first round. Go Red Sox!!!
First double digit lead of the year (10 games) and only 1/2 game away from the largest lead in franchise history (I think). Magic number is quickly declining now. 20 against A's, 19 against Angels. Will be interesting to see if manager Ron Washington will rest the big guys more and more, or if he'll keep the full lineup in order to try and get home field advantage slot in 1st round of playoffs. Big series against Twins this weekend.
Went to the Rangers game this afternoon, in Toronto (I'm 4 1/2 hours away). Texas got bombed by the top HR hitting team in baseball, and have now lost 4 straight.
Had a great time though, saw AT LEAST two dozen Vlad jerseys. And Big Bad Vlad went 3/4 with two doubles and a run (from a wiley veteran base running move when he was looked back to second on a infield grounder but took off to third when the throw went to first).
I got two row 2 seats 3/4 way down first base for $60 each (below face) from a scalper, so the seats were amazing.
Interesting events:
1) a foul ball behind home plate hit off a Jackie Robinson metal sign above the second deck know a 'o' off, and causing it to fall on a guys shoulder below, paramedics were needed.
2) Andy Hawkins the Rangers Bullpen Coach wins DBOTW when he and a dozen pitchers were warming up, he missed the ball and it went into the crowd, a 6 year old (about) boy catches it and gets excited, showing his dad. What does Hawkins say? "Calm down and give me the ball back", there was a bag of balls 10 feet away from him, way to make the kid feel special. It was one of those "moments" pro athletes sometimes have, except this was a Coach.
I saw that "B" fall. Did you see the big nail sticking out of it? The stadium staff confiscated the "B" back. The fan should have been allowed to keep that as well(after they removed the nail of course), as well as the errant ball you mentioned from Hawkins. Yep, 4 big "L's" in a row, and Hamilton, Lee, and Andrus all out with injuries. Oakland keeps winning as well, but in the end they will come up short. Just need to get all the starters going again about a week and a half before the playoffs and get them back in stride. Rangers haven't had a full lineup of regulars in probably over a month so hopefully they'll get healthy before the playoffs start, and the important games kick in. Once all the guys are back, they can compete with anyone.
Cliff Lee appears to have gotten his game together again. 8 strong innings tonight and picked up the W. Magic number down to 6 now.
I got my ALDS tickets today so I'm ready to roll. Looks like the Rangers should clinch on the road this week. I sure did want to be there in person for the clinching game in Arlington, but I'll take it. Rangers play both LAA and OAK this week so maybe they can at least personally knock out each team on their own field, and pop the corks on champagne on the A's field.
Saw this today. If true, that should give the Rangers money to be players in the free agent market for years to come. All of a sudden, the future doesn't look so bleak.
Texas Rangers to receive $3 billion in new 20-year TV deal
The Rangers, who clinched their first division title in 11 years over the weekend, just might start making this an annual routine considering their giant financial windfall.
The Rangers, cash-strapped for years with owner Tom Hicks, have signed a 20-year extension with Fox Sports Southwest that will guarantee them $3 billion, according to three high-ranking baseball officials, two of whom have seen the contract. All spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the deal.
It is the highest TV package for a team that doesn't own its own channel. And yes, that's $150 million a year before even playing a game, plenty enough to re-sign ace Cliff Lee, bring in free-agent outfielder Carl Crawford, or whoever else they wish.
In comparison, the Dodgers make about $45 million a year off their TV deal with Fox.
The deal was completed just after the Rangers were sold to Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan's group in August, according to three officials. Greenberg smiled, but declined comment, when asked about the specifics of the deal.
"I think this franchise is in pretty good shape,'' says Michael Young, who's about to experience the first postseason of his career.
What an ending to today's game. I don't recall seeing this before and I've watched a lot of baseball. Rangers were losing 5 to 1, came back in 8th to tie it. In 9th, they have runner on first, 2 outs, and Nellie Cruz batting. He swings at a pitch in dirt for strike 3, gets away from catcher, he runs toward first, catcher throws to first and Justin Smoak (the 1st baseman that the Rangers traded for Cliff Lee) had moved way off the base to avoid being run over by Nellie, ball goes into right field, Ichiro makes errant throw to the plate, and the winning run scored, all the way from first.
So, I'd probably hold out for round 2 in NYC? Unless, Philly looks like they'll take Rd 2 and Texas as well, then maybe hold off for the big dance? Maybe Vlad's only shot, would be worth it.

I've got my tickets for all the home games in the ALDS, and for home game 1 and 2 of the ALCS. I'll be in a play (Fidldler on the Roof) during the other ALCS home games so I won't be able to go to those, props for TIVO. I'll have to resist the urge to check for updates on my phone backstage so I can enjoy the games at home after the play. If Rangers make the Series, I'll go to those home games as well, and might road trip for the Series. I'll just have to see.
Vlad, come on down to Texas for some games and dinner will be on me .
That would be great Mike, someday I hope to visit Lubbuck as well. I just checked a few flights and here to Dallas is $850 per person return, ouch! How about I buy you dinner in Philly instead! I'm a big guy but the extra muscle wouldn't hurt with those fans.
I'm guessing talking about gambling is not permitted (specific lines etc..), so speaking in general...
How the heck are the Rangers the underdogs for a World Series run. Looking at more than one source every other team has a better 'chance' of winning the World Series. This blows me away, time for some upsets boys!
What a LONG morning. I took off work today to watch the game, and it seems like it's never going to get here. Still another hour. I should have went in and just left early and it would have went by a lot faster.
Game 1 to the Rangers. Big contributions from mid season pickups Lee, Francoeur, and Molina. Vlad and Nellie added a couple big hits as well. 22 year old rookie closer Neftali Feliz wrapped it up.
