<< <i>who is this mr. paseo guy?? The flea market guy sells coins and currency at the flea market. He has 2 coins books and numerous coin magazines in front of him on his table and offered the coins to me at the stated prices........what did I do wrong???? >>
Please excuse my bad humor, I was joking, you did nothing wrong as a matter of fact, I wish I could land in the same situation.
In basic training I adopted this close to my heart, I live these words from my first day of service:
The first line of the code of conduct:
<< <i>I am an American fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense. >>
Upon completion of Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, I adopted a new Creed.
The Soldiers Creed
<< <i>I am an American Soldier, I am a warrior and a member of a team, I serve the people of the united states and live the Army values. I will allways place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, I will never leave a fallen comrade. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, Trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drill. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself. I am an expert and I am a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. I am an American Soldier. >>
Upon my induction into the Corps of the Non-Commissioned Officer I adopted the following:
The Creed of the Non-Commissioned Officer
<< <i>No one is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as "The Backbone of the Army". I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the Military Service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.
Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind -- accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.
Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders! >>
I don't see anything close to wrong or immoral about what Norseman did in buying the silver dimes from the dealer's box of silver dimes, for what the dealer was asking. As many have pointed out, the dealer had the items priced according to his wishes, and Norseman bought them. How he stacked them should not bear any relevance, nor can we assume or infer any immoral activity from it.
Mkman, on the other hand, should be strongly ostracized for (repeatedly) ripping that poor flea market dealer...LOL...

Yeah, no. That's theft. You pocket a card from the floor of a Hallmark store, that's theft. You pocket a can of beans from the floor of the supermarket, that's theft. You pick up a coin from the floor of a coin shop? If you're not talking a zinc cent, that's theft.
Ooops. The dealer dropped these coins on the counter instead of in his safe where they belong. Guess he doesn't want them...

<< <i>"With this logic, everyone that cherry picks is a thief... Hmmmm, something to think about."
No. The seller knows what coin he is selling (but may not realize current market values on it). No theft.
Exactly my point, if the current market value is known by the buyer, and the seller does not. The transaction is complete with the dealer losing possible profit, does not make it theft by deception since the buyer KNEW for a fact that the coin was worth more?
"2. Did the buyer feel like he was doing something wrong? If he does, in my opinion he was doing something unethical."

I agree.

I guess I don't appreciate being called a thief for doing the same thing that others have done and been congratulated for but you are right and I'll let it go.
I don't see any problem with stacking coins one way or the other, since they all came from the same box. I wouldn't want to give the dealer a chance to change his mind if I thought I was getting a real deal. The box is there to sell the coins that are inside it, period.
And mkman is having fun, using his somewhat specialized knowledge - knowledge that every other person attending the flea market is free to acquire and use to their own advantage if they had the inclination to do so. Who questions the source of anything at a flea market? The 90% coins are no different than the valuable picture frame that nobody else recognizes except for the specialist.
Good Job, mkman!

Nice p/u, Mike.. I see he is slowly raising his X's face value.. I hope you hit the jackpot one day..
If he is selling Morgans for as much over melt as he is, he knows what he has.. Maybe HE is the one ripping off the people HE is buying from. It's still a free market society.. If he wants more all he has to do is raise is price..
The dealer might lose Mike as a buyer but there will always be another buyer walking by..
Hey mkman123 I just got back from a local auction and picked up a full roll of war nickels for $10.00 and a Roosevelt dime book with 39 silver dimes for $12.50
I'm in no competition with anyone, just trying to stack with limited funds. I'm not a baller like some of the folks here and never look down on anyone no matter the size of their stack (refer back to the thread of the guy who asked if 300 oz is a lot).
I'll let you know what I find next week, maybe I will get some stuff that can top you lol

Well, deals are not as often but still show up as long as I'm patient!!
3 weeks ago I bought a beautiful barber quarter for 60 at the flea market. It was Auish to low buish. Got it because I don't have any nice barber quarters except junk silver ones which are worn. Took the chance and bought it because I liked it and to date is the most expensive coin I have bought. The next day I showed it to a local collector and he convinced me to sell it to him! I sold the barber quarter for 80 bucks and got about 1 FV 90%. The coin collector showed me the price guide and its value so it was a good deal for me. Glad to have gotten my money back plus a little extra and some silver!
Then two weeks ago I bought 6 rolls of 90% mercs for 45 a roll!!!! WOOHOO! Sold enough to make back what I paid for them AND keep 6+ FV for free!!!!
Didn't get anything for Christmas but found myself a present at the flea market today! I got:

Correct, the average person has no idea what the true value of silver is or even what a morgan or peace go for. I have seen people cleaning out their parents homes at a garage sale asking 10 dollars for peace dollars and morgan widgets. Grab them when you find them.
PEACE! This is the first day of the rest of your life.
I've tried the bank closest to me and always got skunked. Well, Friday, I decided to try a bank that was 30 minutes away as they have a change counter. I asked for a box of pennies(to look for wheaties) but they didn't have any. So I tried asking for a box of halves. She said she'd go look. They didn't have any but they did have a bag if I was interested. Told her it was too steep for my blood so I just got several rolls of quarters, dimes, and pennies and left. Nothing. On the way home, I tried some local pawn shops. I rarely go as everything is usually over priced. Turns out that was the case. Oh well, I had fun sorting through the pennies looking for wheats(found a 54-s).
