Nice to see the Yanks right where they should be....right there in 1st place! Teixiera is on FIRE!! Nice to see after that slow start. He's also been INVALUABLE at 1st base with his defense. Is there anyone better defensively at 1st in the AL right now?
tough one today, thought we had enough to finish it, we'll just have to win tomorrow in the finale.
How sick does it make the rest of you guys (gals?) to see Pavano eating us again for the 2nd time this year after doing absolutely nothing for us for multiple seasons and getting all that moola? At least he could give us the courtesy reach around, jeez
Still very nice to still be in first all alone after this weekend, sweet!
It was a tough night for the Joba bullpen supporters. Simply a stellar effort tonight by Joba with one of the best double plays you will ever see a SP start and finish.
The Yankees set a Major League record tonight with 18 straight errorless games
Interesting article in USA Today today about the wind-aided homers to left field -- the new Yankee Stadium is on pace for something like 320 home runs (which would be a new record), not assuming the pace picks up when the weather gets warmer!
Probably helps the Yanks, given they have home run hitters and ground ball pitchers.
tex is a monster, he's hitting the ball like his old tech days, a man amongst boys, and its very nice to see we have someone with the stones to retaliate now, a.j. is just what the doctor ordered.
lonely, i'm mr. lonely, i've got nobody to call my own
where are the rest of the yankee faithful? Not even one comment after that nice Met whippin yesterday? maybe we should invite the recksox nation back in here to liven it up.
Joba has been less than good for at least the past 4 starts. If he throws another crap game tonight, I think its time for him to move back to the BP. I would like to see the Yankees give Hughes another shot starting 4-5 games. He's really been pinpointing that fastball and showing a great curve. I like how Hughes has been attacking batters. If he could just carry that over when he starts a game then I think the rotation would be better AND the BP would be better too. Joba's best work is when his adrenaline is high. He just doesnt seem to have that when he starts.
Another crappy start by Joba combined with some shoddy D to let this one get away. Pettitte has been much better on the road this year so let's hope for a rebound today, then CC can take the series for us tomorrow.
Two things in one week I've never seen from Jeter -arguing with an ump and now the dropped pop-up last night.
Bruney is so bad right now I don't know why Joe G. would uses him in a tight game.
I'm a Yankees fan and I'm embarrassed by how some Yankees fans act like Mets fans. Trash talking and fandom aside, why can't some Yankees fans stop talking out their buttocks and realize that the season is 162 games long and the goal is to reach the playoffs . . . healthy and on a roll.
Hughes and Joba will both be in the pen come the playoffs with the Yankees rolling with a 3 man rotation (Pettitte IF they need a 4th starter).
I still hope the Yankees don't make a play for Halladay. Giving up Hughes would be a tremendous mistake. Hughes just turned 23 years old and sadly, too many Yankees fans are unable to exercise patience as demonstrated with their frustration over Joba in the rotation. If healthy, Joba, Hughes and Coke leading to Rivera is a solid pen behind C.C. and A.J. and as long as the batters remember how to hit with runners on instead of trying to drive everything over the fence, then perhaps the pinstripers will be able to defeat the Sox and/or Angels.
If you're referring to my post above, I guess my tongue-in-cheek attempt at humor with said post was lost on you... sorry to offend a fellow Yankee fan...
eta -and if you have any more evidence of me acting like a Met fan, let's see it - with all the Yankee fans back on the boards tonight in the Jeter post, I was hoping to get this thread active again.
At the risk of sounding "like a Mets fan" - 6 in a row, baby!! Lets hope CC can keep it going tonight - he hasn't been the best vs. Oakland during his career.

As a Yankee fan who sat through some real lean years from 1979-1995 (my whole damn youth) it's tough not to get fired up when things are going good. I'm glad my team is in 1st place. Most of the people that have that whole "the only acceptable result is winning the World Series" thing jumped on the bandwagon around 96..
Lets hope for back to back strong starts out of Joba. If he can just keep his focus (stop worrying so much about guys on base, stop trying to mess around and taking every count from 0-2 to 3-2, etc.) he will be ok. Lets go 8 in a row!
The Yankees are playing the best baseball in the major leagues right now. They currently hold the top spot in the AL East, best record in the AL, and second best record in all MLB. Thank you.
Sergio Mitre looked pretty decent for his second game in the same amount of starts. He's getting the double plays when he needs them most. The one thing I have noticed about Mitre is that he too often allows a man on base with no one out. Too many double plays needed. Either way, right now, he looks like he is locking down the 5th starter spot. If he keeps pitching decent, its fine by me! I dont expect him to have a below 3.50 ERA in the AL East so hopefully the Yankees offense will be able to give him the run support.
Bring on those Rays this week and then bring on those Red Sox in the first week of August! I think its time to turn things around against both those teams!
still waiting for c.c to get it locked in this year, i know it usually takes a year to "get comfortable" in the bronx, but Tex seems to have already planted his roots. hopefully we can pick up the series win tonight, then on to the sox, and then get the red sux later in August
what a lost weekend, sunday helps a little, stinks to go from 3.5 up to .5 up in 3 days, should be interesting starting thursday
Just wanted to give props to Andy Pettitte, we went to see the yanks play the braves a couple of weeks ago, and he was the only guy to come over and sign for the kids, a class act all around, Thanks Andy!
that might be the answer to red sox's problems, but hughes has been lights out as the bridge to Mo lately and joba looks to be getting that closer mentality back for when he is starting. The biggest problem has been A.J. getting lit up and imploding at times, Pettites bad luck, too many outfielders (even with Gardner out and hurting), and Bruney having lost his touch completely, but not switching joba and hughes
Best record in MLB. Atop the east and handling the Red Sox in every facet of the game. Perhaps order is being restored? Only early November will tell, but even a division title when the division is so good would be sweet. All that yapping about the 0-8, and yet here we are...
Its possible that Joba does find his way in the BP because the Yankees have given him an undisclosed amount of innings to pitch this year. I guess they are pretty firm on it. If he gets close, I would expect he becomes the 8th inning man and Hughes takes the starting spot. After that Mitre's second start, its easy to see that he isnt the man for the job.
You are right, Mitre probably isn`t the man for the job. But, I do see a breaking ball that has major movement to go along with the sinker!! He MIGHT be OK.

Now, a healthy Brian Bruney and somebody with the Yankees getting a fooking clue and putting Joba back in the pen could be the great equalizer.
