The Mint's ship notification email notifies you that your order was shipped on xx/xx/xx date. However, what it really means is that your order got a tracking number and does not necessarily mean that UPS has picked it up. Usually, UPS will pick up your order no later than 24 hours from the time your order got a tracking number. This is only a problem if the Mint ships your order on the First Strike deadline.
The UPS box has NO DATE on the shipping label (unlike the good old days of Fedex)............ none whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!! so I don't think that the sealed box will be valid for FS consideration. Again, the paperwork/invoice inside is meaningless as I doubt whether PCGS is going to either run the UPS tracking number (why should they?) or risk getting into a disagreement with the submitter. The only boxes valid after the 3/11 cutoff would be those actually mailed to a PO Box or remailed with a correct official datestamp postmark. Anyone else considered this theory?
Just thinking out loud..................... >>
You're wasting time and money if you remail it to yourself. Having received other gold coins from the new center I can tell you the carton pack slip is dated inside the box.

Weird thing is nothing has been charged to my debit card. I even checked another backup card I use every now and then, but nothing there either. Early on there was a charge pending, but it dropped off like others have posted. I usually see the charge on my account before receiving a shipment email. Your debit card will be charged by midnight tonight.
The date shipped does not necessarily mean UPS picked up your order on that date. Sometimes its the next day. In that case, your debit card will be charged by midnight tomorrow night.

See my responses above and also know that the term "ship date" refers to the physical transfer of your order from the Mint to UPS at the shipping dock.

received my UHR the 3/3/09 order number was 30827xxx looks exactly like a proof put it under the microscope has mirror finished fields, no pits or scratches, a very beautiful coin, I have a lot of Gold Proofs, I will put this UHR with the best I have, beautiful coin mint, of course it took awhile but well worth the wait, don't rush the mint, if they get in a hurry and high production you will see the quality go down. In my opinion this coin would warrant a grade of 70 plus. So I guess the Salvation Army Kettle will get a different Gold coin this Christmas.
my lincoln's arrived before the charge. the charge his at midnight the day after. considering that post a few pages back about someone's "account on hold" and getting "transferred to DC" it seems getting the money is the only thing they do efficiently.
which makes you wonder how could the rest of the ops get so @%#$@!$'ed up. They have contacts in DC!!!

Hey Congratulations! And as much as I admire your goal to donate your UHR, consider rather a charity auction instead. Just a thought, but you may not want the fanfare. I understand that. UPS just dropped mine off. Apparently the mint sent the e-mail last night at 10:09. I didn't see it until now, what a surprise, this morning! The coin is beautiful. No book, but I did get a note about production problems at the mint. Good luck to those still waiting. Number was 30835XXX @ 1:07 1/22/09.
I don't know how or why I've kept track of this list, but I have. It's a list of 14 individuals who at the time of the list had not received their UHR. Yes, all these individuals were plucked from this forum, and they were all plucked by me. In fact, not only am I the plucker, but a pluckee as well. Some were very vocal, some inquired only once. Some are old timers, some are new members. Evidently, through yesterday 03/03/09, the Mint/Pitney has already shipped approximately 20,000 UHRs. If this shipped number is accurate then Pitney only has 9,000 units remaining of the original 29,000 units minted. I have not heard if the Mint has completed any additional mintings above and beyond the original 29,000 units. Given the current extraordinary supply constraints on the Mint's procurement of planchets, it is unlikely any additional mintings have been completed although there may be work in process. These shipped numbers coincide with the Internal PBGS Memo dated 03/03/09 which stated "A large percentage of customer orders will be in the mainstream by week's end." For some us myself included, it is really coming down to the wire, a photofinish if you will.
Historically die polish lines don't factor into the grade, but having said that who knows. Since at least one has graded the lofty 70 they have something for comparison. My concern would be resale value, given the plethora of them that will suddenly be on the market. I can already see a thread starting something along the line of Paypal agreed with the buyer, someone will buy one off of ebay and return it saying it is scratched, over graded or just doesn't buy into die polish lines. No question in my mind those with obvious die polish lines will eventually take a price hit.

I dont think I will even try to send this coin in for First Strike eligibility. I would just be happy to sell my two unopened dated boxes for a smallish premium

Imron, it's pretty early in the year. IMO the mint has plenty of time to cough up some more blanks before it's over. Summer might be dry, but I think it will pick up a bit in the fall, depending of course on gold prices. I wouldn't be shocked if these break over 80,000 before it's all said an done. Of course anything is possible.

Based on the email, I think they have more coins.
"If you place your order for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin on or after February 24 (and up until March 24, 2009), we expect to ship it by May 24, 2009. "
They say they will be able to cover ALL orders, including the month of March, by the end of May.
I think we are lucky they didn't get the full 300,000 planchets they wanted, we would of had an over supply, like the Platinum Anniv. Set.

Yes, you are correct to a certain extent, however I did find out some unsettling information which I may disclose in another thread. Nevertheless, the photofinish I was referring to above is the more immediate first strike deadline. I am concerned that there may be some very disappointed people whose objective was to obtain the first strike, myself included. I have 3 UHRs all in process all of which were order within the first hour of the UHRs release.
Met the UPS guy at my door around 10 CST and I just finished checking the coin out. Now I can understand why the PCGS grades have been in the 70s. One down, 3 to go.

Yes, but see my reply above regarding this same issue. The Mint may just be on their SECOND run. The first run minted 29,000. The second run probably will NOT be completed before first strike but more than likely will be completed by the end of march. After the second week, UHR sales were very slow. So, shipping deadline for second run is basically may 24, big deal!! Half the year is gone and customers who ordered on the first day or two are gonna be screwed.

I just checked my status via the phone-auto status check. It had changed and said "additional credit card chacking is being done for your protection". Oh great. My CC pre-auth fell off today after 4 weeks. What now? So I stayed on the line to talk to a rep. Fortunately, I got one of the few nice ladies. We laughed a bit, she did some pecking around in the system, and then she said "well, it looks like it is shipping today. Would you like the tracking number?" I GOT A TRACKING NUMBER!!!!! I GOT A F&%$IN TRACKING NUMBER!!!!! We laughed and she said she couldn't wait until this was all over. I said, "me, too".

UPDATE
Tomorrow, the Spouse!
SportsModerator1 was wrong? How can this be? That's unpossible. I will have to reassess my world view.

I dont think I will even try to send this coin in for First Strike eligibility. I would just be happy to sell my two unopened dated boxes for a smallish premium

Go figure
PS My wife's was left on porch after ring doorbell, she was downstairs doing laundry
When she open the door UPS was gone but there lay the package.
Are they ever gonna require Signatures on these?
If I get another, it'll be when the US Mint removes the 1 per house limit.
That will give us all a way to perpetuate this thread with more complaints...all the way to the end of the year or until the order limit is lifted.

This thread has made me laugh a lot. As we say in Boston, you folks are wicked cool!
Imron, hang in there, I hope you get your email today.

Of course anything is possible.
oh well..... I owe I owe it's off to work I go.

Set.
Maybe we'll keep it under 100,000.
<< <i>My Dad called me this morning to let me know my UHR arrived safely this morning. I can't wait to get hom on Friday and see it!! (Oh, and my parents, I guess. )

We get it from our youth.
<< <i>Glad to hear a lot of you either rec'd your coin or have rec'd your shipping email. Mine is being delivered today, was out for delivery at 9am ET this morning. Good thing I live in a doorman building in Manhattan.

Thanx REDSOX. I just got off the phone with the Mint, and my UHR is still in process. I'm still hoping even against this apparently hopeless situation.
<< <i>Historically die polish lines don't factor into the grade, but having said that who knows. >>
Mike, we never know. Look at VAMMERS. The future might latch on to the work of art done by a tool & die guy, especially EDS

The quality goes in before the nameplate falls off.
