  • Hi Guys. Been away most of today...

NorthCoin - my order (#308268xx @12:10pm/ET), was setup for home delivery and I paid for the Expedited Shipment (thinking it would improve delivery and force the signature requirement).
But, as I've learned through this board, orders over $300 get a free delivery upgrade equivalent to what I mistakenly paid for....you'd think the Mint's website would/could greyout/disable that selection during Checkout for any order over $300.

FullStrike - you need to go to www.pcgs.com and sign-up as Collector Club membership to be able to submit your coins directly. You'll receive a Member email pretty quickly, with your website ID # and PW. The membership materials will take awhile to get to you, but with the ID/PW, you can do what you need for submission online. I'm a newbie at this too, but think, having read all their online info, I understand what needs to be done for coin submission. I will be calling them directly, however, just to be sure...

i believe it it will be random. unfortunately under these circumstances, just because our numbers are back to back doesn't mean they will be shipped same time. Nevertheless, i do believe we will both get our coins before 03/11

as far as I know, 'X' is the actual letter 'X,' but I don't know if it has a meaning or will change in the future or...

  • I got mine!

    Ordered 1/23/2009
    Order # 308770xx

    Email shipping confirmation received 2/26/2009

    Arrived 2/27/2009

The book is backordered, but the coin and case are even more beautiful than I expected! My only aggravation with the whole transaction is that delivery person left the package on my front porch, behind a pot. I'm lucky that I saw the package when I did or else I might have discovered it sometime this spring.

    Choppy

Hey, say hello to the Palins!! Sarah rocks! I don't care what anybody says. She made a lot of mistakes but what novice wouldn't, and it took a lot of guts to do what she did. Those Palins are good people.

  • It's like a ghost town in here. I think I see tumbleweed. What? Did everybody finally get their UHR? Exhausted from the fight? Wake up you cowards and call the Mint !!!
  • ya tell me about it. You would find more cheer in a graveyard. Even though my UHR will come monday. I am still PO'd at the mint for all the trouble it has put all of us early people threw. I can only imagine what will happen next time a product like the UHR comes out. Hopefully they will have learned their lesson and will be prepared

I called to cancel and spoke with Judy. She said they have had allot of cancelations on this order because of lateness in mailing. She asked why I wanted to cancel and said that the quality that I have seen is unacceptable and I didnt want to go thru the hassle of returning it if I didn't like the coin. She said I could always refuse shipment, I told her that the mint cannot even send the coin correctly what makes you think they can handle returns she openly laughed and canceled my order.

My co-worker received his UHR on Thursday and he ordered on Day 2. My impression of the coin/packaging is this....The wooden box that the coin is housed in is VERY elegant and would be suitable for any bonafide American classic coin ever minted. This box looks like it should house an 1804 silver dollar or 1913 Liberty Nickel. It's really that nice. However, it does make the UHR appear smaller than you would expect, which it is, of course, due to the thickness requiring a downsizing of the diameter. And the coin is absolutely stunning....especially the reverse. I am not big on slabbing, but this coin belongs in a slab if only to make viewing the edge easier.
  • Thanks for info on the coin, I will display it in the mint box proudly, if I ever get it. Slabbing takes away a little of the coins soul.. I have my share of slabbed coins, I just got a few more on ebay yesterday. But I won't send one myself. Maybe because I am just really cheap
  • Ok people. Tomorrow is the big day to the beginning of a big week. This is gonna be big, really big. Now, hopefully everybody is ready and knows what to do. Remember to check your emails, credit cards, and the forum. Remember to call the Mint, Pitney, and your congressman. And for heaven's sake remember the Alamo!! Now make sure you get a good night's sleep tonight and no drinking. By 8 p.m. tonight everybody should be settled in, relaxing, and mentally preparing for this really big week. Ok people let's win one for the Gipper...on three!

Edit: Wow, this is really working. I can hear the Eye of the Tiger; I can hear the people shouting Rudy, Rudy... and We will, We will, rock you!!

I cannot speak for everyone I have seen two in hand and two pic's here on the forums all four of them had issues with the rims and two had very small scratches on the face of the coin. I will wait until the secondary market opens up and find one that I can see in hand before I buy it. Plus this way I don't have to play games with the Mint on returns. No one has found out yet if they can control returns they obviously were not prepared to sell and ship a high demand coin, they being PBGS.

Yes Agent Jim (spoken in a tone of voice evoking authority like Maxwell Smart) Anyway, thanx for the compliment. I'm sure many people can't wait for me to get my coin just to shut me the hell up.

I would say most of my thread count is from this UHR thread, but keep in mind, I joined this forum because of my problems with the UHR. However, you will typically see me speaking out against stupidity in threads such as the California sales tax, the ebay buyers bidding on a Mint box with no coin, and the new coin dealer asking for tax advice.

And when I get my coin, the joke will be on all of those within this thread who desire my demise. I will do whatever it takes to be the next Director of the Mint. Here I come Moy boy!

IMRON FOR DIRECTOR OF THE MINT !!! Call your congressman today.
  • I have to agree with agentjim. Your posts are very enlightning in these dark times. I am sure I speak for a lot that you brought us jokes and amusement in these bad times. Long live imron may others follow in his footsteps
  • I have to say I'm not as passionate as many of you are about this coin. I didn't begin this journey thinking I would flip this coin but I have since decided to flip. When I saw my credit card charged (authorization on credit card) and my cancel box gone we all know from past experience that you will be hearing the door bell ring real soon. I stuck it on ebay thinking I would have the coin by the time the auction ended (or within a day or two). That's what I get for jumping the gun. Fortunately for me high bidder was a very reasonable guy who even after I offered to return his money gave me the 30 days to deliver this coin. He even paid with echeck saving me about $40 in fees. If I can't deliver this coin to him I will cancel my order and move on.

Hey Board, I have a newbie question:
Which is the better organization to have the UHRDE graded: PCGS or NGC? Assuming a UHRDE could get a MS-70 at either....which one has might have the better investment value over time?

I think I know the answer, but I'm real interested your "experienced" perspectives.

BTW, which grading service has the looking coin holder?

  • 99% of the time PCGS is the holder of choice. If it comes back 69 it will be worth more in the OGP so I would remove the coin from the capsule and save everthing so I could put it back if MS69. Actually I would never submit it in the first place.

agentj...that's what I thought too.....but I'm really impressed with the NGC holder.

Im cancelling my order on monday.

Way too many non-coin type people getting all gushy about this coin...spells a big run up and then a huge flop.

Like when the Mexican landscape guy starts telling you what stocks to invest in.

As someone who recently became interested in coins... thanks for the insult

I was under the impression that this coin would break ground and introduce numismatics to a new generation of collectors and thus benefit the whole "community." Now I'm beginning to wonder if the uninspiring nature of modern releases may have been a byproduct of the indifference of the old guard to do anything other than accept the inevitable.

If the Mint is the de facto producer of collector coins, why shouldn't we have a two way communication... why is this such a revolutionary concept? We don't have a Teddy Roosevelt running around meeting brilliant sculptors these days... and somehow I don't think the prez will be very interested in coins unless his own face is going to be on them. It'll be our task to communicate what we want, as customers of any other business would do.

TM don't take things folks say to heart, everyone has an opinion. I've been collecting for 20 years, nothing serious mind you. I join this forum to learn from the smart folks. Everything else is just fun and joking around with people that share a common interest. I watched the forum for months prior to joining, so I have a fair idea of the serious collectors and the folks that are just having a good time. I wouldn't take anything personal, unless it was directed to me. Frankly I'm impressed by the mostly friendly banter here. Kinda reminds me of my 24 years in the Navy.image

If you love the UHR (and can afford it), then buy it. Anything else, is just pure speculation (ie popularity, mintage, scarcity, future value etc.).

As for me, I love the UHR, it is a beautiful fascinating coin rich in history and modern day controversy. I can't wait to hold it next to my Saints. Yummy, gimmee more!

The UHR is likely to just be another bullion Coin but it will represent a very Golden Era in US Coinage. Since you will only be paying a small premium over melt - where's the harm?

Anyone that can be happy paying $50,000 for something from a Dealer ( who paid $30,000 for it ) more power to you. Us junk Collectors are happy to get a near perfect modern replica from the US Mint. image
