edit: bad enough that I had to chase one of them, but two (if it's true that there are Winn and Lewis variations) is too much to ask. Actually, I'm fully expecting the 7th variation to be Randy Johnson, so it could possibly be three.

Not meimage After the email I got from Lockwood on Monday saying that my cards were shipped "today", I thought I'd be ripping tonight.
Nope. I just got a UPS shipping notification that my cards were shipped TODAY. Expected delivery,,,, Monday the 16th.

    Not happy.

    It was definitely Poops McGee.
  • Box 4 of Hobby Case (don't worry, I'll get back with scans from first 3 soon)

    "New York Thirdbasemen box"
    Box Panel- Napoli/Wright/Antonelli
    Buy Back- Hal Brown
    4 Chrome
    1 Refractor (Wright)
    7 SPs
    2 BBFB (Marichal, F Robinson)
    2 NFB
    2 NAP (Manny, S.Drew)
    1 T&N Banks/Howard
GU- Carl Crawford (now have one from retail AND hobby hehe)

One pack had ARod regular card and ARod SP All Star card back to back, and a later pack had Rival All Stars, and I got the regular David Wright card as well. Crazy.

  • Box 6 of Hobby Case, last for tonight

    Box Panel- Clement/Arroyo/Tigers Team
4 Chrome (Hamels not scanned, since I put a Refractor up earlier)
    2 Refractor (Lester, Gio Gonzalez)
    9 SPs

    2 NFB
    1 NAP (Longoria)
    2 T&N (Aparicio/Taveras, Friend/Halladay)

Nearly stroked out after I regained my eyesight from the retina burning Lester refractor to see it was followed by an SP, then Fred Lewis. But alas, it really was Fred Lewis, not Randy Winn. Istanbul must know what he feels like.

Ya know, if seller IDs determined bidder confidence, I'd be screwed...but I agree.

Also, Terry...I like Lockwood a lot, don't get me wrong, but he was really slow to ship my A&G last year as well. I'll probably purchase from him again this year, but I'll probably have some product from somewhere else too.

Clay did tell me that we should be looking at the fronts of the card for the variation. I have a huge stack of cards but are just too lazy to put
them all in order and compare fronts. I know someone here is motivated!

Topps seems to have stuck to the 1960 script for error/variations pretty well so far this year, so I will mention this again:

    From the real 1960 set:

Card #102 Kent Hadley (with different logo) - was corrected
Card #133 Manuel Javier (When it should have been Julian) - remained incorrect
  • Well I went through 2-5,000 count boxes last night and did not see any variations on the cards I have.
  • cwazzycwazzy Posts: 3,257
There seems to be a simple solution to finding #7: have Zep buy a box and open it. That's guaranteed to produce the final variation. image

The one error I have located is on card # 160 (Rival All -Stars). The cards I have

show Rodriguez batting left handed, which is not accurate. Perhaps someone at

Topps spotted this, and have changed the posing on the card. If changed would be a variation,

if not, then an oversight on their part and nothing to it. Craig in Ohio
  • The Ty Wigginton card also has his name spelled wrong on the front but right on the back. That might be one to keep an eye on.

Did we figure out that Pettite/Pettitte is a UER?
  • Well Joe Stalin was quite the dictator, but who knew he was a helluva prognosticator?!?!? He was either dead on for this box (normally true), or a bit early after you see what came in box 8 (shoulda been 7, but maybe I pulled them from the case out of order....).

    Hobby Box 7 "Seeing Red"
    Panel - Fowler/S Drew/Feierabend
Buyback - Hal Brown (2 in the same case! Why couldn't it be someone good?!?!)
8 SPs (Frank Thomas card just looks stellar imo)

Ouch. Hope that was someone here that won it just to take out the item and neg the seller. And even if this was a legit auction, I don't think I could bid on it after seeing the way the card is placed in the top holder. Check out the scan at the bottom of the auction.

Funny thing, pull up to Wal-Mart and start looking for some blasters. Can't find anything anywhere so I ask a cashier. He says go to toys, so I do. The lady doesn't understand english very well but clues in on the word "cards" and proudly shows me several card games, Uno and the like. I try and get her to understand Baseball but she isn't grasping it. I say "Futbol Cards" in my Mexican accent(not sure why) and she takes me to a Wilson football. I laugh and she thinks she has done well. "Gracias" I say and she walks off. I finish walking the toy department, check for figues and head for the all knowledgeable Customer Service Department. They always have answers, right? I was sent to look back up front by the registers where they have always been, nothing, nothing at all! I'm puzzled as I look for someone who might be in charge. Yep, she was directing workers to wipe up water coming from the cieling. When I enquire, she tells me the story and arguement with the manufacturer. I ask and she confirms Topps. Evidently, Topps is requiring minimum orders with Wal-Mart. Seems odd since everything comes out of a huge distribution center right here locally in San Antonio. Bottom line, no Sportscards of any sort from my local Wal-Mart, which gives me one more reason to stay away. Of course I've got 3 more within a 10 mile range
Go to Target and buy 3 blasters and leave the last four boxes for someone else. I sure would like to catch the a$$whole who opened up the only three boxes of retail and sorted through them to find the "hot packs". I would rip thrm out of his hand and stomp on that red ink. Left those alone.
I'm beginning to think that the blasters offer the best value. Three boxes for $64.64 and it seems there are some good pulls being landed. I'll post the three in a bit.
