<< <i>I guess we can only compare these to last years variations...at this time there were plenty of Santana and a good amount of Smoltz out there. This year there is almost nothing. I think also of people will miss these and might have them but not know it. That Fred Lewis might be the hardest of all. I'm guessing 25-35 each tops.
Kevin >>
I'm going to say 60 of each....but I also have a sneaking suspicion, similar to what someone posted earlier, that a lot of people aren't aware of these variations at all and have these opened cards sitting in piles on their desk. That Fred Lewis variation would get by most non-SF Giant fans if they weren't looking for it.
Geordie, topps almost always prints in 110 card sheets, but sometimes they have use 100 card sheets.
Hard to guess what configuration they used to print up the ssp's, since 4 doesn't divide into 110, and it doesn't seem likely that they printed 110 of each SSP.
The guys at the shop tonight were talking about a 5th variation. They said its Conor Jackson or Carlos Quentin.I can't remember which. Can anybody confirm this? It's the first I have heard of it. Mike
I'm starting to put my set in a binder. Anyone notice anything odd about card #139 and its placement in the set? Anyone have a clean #139 without roller marks all over it?
OMG, I cannot believe that autograph list. The 50's and 60's had some of the greatest pitchers, hitters, and sluggers of all time. I gues this will not get better as the years roll on, either. No Al Kaline, Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Aaron, Torre, Brooks, and on and on and on????? Why isn't Berra signing, he can't be making that much off of his AFLAC gig. Shame on Topps for such a sh#$%y run and me for dishing out the close to $400 so far. Man I love the 60's sets. I may just have to stop and find another set to put together each year. I think Topps made putting a true Master set together pretty tough this year. I don't know, I just don't know. Kevin, if I pull any sigs, you can have them. All I want in return is 50 sticks of Topps gum.

<< <i>Anyone have any tricks to getting scans to conform to size? I got the scanner working, but my jpgs are too big. >>
The tips you already got for resizing existing pics are good. If you are interested in changing future scans, your scanner should have a resolution setting. I change mine from "Original" to "640x480" for single cards. That way it scans it to a smaller size pic and you don't have to worry about resizing it.
In other news, I got some nice hits in some blasters last night. I won't be able to scan them until tonight though.
***Has anyone realized the increase in the price of 2009 Topps Heritage. It is insane. I cant seem to touch a case of it for less than $800. Who in there right mind would pay so much for Heritage. I had a case of 09 Heritage pre-paid for $625 from LRCards of New York. I got stiffed on the deal when he went out of buisness in early Febuary. I had to go through my credit card just to get a refund. I talked to the owner "Larry" at the end of January when I paid for my case. He told me he was getting 100 cases of 09 Heritage, just like in the 3 years prior to 2009. He told me that Topps had raised the price of the cases directly to him by $15.50 a case. So that told me right there that there should be no increase in the price of Heritage. Of course I never did get my case because "Larry" went out of buisness. So I thought I would go down to the City of Industry in California. Home of Frank and Sons collectible Show. It's a rather large place where you can purchase boxes of hobby for ebay prices or less. So I thought I could go pick up some Heritage boxes for around $58 or so per. Just like I did in 2008. When I got there I was shocked to see that the lowest box I could find was $71 per. Every dealer had a different story about why the sudden hike in prices for 09 Heritage too. Some told me Topps was not printing any cards until they had been paid by the persons/buisness ordering them. Well thats a load of crap because Topps printed the same amount of Heritage this as last year. Based on the Chrome cards and the odds of pulling a Chrome per/pack ratio. Then some told me that Topps raised the price. Bullsh*t. I know the direct line price from Topps, approx $550.50 per case. Or 3% over Topps cost. So the price hike is somewhere between the regional distributor and your local dealer. I think the ecinomic greed gripping America right now has even hit my beloved Topps Heritage. Dealers and distributors know that the Heritage always sells really well. So they have decided to raise the price you and I have to pay in order to make more money. The saddest thing is, is that people are paying the higher price right now as I write. I am so dissapointed. I was looking forward to ripping open some packs of Heritage this year. I love putting together the master set. Last years was the biggest ever. But at $800++ a case... No WAY!!! You will never even get close to 1/2 of what you paid for it in the first place. The best Autograph that you can pull is Clayton Kershaw. Of course there are some older ball player auto's but the odds are 1:305 packs. WOW. Thats like 1 every other case. Topps has disgraced the Heritage industry with junk that they have put into the product this year. The worst thing is I think after its all said and done this year. After you have built your set, sold your auto or black refractor on ebay. You will look back and say "I paid almost $1,000 to biuld that set, and it only books for $400" Heritage was never ment to priced at what a case of high end cards is. But some greedy people out there are trying to squeeze every last dollar they can out of you...
Welcome to the board. The high prices are only for the hobby cases. For the first time, I went with retail this year and got 8/24 cases for retail for well under 400 per case. That's well under $600 per 12 boxes. You don't get the box toppers or buybacks, but that's about the only difference this year. Retail even has cut sigs for the first time this year, not that I ever got one in all the cases of hobby that I've opened.
Greed has came into play this year with heritage, it really is too bad, but these boards are too smart for that. We either locked in hobby before all this mess, or we went the retail route. The auto list and pull odds is topps fault and really on effects a few of us who collect those or who are looking for value in these boxes....and again if you are picking these up for 60 or less a box (which many of us did), we are ok with these boxes having little value in the autograph and game used department, I still stand by heritage, in in that sometimes the best value is just in the chromes and short prints. There are many people who build this set and some of them are ok with paying 85-100 per box.
Dealers have been greedy, I have seen it on the net and have seen it in my home city, but it will only kill them in the end...that is less money Im going to spend on the next product.
Welcome to boards, you are in the right place. There isn't a more knowledgable group of heritage collectors anywhere. If you want to find cheap product we can tell you where to find it, if you need a few cards, we can trade them to you, if you just need to vent we are ok with that too.
For me the trades are the best part and that is just now starting for me. In the end my friend, there will be plenty of 2009 heritage to buy. If you are willing to wait, you will be ok. Once the next topps product comes out, no one will care about heritage! Good Luck and welcome!
Well I had to go to Walmart, no blasters but I did pick up 15 jumbo packs. They are going to sit here unopened until I finish sorting my base cards, which is almost done.
They also list the #407 Randy Winn (Fred Lewis pictured), which none of us have seen pop up on Ebay (and I have been calling since the other variation was discovered). So that makes 6: Smoltz - Red Sox Glavine - spelled Thom Ramirez - Red Sox Randy Winn (Fred Lewis pictured) Fred Lewis (Randy Winn pictured) Conor Jackson - Rays
Now 1960 Topps #58 is Gino Cimoli (one of the original ones that have the logo variation).
Does anyone else find it odd that Josh Hamilton doesn't have a regular issue, just the All-Star SP?
Thanks, but unfortunately I am on a quest to find the others to complete the master set. Hopefully after a few months the prices will come back to earth and I can begin to fill them in.
Wow, great news on the 7 variations, now i get to wade through all my base cards again!
As an aside, I have a second alex gordon cutout #255 from 2006....the ORIGINAL heritage super sp. If anyone is interested for $225, let me know, otherwise its going up on ebay.
