Why is Adam Eaton the 5th highest paid player on the Phillies? That is 15 times what Cole Hamels is getting.

I've said it before, and I'll say it agin: I love when these Sillies fans make all these excuses about why they didn't win tonight, or why the stars weren't properly aligned, blah, blah, blah...

Only reinforces the fact that they know New York is the superior team and they are getting real nervous right about now, LOL!

What Pets fans don't seem to comprehend is that the Phillies in recent years have always been a strong second half team - Pets fans who don't understand this will learn.

So the chirpin' canary Pets fans better enjoy their little winning streak while they can...because after 162 games it won't matter as the Phillies will be NL East champions again - it is already etched in stone.

Steve, we all know 2007 was a once-in-a-lifrtime deal for your sorry team (before they went 3 and out in the first round). 2008 is our season. And your "mercenary" BS argument will be all washed up, just like the Sillies, LOL!

Jerry - You're not listening...So I'll state it again...The Phillies as 2008 NL East champions is already ETCHED IN STONE.

Nothing is etched in stone when you give up a touchdown and two point conversion in the 4th inning against the D-Backs.

Ahhh they are almost 16 games into the '2nd half' and the Sillies have been pathetic during that time.

Phillies will be in first place at the All Star break...

...and the Mets won't. Ah Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Sillies played 1 more game then the Mets, had they played the same amount
    things could be very different.

Also, this is not 1981 you win NOTHING for being in 1st Pl at the break.

Big talk for a team that lost more then they won this past month.

hanging on by a thread you are.

    You mean you are hoping?

As you do have a 50/50 chance .

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,037 ✭✭✭✭✭
Okay, so the Mercenary Mets have put together a good win streak...that has to be acknowledged, but the bottom line is that the Phillies going into the All Star break are in first place, not second place, not any other place, but first place...and that's all that matters.

If someone would have said to me before the season that the Phillies would be in first place at the All Star break, I would have definitely taken it, as I would take that any season.

So...I'm going to thoroughly enjoy my FIRST PLACE PHILLIES as I enjoy the All Star game because I know, and knowledgeable baseball fans know, that the Phillies have in recent years been a strong second half team, and I fully expect that to occur again.

But weren't you the guy who predicted that your Mets would be in front by 10 games at the All Star break?

I think that "prediction" deserves 10 funnies:

    imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Yes, that was 11 funnies...I threw in an extra funny for all the wrong predictions that your buddy WinPitcher made.

    Mercenary Mets?

yeah they have 2 or 3 free agent signings. I guess that is what you mean?

Guys like Reyes and Wright came up from the farm, others through trades.

    geeze sounds like the Sillies!

Like I said, I'm not necessarily a Phillies fan, but I'll continue to root for Jamie Moyer until he retires. Chalk up win No. 239 for Moyer. Wow. Assuming he pitches next year, he could realistically retire with 250+ career wins. No chance at the Hall of Fame but, really, how amazing is that?!

    /s/ JackWESQ

P.S. In 1986, the Cubs had these players on their roster:

    1. Jamie Moyer
    2. Greg Maddux
    3. Rick Sutcliffe
    4. Dennis Eckersley
    5. Lee Smith
    6. Ryne Sandberg
    7. Rafael Palmeiro
    8. Shawon Dunston

How many wins, saves, homeruns, RBIs, runs, etc., were they staring at 20 years down the road? Amazing.

Pets lose two in a row - they're now going right down the tubes again after their little hot streak. Those mercenaries got red hot and STILL couldn't get past the Phillies. What a bunch of stinkin' losers the Pets are. Ha! Ha!

like a steamroller squashing a grape.

Rather excessive simile here. A greater poet would employ a more suble approach, methinks....

    As like,

    Mets will sweep

    While Sillies weep

    As Wright goes deep

And puts SreveK back to sleep...

Mets fans are now acting too dam nice and civilized as in writing poetry that Emily Dickinson would find wholesome. Well, two can play at that game. image

I don't think that I will ever see

a tree as lovely as a Phillies victory

and so ends this short but sweet poem

as the Phillies win on the road and at home
