<< <i>WOW Doug, those are some mighty nice 61 high numbers! Do you have a complete set that is in the same general condition?
Thanks Tom- I would say the set I have is about this condition. Some of the BIG cards-Mantle, Aaron I would like to upgrade but overall it's like the high's. I have two graded common cards in the whole set, a "8" and a "9". Like many other raw card collectors I'd rather spend what little money I have toward cards and not getting cards graded. >>
do you have any interest in selling your '61 set? >>
Here's an example of "just buy anything" way back when. I think these cards were for sale in the old "Trader Speaks" magazine. The description was "'52 Topps for sale, they were in a fire". I'm sure we've all bought things we shouldn't have at some point. It's funny to look at them now.
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

Fred- I agree nice '71 B Robby, that card is a toughie. Here'e some of my '62s, always have a special place in my heart for the birth year cards. The three All Star cards along with the final 9 cards all have the same top left corner ding. Ouch! Not sure when I got these but I have about 30 more with the same damage. The other three corners are razor sharp. That's the way it goes in the collecting world. Take care everyone. Doug. I forgot to say the top three mid-grade cards weren't included in the dinged corner group.
<< <i>Fred. That's one of the finest '71 Brooks Robinson cards I've ever seen. Where did you find it? >>
found it at a small (thats all we have around here) local show. paid $10 bucks for it.

Oakesy beautiful '62s your Aaron is way better than mine and I know you love the Clemente's, those are great too. Speaking of submitting, here's some '71s that came back EOT---Brett these are the one's I tried emailing but I guess it didn't work. I'm wondering if you guys can give me a clue as to where these were trimmed. I don't see it. Any help would be appreciated. Doug
Nice '62s InitialD which are very well centered. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the checklists really difficult centered? That Colavito is amazing!
Brett-- A good clue would have been, "you will never again see this on the back of a baseball card". Joe Horlen was in the oil business, Ray Culp sold Real Estate, Mike Hedlund was a auto mechanic, Eddie Leon was a engineer in construction, Wayne Comer managed a supermarket, Tom Shopay was a PE teacher, Roy White worked in a dept. store, Bill Melton worked for a engineering firm, Ed Kranepool owned a restaurant with Ron Swoboda, Vern Fuller was a caterer, Johnny Briggs sold cars, Billy Wynne also sold cars, Dean Chance had outside interest in cattle,OK? Ron Santo owned a pizza joint and Woodie Fryman was a tobacco farmer. They all did this in the Off Season to make extra money. It's amazing some really good players didn't make enough playing baseball to live off of. Thanks for the challenge Brett, that was fun. I'll PM you about the '71s, thanks for the note by the way. Until next week, take care.
I also was able to pick up a group of 90 super clean NM to NMMT 1969's at the same show. These cards will definitely upgrade my set that I'm working on!
Here are scans of some of the cards from that lot...sorry in advance for the long post
Great cards Purduepete-- Everything is nicely centered, 69's are great that's the one set I've not upgraded as much as the others. Living in Seattle I love the Pilots cards especially the guys that actually wore the uniform. They all wore the uni the next year (1970) but the team moved to Milwaukee that spring. Here are some '63s for you guys.
WOW!!!! how are those 72s not slabbed???? those are beauties. centering, color, edges, corners...sweet. you have done a great job keeping these cards in that condition.
Thanks,
David (LD_Ferg)

Couldn't resist huh Brett? It was getting a little lonely here w/o your beautiful cards. I'm in for the rest of the day, so I may be on a raw card post binge soon. Those 72's are to die for man, excellent.
Several 76's have been posted on the boards lately, so here's your small time collectors contribution with cards originally "ripped" or as it was called back then "opening packs" in 1976. A friendly little poke on Felica's popular rips. I opened these packs back then at a fraction of todays pack prices.

<< <i>John Ellis is cheating. >>
Nick, I like to give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he was crouching all the way down and started to rise just as they snapped the picture.

Sorry Thomas--I'm going to hold on to them.

Those are some nice 71s!
Some of them need to be subbed, esp the King & Pavletich
Unless of course, you like them raw

It looks like a great bargain. Nice find.

(error card?)
sharpest and richest in color is OC
Initial D, your 62's look particularly nice.
Doug, I sent you a lenghty PM with my opinion on your 1971's. Let me know what you think.
Does anyone have a guess on my 1970 mystery theme?
Here are some of the cards that I was able to find at the show I attended last weekend:
First off - a couple of 53 Bowmans. I didn't realize that they each had a tiny hairline crease when I bought them (but they present well anyway)...
Next - a few more 61 Topps high numbers...
And finally - two more 68 Topps Game cards...
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards

Mike-- Got the note thanks, I'll check on the cards tonight.
<< <i>Butch Hobson because his first name printed by Topps does not match his first name in the facsimile signature. >>
Nick,
That's a valid answer, but not the one I was looking for. The answer I seek has to do with their respective post-playing careers.
<< <i>I'm going to guess along the lines of coaching in the majors. All coached or managed except Perez? >>
Doug,
Perez managed the Reds and Marlins. You are warm, though.
<< <i>I think I got it. Toby Harrah is the only 1977 card in the group that wasn't a manager. >>
Incorrect. Harrah briefly managed the Rangers. You are on the right track, though.
Edited to change it to Bob Boone.
<< <i>Bill Russell did not manage or coach with the team he played for on the 1977 card. >>
Bill Russell managed the Dodgers for a spell. 1996-1998
