Good morning, Brian. Thanks. Any idea what the theme is? Also, want to take a crack at last week's 1973 mystery? The cards are shown a couple of pages earlier. No one guessed it last week.
<< <i>I wouldnt of thought Geronimo would have back-handed a grounder in the outfield. >>
I figured someone would say the answer was Geronimo because he was the only OF, but the back of Stewart's card lists him as IF-OF. But Geronimo, was the only pure outfielder. Of course, occassionaly a grounder may go screaming down the line, causing the OF to have to backhand the ball.
Are they all listed as being about 6'4 in height ?
baseball reference says some are 6'5 and (frank howard is 6'7) - but this is a very common theme I saw on almost all of them that I looked for - being 6'4 in height.

Rich, Excellent job. You are exactly right. Each player is listed at 6'4" or taller. Hence the comment, "big stars."
These are going into PSA with the Group Submission. They are all REAL NICE. Keeping my fingers crossed.
STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Traded for this the last week. A 2008 Topps Triple Thread 1/1 printing plate of Tony Gonzalez. I have been somewhat collecting Gonzo GU and low numbered inserts.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I'm hoping PSA sees it the same way you do! It is REALLY sweet!

<< <i>super-secret mystery theme is none of the guys have facial hair.. >>
C'mon now, that's no secret. This is something so secret and mystifying that only the most dedicated baseball historian would know. Or someone with this set!
<< <i>Brett, you cracked ut a PSA8 Aaron? You must really love raw cards, which are in way better condition than mine.
No guess on the super secret theme, just enjoying the scans.

Joe,
The only cards I keep slabbed are those for my registered sets, which consist of only 1972 Topps FB (now sold) and 1972 OPC CFL FB (on which I'm currently working). I can see them much better out of the slabs and they take up much less space.
unreal 72s....the mays and niekro look sweet. how do you not have these in slabs???
doug, good luck on the bench. looks like the kelly and young may be gems as well. it think the reggie and walker may be 9s. very nice cards. i enjoy this thread each weekend.
Thanks,

Nice guess, Michael, but incorrect. Ted Ford, Fred Stanley, for example, never won a major award. The answer has to do with their playing careers only indirectly.
Here's the 1972 answer: Each man's professional (not necessarily major league) playing career was interrupted by military service. That's something we're not likely to see much anymore.

Right you are, Oakesy. He's also the only one who isn't backhanding the imaginary grounder.

I don't mind at all, tennesseebanker. I just hope you enjoy seeing the cards.

Beautiful cards. Are all your sets raw or do you grade cards as well?
