That's a nice 9-lookin' Marino! Congrats on that one...almost pays for the full cost right there. image

Nothing yet for me here in South Florida, but expect it anyday now!

  • These are my 82 cards - Just a little note that it did make me laugh when I saw the football brothers card. I had forgoten about that one. Pack also had a cool little gold foil sticker of Dan Fouts.

  • Once I opened my 1985 pack, I knew it was over before it even started.
All of the cards were warped like there had been water damage or something like that.
Hopefully it was just a freak thing and I was the only one with this problem.
I did scan the cards anyway.

  • Nothing worth grading in my 1986 pack, but the scans are below.

That was a whole lot of fun and well worth the money! I will be participating next time. Thanks to Chris again for making this happen!

Edwin, you have your 82s and 83s backwards.image Thanks for all the scans, though. I really hate how Topps took alot of their photos of players just standing on the sidelines or sitting on the bench. Love the Murry card from 84, makes it look like he was a quarterback.

This was fun. I seemed to get a lot of Bengals for some reason. Count me in for some future rips.

I'll respond to those who pm'ed me for trades. LMK if you are interested in any of mine, I'm planning on submitting some, but most will be available for trade. Mostly interested in Cleveland Browns.

Got my packs....and was dissapointed. image

If these didn't come straight from Steve, I wouldn't believe it. The '77 pack was completely open and had absolutely nothing in it. Lots of damage in the '85 Topps pack with the gum basically indenting itself into one card and inflitrating the next.

1976 - "Mean" Joe Greene (possible PSA 9)
1977 - Nothing (checklist card was best card in pack) image
1978 - Gene Upshaw & Ed "Too Tall" Jones both badly OC image
    1979 - Sipe, R.Rhodes & S.Grogan were the best cards...tell you anything? image
1980 - Nothing ... not even a checklist card. image
1981 - Wesley Walker was the best card and nearly all had corner dings image
1982 - Joe Montana IA OC & Passing Leaders (possible PSA 8)
1983 - Theismann passing leaders card was best one image
1984 - Curt Warner OC was best card image

1986 - Dan Marino (possible PSA 8, but corner ding)

Well, I have gotten some nice hits from the rips too. I pulled a Darrel Green rookie from one of the football rips that graded a 10 and sold it for over $200 which made up the costs and more of that rip, also pulled a Ron Guidry '84 Donruss which graded a 10 and saved me about $40-50 which the card was going for at the time. I've got a couple going to PSA now that have shots at solid 9s maybe a 10 here and there from other pulls as well.

But, it sure seems to be either hit or bigtime miss with me on the rips! image

  • That is the nature of single packs. It is a shot in the dark to really pull any key cards. Look at the results most packs yield very little. My hope on this one is the 86 Marino pulls a 10.
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
The lone card from this rip that I'm submitting is the "Mean" Joe Greene. Even though it's not a bigtime value card, I can trade it for some stuff that I need, I'm sure.

Hi guys, got my cards last night. I taped the rip with my 5 year old. She had a blast. I will try and convert it to put it up on Youtube.

As for star cards. I got a bunch of HOF from the 1986 pack (no Rice or Young) and then crap the rest of the way. The best card I got was a 1979 Passing leader with Staubach and Bradshaw. I did get a few Packer cards, three in my 1986 pack alone. Lofton, Lofton 1000 yd club and Lynn Dickey.

If I can't convert the tape to Mpeg or something I will scan them in..

All of my cards are up for trade for Packer Cards.

    Troy
  • FarveFan - PM me your address and I will send my Packer cards to you when I get a chance.
  • Troy,

That Staubach, Bradshaw leader card is one of my all time favorite football cards.

2 of the all time best on 1 card

Also in the 79 set is a leader card with Payton and Earl Campbell, also a very cool card!!

Is there enough demand for this card to make it worth sending? There's already 65 9s and 7 10s. I'd like to think it has a shot for at least a 9.

    image
    image
  • I would sub it on the chance of a 10. Those 85s in 10s are always in demand.
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
I'll tell you, it's REALLY tough to get a 10 on these things! I sent in four cards that I thought had shots at 10s (well three of the four did, but included an Elway that was 8/9ish) and none of them came back as 10s. Might not be worth it unless you are positive about it.

  • Man quick turnaround, well my 12 cards poped from the rip. Since I do little modern, not sure how to even gauge this. Other than one card which I can not see how I got an OC on it, ill try and post a pic tomorrow so you all can judge. I will probably keep the steelers and put the other 10 on ebay this week to find out, feel free to make me an offer too. While I dont think I did well financialy I sure had fun with this.
