Interesting question ... I am pretty sure for a regular issue it's the 1913 Barber Quarter I just picked up recently ... ChAU image

    1794 50c 23464

New post made on page 7. The 1794 50 c has a mintage 39 x the Proof 1890 seated half.
  • Since we're talking original mintage and not survival, then my lowest is a 78 CC $10 - original mintage 3,244. It's currently in an ICG VF30 holder trying to get it crossed. The lowest original mintage CC gold coin is the 79 CC $10 with 1,762 minted. Even the mega-expensive 70CC $20 had an original mintage of 3,789. Survival rates are a different story.

    A 1907 HR $20.
  • I have one of them seated halves from the 1880's in NGC PF-58.. I know the mintage is low but I forgot exactly what year it is.

My second lowest would be two 1913-s quarters .. mintage 40,000

mintage means nothing though.. survival rates combined with demand mean more. I also factor in whether or not the date has proofs associated with it as well, because it in many cases drastically increases the survival rates of that particular date... I always combine the proof and circulation strike into one number when looking at seated stuff.

Before recently I just hoarded coins with low mintages, which is why I have these quarters, and quite a number of 1927-s quarters. Live and learn. At least they've gone up. image

1886 three cent nickel (impaired proof-only issue, ICG PR-50) -- total mintage 4,290. Got it for well under $300 last year. That's an out-of-favor coin series for you.

    fc,

That coin is way too classy for RYK. He likes dead skin cells and buggers on his coins.

As far as you pants go, I hope you have a good dry cleaner....I will try not to post it too much. image

The scarcest I can think of is a Haitian Statue of Liberty (US), mintage 321.
There's also a Western Samoa Lindbergh coin with a mintage of 660.

There are a lot of coins that are far harder to lay hands on though. Coins
like this Haitian piece get little demand so are quite cheap when you can
    find them.

Nikola Tesla Sesqucentenial medal, 50 grams 999 Gold, only ONE minted (at present).
I might make two more, bringing the final mintage to 3. But it is a modern
    "so-called dollar", not a coin.

    It's on it's way to PCGS now. I think it's a nice 64 with a shot at 65.

    silver 1802 dime 10,975
I plan to sell the dime, the next in line is a 1794 half dollar ~22,000
    gold 1839-D $2.50 ~13,000

Survival rates on early US coins are typically 1-3%, and mintages can be over or understated. A modern issue with a mintage of 1000 may be more common than an 1802 half dollar with a mintage of ~28,000, but around 300-500 survivors.
