hey gang, i thought i'd drop in with a post since i read this thread from time to time....my apologies in advance for spamage, but i wanted to inform anyone who might be interested that i currently have a '77T #561 Pete LaC@ck PSA 10 on eBay right now, it's a POP 3 and real nice....also a handful of PSA 9 HOFers, including a Reggie and a Bench which were pulled from a very memorable BBCE vending box...click on my sig link if ya wanna.
i'm giving up on doing this set graded for now, but i love and still enjoy my raw set and i'll keep reading here, so think of me as the kid in the candy store window.
again, sorry for spam, any doubts about me, ask theczar, he'll vouch for me. thanks.
no, just the Reggie and the Bench, the other graded cards from the box have since been sold, the rest reside in my raw set.....some of the other 9's were acquired here from another board member.
Actually, now that I think about it, there are several great action shots in the 77 set (particularly pitchers). Along with the Seaver, you have Matlack, Palmer, JR Richard, Tanana, Randy Jones, Mike Marshall, etc. It would be cool to have Seaver and Matlack facing each other in a Mets display of some sort.
Reading this thread, I'm really surprised by the prices high grade '77s bring. I don't remember the card stock being thinner that year, what makes these cards so hard to find in high grade?
I love the 77s but the card stock in 79 was even worse, IMO..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
This thread promted me to get my 1977 set out and take a quick scan. I finished this set in 1987 and haven't looked at it in years. After a quick scan I see the problems you all mention. This is one of the best cards of the stars I found so far. I'm looking to sub at least 50 cards for my PC in the near future and was wondering what you think this would sub ? Not planning on selling it, just protection.
It's amazing that many have put together a really nice raw set from the 70s and probably paid full book for a few cards that would be lucky to grade an 8 -- and 8s aren't worth that much. I still maintain cards from the entire 1970s and through 1980 can be tough to find in Mint. It usually gets a response to the effect that tons of unopened quality stuff is still out there.
If that's the case (pun intended), then where are all these cards? Now is the time to start selling when folks are in their prime pay check days based upon when they were kids.
I've heard that Larry Fritsch has tons and tons of this stuff. If so, you would think it would be leaking into the market at a faster clip.
Regardless, a mint or gem mint card from a true unopened box -- is still a thing of rare quality...
I just got a 1977 Topps Munson graded a PSA 9 dead centered. I collect this set raw with HOF stars in PSA 8 - so the 9 is out of place. If anyone wants to trade or buy this card drop me a pm. Chris

<< <i>Or if you go the unopened route you could find a really tough card that is impossible to get, that might cost you a premium on eBay (speaking from experience).
You should really do whatever you have fun doing ... if you enjoy going through unopened material then BBCX is the place to get it. Steve Hart is simply the best at this stuff and you can rely on his quality and service.
If you do go the unopened route make sure to get plenty of Cardboard Gold Card Saver 1 Semi Rigid Card Holders as you'll want to be using those for your PSA submissions or for storing/selling them.
... and then pick up some BCW Super Vault Storage Boxes. They work great for both raw Card Saver 1s and PSA Graded cards.
Hope this all helps! >>

That Munson is stunning one of my favorite cards of all time!!!! If I had 300 to blow I would buy it in a second. The Yount from 77 is also a favorite that I would plunk down money for a beautiful mint 9 like that.
I just got these back from PSA, they were part of a board rip with BBCE a few months ago. Hoping that someone might be able to tell me what their approx. value is. I was going to throw them up on Feebay, but I may not bother if I'm only going to get a few bucks out of them.
Thanks
1955 Topps is done! working on 1956 Topps in PSA 6-7
Thanks gents. I have always viewed the 77 Kingman as a prototypical example the set that year. Vibrant colors, action shot, and visually appealing. I think only the Garvey is more attractive in that regard IMHO. Of course, as you guys know, I am partial to All-Star cards.
LMK if you have PSA or SGC 9 mint cards of: Fred Lynn, Fidrych, Garvey, Concepcion or Bench. I have all but the Fidrych in SGC 92 that I'm looking to upgrade just to a 96

FYI, to anyone interested... I threw these two cards into a batch that Rick Probstein is selling for me on ebay. $0.99 auctions
I remember that one. I had a snipe set about 1200 too low. Ha. I remember a Fidrych going for a ton too not too long ago. It's crazy....but all the more fun.

Thanks for the scan. Yeah, the usual print marks aren't there either. It is an extremely nice card IMHO. Most Munsons I have have PD, OC, or ST problems. Bobby
it does look pretty good. i wonder if it being in the old flip is a good or bad thing. it IS a very tough card to track down in a nine holder. there are 37 of them so far, with only the one 10
i am lucky enough to own two, both of which i do not consider "strong" 9's, but 9's nonetheless.

Very nice. I have one and it isn't strong IMO either. I love this card though. It is a great shot of Munson.
Here is an inventory of all the 77 All-Star cards I currently have. This table is a little hard to read but it goes in order from 10 down. Just thought I'd share. I know most of you have a TON of more 77s than I do. I have a stockpile of PSA 8 & 9 Pete Roses going. Ha. FYI - the asterisk means I have it in a .5 variety.

Kingmans graded 9 go from 40 to 60 from what I've seen lately. They used to be quite a bit more, like most of these 77s. I remember the SMR on a 77 Rose in PSA 9 was $265. Wow. How things have changed.
On the Munson PSA 10: I have a suspicion it is sheet cut, can't explain why, maybe I'm wrong, it just doesn't look like any other Munson I've seen
On the PSA 9s: A pop of 37 is still low relative to the quantity subbed, which is about 10%. Star cards from this era that only have 10% or so get 9s are pretty scarce. Seaver has a similar %. It's a really nice card with nice visual appeal, and '76 was his MVP year so it's a safe bet that there will always be more collectors that want that card than are able to obtain it. '77 collectors, Munson collectors, Yankee collectors.
