Yes the image is huge, but take a look at the right side of this 97-O Barber dime I just picked up. just between
the wreath and the words one dime. Normal images will follow. It looks like the reverse of Mike's avatar.
I've not seen a clash like this before. Comments would be greatly appreciated.

    << <i>Here are all of the 1893-S's I have owned - some are seller's images -
and we'll start with the one I got from Brandon Johnson, ex: DLRC auction - 2007:

Followed closely with the one I bought raw [ with an insert from PCGS ] from Barberfanatic in the 2003- 2004 era as memory serves me:

Images of another I have on hand, I believe this coin's image was a tease sent to me by Barberfanatic...:

Yep, I can confirm that those last two coins used to be in my former "mini hoard" of 93-S AUs .
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

Great pick up, Mike. The 1906, while considered a common date to many casual Barber collectors, is difficult to find toned and untampered with. For whatever reason, it seems to have been cleaned inordinately more often than other dates in the series.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

I was speaking with Broadstruck last night and we were discussing the upcoming Baltimore Show that we are both going to be working together at - helping Ponyexpress8 along with Dennis88. More than likely, I will be manning the table most of the time, so, please feel free to stop by and say hello. We are at Holsonbake Numismatics, at Table 956 .

Broadstruck reminded me to make sure to bring my Newp, the 1898 Die Cap Reverse Brockage Quarter that
I managed to pry out of MrEureka's hands. So, I have it in the display case for all to see, if you have a mind to.

Other than that, I won't be bringing anything else for "show and tell" And as Glenn will be very heavily involved in the
BCCS meeting and I will be manning the table with Broqdstruck and Dennis88, please feel free to attend the BCCS meeting
Which I believe is on Friday - Glenn knows the time and room.

    Well, Happy Hunting everybody !!

Anybody wanna play guess which of these Barber Halves Dogwood got at Santa Clara today?
I'm interested to see what your choices would have been.
Here are the four I seriously looked at:
1897-s raw XF40. No hairlines. A tad on the dark side but nice. $800
1902-s raw AU 55. No hairlines. Lustrous with dark edge toning into letters. $410
    1914-p PCGS VF35. Actually a 40. Incredible buckskin toning. $650
1898-o raw XF45. Medium gray. No hairlines. Full strike. $460

I bought one and left a phone message later for another if it's still available after the show, having thought a bit and justifying the spree.
Hint: The one I bought is the first one of these I've actually found.
    We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.

I would like to see the images, Dennis before
    casting an opinion.

Picked up a bakers dozen Barber Halves
a few MS Halves. A beautiful proof Dime,
and it was my pleasure meeting Greg Ballou,
and was able to sell him a coin for his 35 set.

Having a great show not just with Barbers ...

Thanks for guessing about my Santa Clara treasure hunt, and to those of you who said 1902-S, you were incorrect, BUT it was the one I had phoned the seller after leaving yesterday with a hold request, and was bought today.
I don't put the 02-s in as high esteem as many insiders here seem to. Maybe lumped with a half dozen second-tier S-mints. But this one is clearly destined for a 55 PCGS holder, and thus I couldn't stop myself.

(edit with new image. So that's what the HDR button on an iPhone does!!. Well glory be!)

Here's the other show take home.
    image
A well stuck 1898-O that I couldn't pass up. I've never seen one of this date in XF locally, and the ones on the Bay have always had strong bidders. The date is typically terrible in the original look department. This one is not exceptional either, having the dipped or soap and water look that is too common among mid-90's o-mints. What are you gonna do? There are no hairlines and PCGS tends to have no issue with these surfaces.

The other two I looked at were not really of strong consideration, but fun to hold.
The 1897-s in XF is not really rare, out here anyway, just expensive. There was also a knockout raw VF30 and a few F/VF's on the floor. 2nd tier date below AU.
The 14-P in PC 35 really was a magnificent coin and was ripe for a 40 re-grade, but those last 3 Philly's are not high on my must have list.

Looking forward to Baltimore posts. image

<< <i>There are no hairlines and PCGS tends to have no issue with these surfaces. >>

If the coin is going to be slabbed and then sold for a profit, that's a valid consideration.
If the coin is going in your personal collection, a better consideration might be whether you have an issue with the surfaces.

It's tough to pass on hard-to-find coins that finally present themselves even when they don't meet one's personal requirements or preferences. I've certainly learned this expensive lesson the hard way through several stupid purchases, some of them recent. I'm trying to be more patient and discriminating, but sometimes it's difficult when a rare date comes along.

Good point Fanatic, but preferences are one thing and requirements are distinctly another.
Am I going to get over the score long before the coin?

Well, I know your "eye" Dennis, so I'm certain the 98-O you picked up looks VERY acceptable in hand, even if it doesn't meet your exact preferences.

Had a good trip to Baltimore, met Glenn / Ponyexpress8 @ the airport
And we cabbed it to the Radisson near the ConventionCenter.

I picked up a couple nice coins for resale ( maybe, as I like them too
Much, and the collector in me wants to keep them !! ). One Barber Dime:
1904 Pcgs Proof 64 - looks Cameo - and has golden toning, but the portrait of
Liberty is white. Another Newp is an 1893-P Half in PCGS 63+ with nice edge
toning and splashes of central color. Also I picked up some Nickels for my
1889 and 1891 Proof sets... Both PCGS Proof 66's. From the Stack's auction.

I picked up a bakers dozen Halves for the Dansco, I have already posted them to the Registry set.

On the last hour of the show I wandered around and spotted an 1897 Philadelphia
Half in PCGS 40 for the new Dansco set.

Sorry no images yet - will post them when I get them done.

Here is one I added recently. I didn't notice the little problem it had besides the hole before I had it in hand. It was too curious to return so here it is. A smuggler's tool or a magician's trick coin? Any other ideas?

TightBudget - Nice 1913-S Dime - I was looking at that coin and wished I had one as nice - very tough date - great looking coin, too !

HoledandCreative - unusual smuggler's coin - have never seen a Dime used for such !

Here's a little something I just picked up off the Bay via Fred Weinberg, who mentioned that
he has never seen an off center 1912-S Dime before. For that matter, neither have I until now.

The mark is on the holder - and once I receive it - I'll get it reholdered with the correct Mint designation !

Actually the first purchase and the last purchase from Teaparty were 04-S's (but the first was an AG also in 1996, so not in this set)...the first one in this set was an 03-S. I've never collected Barbers in AG, so I have no idea why I bought that. I had a set of full-rim VGs that I sold in 1988 and must have bought a small batch from Teaparty on a whim.

and my iPad only takes a mediocre image - and of course as soon as I bought the
