Thanks, Dennis. They are not all PCGS, but a vast majority of them are/were. Like I said on the website, I'm trying to go for a basically uniform look with some minor variety. I still need to "upgrade" some of the coins to fit that description, and as you saw, I'm still missing about 10-12 dates.
Regarding the "shopping cart" and "check out" options, I know you were just making a joke, but perhaps at some point in the future when my personal inventory is a little larger I might consider adding that feature.
Nice work on the web site Cary. It does take some time to load, but it's worth the wait. If that 93-S ever wants to visit Colorado, I know a great place for it to stay
I believe this coin was taken out of the 2X2 by the seller for imaging purposes. Not a challenging date, but so nice. I'm assuming the 9.2 at the lower left was the purchase price way back when.

WOW! a totally original and beautifully toned XF 1905-O. I thought their existence was only in myth; like unicorns, the Loch Ness monster and leprachauns guarding gold pots at the end of rainbows.

Thanks, Don. I don't know if it's the "epitome of crustful beauty" just yet (Tyler's set looks pretty crusty!). I have a few dates I need to swap out for examples with a little more eye appeal, and I still need 11 dates yet to complete it. I'm not doing too badly for 4+ months of searching though.
Joe, you've been posting some pretty sweet mid-grade quarters. How far along are you in assembling your set of these? And keep in mind that I am an active worker of wantlists for the mid-grade Barber crew on here, so if you want me to keep my eyes peeled for something please let me know.
I spent a lot of time going over your site... you have a flat-out AMAZING collection on there.
I know how tough these coins are to assemble, I still have about a dozen that I want to upgrade, and, heck, if it wasn't for Mike I'd still be working on the set.
Big kudos to you sir!

After assembling a half dozen or so sets of mid range Barber Halves and always having an eager group waiting for me to sell them, has made collecting these great coins even a bigger pleasure.
The rare occasion of being able to purchase entire sets or nearly complete sets [ some times just to acquire a coin or two ] has given me the luxury of keeping the best and selling off the lesser grades [ ie: VF 20- 25's ].
My last consignment to Ponyexpress8 of a complete set [save but a small handful of coins] proved to be a very good opportunity for most collectors to be able to fill in missing dates in their sets.
The coins I held out of the Ponyexpress8 consignment were brought to FUN - and Cary [ who had purchased an Early Bird Badge ] was virtually our first client of the day. The 1905-O in XF 40 and the 1901-S in AU 50 [ both PCGS ] caught his eye; I was more than happy to have helped him with that sale. Others that he passed on - not because he did not like them - but because - it would have been an economic strain on any one's budget - were the other two coins I had originally withheld: 1893-S in PCGS 45 - and 1904-S in PCGS 50. Both coins are currently at Long Beach with Ponyexpress8 in his case. Glenn mentioned that there was some activity on the 93-S; it seems the couple of friends here that I mentioned it to, are now actively working with Glenn. Seems like the old adage, first one who pays buys the coin.
Umakem - good to see you posting.
RLD14 - When are you going to show us the newly CAC'd coins ?
Cary - You should know my sources for coins like that 05-O... right, Manorcourtman ?
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Beautiful 05-O!!!!!!! Well my XF-AU collecting has taken a backseat to my sons VG-10 set. 39% complete now.... The 99 is a little bit of a disappointment, I think the reverse rims don't justify a 10. But its the only one certified at the moment. The 12-S is just butt ugly, filler for now...lol. Just got my 100mm macro lens last night so now I have to re shoot everything.
<< <i>The 93-S is headed my way I'll post an image when she gets here. >>
Glad you liked my 93-S, Joe. And I'm glad my $20,000.00 price tag didn't scare you away. I look forward to receiving your PayPal payment so I can ship the coin to you.

Cary,
You have a nice 1893-S [ BTW - I love your new web site ] and as Glenn is handling the sale of my dupe's - its up to him and the buyer - who gets what and when. First one who says "SOLD" - gets it. After all, you were the first one at FUN to say "SOLD" on my 1901-S in 50 and the 1905-O in 40.
Glad you were able to grab what I consider one of the "Big Four" in mid grade circulated Barber Halves. [ The others are the two that Cary bought - and last but far from least, the 1904-S ] My PCGS 50 is at Glenn's now - and I have reduced the ask price.
Dogwood - I can believe that - the POP in 45 is under a half dozen [ old data ]; I used to have a couple VF's - VF 20 and a VF 30 - part of the great sell-off.
I also have never handled a PCGS 1897-S Half in 58 [ POP = Zero ] but I saw an over dipped ANACS 58 on eBay the other day for $2500 or so. Passed on it. Here it is:
I'm still looking for an 05-S in PCGS 58 as well... have never seen one offered.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
<< <i>TOPIC ALERT! What are the "Big Four" mid-grade Barber Halves?
Mike says 01-s, 05-o, 93-s, 04-s. Historically, and practically, I have no qualms with that. That said, I've still never held an XF 97-o in my hand. >>
In my opinion, in VF30-XF45 (original, problem-free of course) the "Big Five" are: 1893-S, 1896-O, 1901-S, 1904-O, and 1905-O.
The 1897-O is probably #6, the 1904-S is #7. Once you bring F15, VF20, and VF25 into play, pops and rarity begin to change somewhat.
I have owned one 97-O in XF40 in the 13 years I've collected this series. It's the only crusty XF example I've ever seen, but I have seen a few lustrous XF examples up for sale/auction. Since I don't go for the lustrous XF look that much, I've always passed on them.
I managed to locate an old scan of the 97-O XF I once owned. Here it is!...:

<< <i>Joe, I'm glad to see that Mike's 93-S went to a good home. The price was a little steep for me on that one + I already have a nice mid-grade example. >>
Gentlemen,
I was just informed that another Barber Half collector just paid $2400 for the other 1893-S Half in PCGS 45.
I was originally asking $1875 at FUN and I thought that was a fair and reasonable price in today's market.

I posted the 1913-S already... but... since you're asking...
I need to goose the size of the image of the 1913-S - I realized why the images are too small ;
I had not adjusted the size preferred when I imported the images to Photobucket.
The 1901-S is attached to Post # 2 in this Mega Thread. Never really liked that coin and sold it
to HLRC to purchase the Dr. Peter Shireman 1892-O Micro O Half Dollar, a coin that I really love.
Here's the 1901-S Quarter that I did fall in love with however ...

<< <i>Joe, I'm glad to see that Mike's 93-S went to a good home. The price was a little steep for me on that one + I already have a nice mid-grade example. >>
Gentlemen,
I was just informed that another Barber Half collector
just paid $2400 for the other 1893-S Half in PCGS 45.
I was originally asking $1875 at FUN and I thought
that was a fair and reasonable price in today's market.
Happy Hunting !!
