The beauty is we are getting set up for another AL Championship without the Eastern boys. The Sox will either fail to qualify (highly likely) and the Yanks will get done by either the White Sux or Twins. Or the Sox make it only to lose in three to Detroit and the Yanks go out to the beach and get smoked again by the Angels. Another beautiful post season is in store and assuming things go according to my plans Derrick and Curt can be golfing together by the 2nd week of October and you all can worry about the Pats and Giants.
<< <i>your smack talk is thouroughly encouraged in this thread welcome >>
Yeah I have to get my shots in now because eventually the Yanks or Jr. Yanks will come calling for my teams best players. It's fine though. I just really hope the Os, Jays and Rays can offer some resistance to either the Yanks or the Sox. My wife just took in a game at the Stadium last week and said the crowd was leaving by the 4th inning? Why doesn't George put a retractable roof on the stadium and install some AC? That for sure would stick a fork in the Red Sux.

hmmm, I have been to many many games at Yankee Stadium and not once have I ever witnessed fans leaving in any large numbers that early in a game. Was it one of the 100 plus degree days with 95 % humidity we had?

Yep. She said the Yanks got a bunch of runs in the 4th and everyone started to bolt. I know it can't be normal because I see all you Yanks fans in the stadium every other night on ESPN. She also stayed a night in Boston, but couldn't get tickets. That should really stick a fork in them for sure!
^^Damn sure I do. But I know he didn't win the series by himself, and he's given up the most home runs this season that Varitek has ever caught in his career. That says something, maybe he's uncomfortable who knows? I'm a fan of the kid because he's a gamer, but I think the non-factor that D Wells has been probably effected that rotation more than anything. If Wells was say the Wells of 6-7 years ago; this kid would be in a much better spot.

You talk about Wakefield over guys like Mussina and Wang? Should I use your logic Jerry and post a picture of Aaron Boone belting a Wakefield MEATBALL ??????? in game you know what
Wang and Mussina ..... the Yankees two best starters this season have given up a COMBINED five less home runs then Josh Beckett. How is THAT for a stat?
And Mussina and Wang have given up a COMBINED TWENTY SEVEN (27) less home runs then Schilling AND BEckett combined. How about that? No big deal right? Unless of course it was the other way around I am sure .....
The tide is turning and the Yanks are riding the wave. If they get matsui and Sheffield back, look out! Their injuries may have been a blessing in disguise actually, as the team has really jelled without those two key cogs the last few weeks.

Things are shaping up very nicely for the Yanks. Before Liriano went down I really liked the Twins chances in a short series vs. the Yanks. Now I think they will be lucky to make the playoffs. If the Yanks make it out of the divisional series, they will win the World Series. They will wear down starters and bullpens just like the Boston series.
as much as the series sucked for the Sox, it sucked worse for the fans (we weren't getting paid millions in the process). I think they have pretty much sealed the deal with going 1-5 against KC and TB, 1-2 vs. Detroit, and 0-5 against the Yankees as of late. I appreciate the photos from the NY papers, nice to see that NY editors have a sense of humor too (like the Boston rags after 2004).
The sorry summation of the story is that right now the Yankees simply do not know how to lose to the Red Sox. They take whatever Boston dishes out and they trump it. If you want to go all historical and compare this to the debacle in 1978, I won't be the one to stop you. But that Red Sox team got back in the race. This Red Sox team has one starting pitcher who engenders any confidence at all, and he has lost two well-pitched games in five days.
And please don't embarrass yourself by referencing 2004, either. Just don't.

None of it is forgotten. In fact, it's a very sore memory that we would all like to forget. I was just stating that this series will be remember for a very long time because it was important to the AL East and the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.
Keep trying to make more of it than what it is...I know it makes you happy.

Nobody has forgotten. We all remember very well and havnt tried to put anyone under the illusion that we have. If our team has never won anything, or if we win once every 75 years it would be far more painful than it was. Sure, it wasnt exactly the highlight in team history, but it happened and we moved on. There has been plenty enough winning here to ease the sting of that one collapse. Make no mistake, it was a HUGE collapse, but when your team is in the fight nearly every year its bound to occur eventually.
I think a far more memorable loss would be the M's in 2001 when they had the best record and proceded to choke against the Yankees in the playoffs. Murcerfan, no matter what way you slice it, the Yankees had a monumental collapse and choke that year. Trying to debate anything other than that is useless and gives the rest of us Yankee fans a bad rep.
