Stingray, Good to see someone collecting some what old topps (85-86). I collect the 84-85 topps and I agree, I have a hard time finding cards. The only nice part is that if you see one on Ebay, not much bidding. The bad part is that the big sellers know that and do not put many up for sale. Any way, best of luck finding some!
nothing great, but they keep my average grade greater than 5
i ain't often right but I've never been wrong it seldom turns out the way it does in the song once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right

I have a bunch of vintage hockey graded by psa and sgc on ebay under my user ID bkritz. Some mid-grade stuff and some higher grade stuff. V145-1s and V145-2, an Ace Bailey Rookie psa 6 (1933 Hamilton Gum) and more coming on ebay on Sunday.

I am busy collecting 1981 OPC Rack Packs and busting them open. I have around 100 cards to send into PSA for the $5.00 special for the end of the month. I have two packs coming from Mark Murphy so hopefully I can get a few more that I need. My 1980 set is coming along and then I have to think long and hard n what to do next. I would love to finish some of the later 1980's sets but it is hard to pay 5 bucks a card for grading when you can get 9's for less than that sometimes. Maybe some of you have some thoughts on what set to look at next.
Darren Email me a list of what you need form 80 and 81 OPC because I have 600 cards from those years with alot being nm mt to mint?I also have 82 through 89 OPC's if anybody else needs cards from those years?
I have some Hockey cards looking for a new home. I recently opened (i) one 1979-80 OPC pack, (ii) two 1981-82 Topps packs and (iii) two 1984-85 OPC packs. I received them in a large lot of packs that I purchased. If anyone is working on one of those sets and needs cards from those years, let me know. I will send the cards to you free of charge.
I rarely step out of the Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum and when I saw this thread was I ever shocked and happy. Hockey talk is slim to none on this board and it gets pretty lonely!
Great cards everyone that PSA 9 Gretz RC of raym8's made me drool. It looks far nicer than the rough edged PSA 10's.
Nice cards JrMacdaddy The Canadian Hockey Gum cards are my favourite along with '54 Topps.. I've yet to buy any but will eventually try to make the set in much the same condition as those that you posted.. affordable low grades with great eye appeal.
RedHeart, yeah it was Clancy who really hit Shore.. That ordeal is what started the All-Star games.
phreaky: great 81's and 72's they're gorgeous and that Bossy is awesome. Such a tough card to find in a high grade imo.
Comet: unreal 33's, love them!
yawie99: Your stuff is killer.
Although I love high grades I always buy the card not the grade. I don't mind picking up PSA 3's, 5's whatever with the same if not better eye appeal as the more expensive higher graded cards. I wasn't going to but have now decided to leisurely try to complete a Terry Sawchuk 'set'. I just picked up my all time favourite card of him and really of all cards in general. A 1954-55 Topps. I'm very picky and have been looking for this card for over a year. I should receive it in the mail any day now.
I'll post a better scan when I receive it

Bob, Palmateer must have given the mask to Gary Smith or something.. Palmateer never played for the North Stars. Here's the Palmateer card from that same year.
Glad to see you found "our" thread. The more hockey freaks the better. Thanks to stingray for starting this baby!
As for the Palmateer card you misunderstood which card I was refering to. Look again, I meant the Murdoch card. Someone earlier suggested it might be Favell? I still think it may be Palmateer but the colors look enhanced by Topps. Looking at the card you posted that could be the same mask in his hand. I figured you were our resident mask expert and could shed some light. I love these 70's & 80's cards showing the solid masks before the dawn of the "cage" style. I had one as a kid for my brief goalie career. It was similar to the one Dryden is wearing below but I painted it to look like Gene Simmons. Too cool. I bet its still stashed away in my parents basement somewhere. LOL
What's up with the 54 Sawchuk? Surface wrinkle? It looks pretty nice for a 5!
I actually wore that Cheevers mask a couple times. My buddy owned it briefly about 10-12 years ago and auctioned it off. I think it went for around 16K if my memory serves me right. I have a pic around somewhere. I'll post it if I find it.
Cool beans Bob. I would kill to own the real thing.
From what I can see the Sawchuk doesn't have any creases or wrinkles... it has a little wear on each corner, a print dot, toneing on the back, and a little drop of water or something on the back covering the word 'his'. It's the first thing I see when I walk by my display cabnet, it really stands out. I'm happy with it.
ok now back on topic, i have a short sawchuk bio that states:

i ain't often right but I've never been wrong it seldom turns out the way it does in the song once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right
Later life and retirement He struggled with untreated depression, a condition that often affected his conduct. An alcohol-induced shoving match with his New York Rangers teammate Ron Stewart left Sawchuk with internal injuries that led to his death a few weeks later in New York. Sawchuk was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan. Stewart was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.
Terry Sawchuk finished his hockey career with 447 wins, a record that stood for thirty years, and his career record of 103 shutouts remains unsurpassed. In 1971, Sawchuk was posthumously elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame and awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy for his contribution to hockey in the United States. In 1997, the book Shutout: The Legend of Terry Sawchuk by sports author Brian Kendall, was published. In 2001, he was honored with his image on a Canadian postage stamp. His number 1 has been retired by the Detroit Red Wings.
Nice job on the set so far coach. I don't know how you set builders do it.. It would drive me crazy finding 100+ nice cards to complete a presentable set.
To further elaborate.. They were in an argument over money owed.. and then the argument carried over into who will pay the bar tab.. they took a cab back home together (roommates when on the road) and they got into a fight.. Sawchuk lunged forward at Ron Stewart, Stewart tripped falling backwards into a bbq pit and Sawchuk landed on Stewarts Knee. He had to be rushed to hospital, where his gall bladder was removed, and just a month later he died from internal injuries. He probably had them for awhile without bothering to have his ailments checked out. He had a history of getting badly hurt and not going to doctors.. broken arms.. whatever. He was a tough stubborn sob and the best goaltender hands down ever.
If any of you are really interested in his life story I highly recommend reading "Sawchuk: The Troubles and Triumphs of the World's Greatest Goalie" by David Dupuis
When I met with Mark Napier of the alumni regarding my signature cut cards he mentioned that the books author, Jery Sawchuk (Terry's eldest son) and his wife have been working on a Sawchuk movie. I can't wait to see it.
I posted these on the knuckles can afford but can't find thread. A couple of nice 74 OPC's . I would love a centered Potvin,Salming,Gainey(had a PSA 9 but sold it and regreting every minute of it) Shutt and Mcdonald! Some of the toughest HOF rookies to find centered!
That's the puppy! It's @ $10984.50 now. I wore that!
I gotta find that pic.

EDIT: Actually, the image in the top right corner of that collage is taken from my bud's business card. He had them made up when he owned the mask. Looks like they just cropped out all the text around it.

EDIT: Actually, the image in the top right corner of that collage is taken from my bud's business card. He had them made up when he owned the mask. Looks like they just cropped out all the text around it.

I'm thinking about starting another C56 set, but doing it with beaters this time. I just dig these cards and couldn't resist this one for $32 or so:
I think you should just change your sn to C56!
