I love the leader cards. I'll just go with liking all of the sub sets...
Looking at the stats on back, Ryan & Seaver were close to being on this card. I wish!

    Nice paint job...

Lemongello?! I love the name. You can't make this stuff up!
    image

I'm impressed with any high grade checklist because when I was a kid, mine were all marked up!

    Thanks for looking!

Mark Lemongello was kind of nuts, and not in a good Mark Fidrych kind of way.

They don't mention it in the article but I remember his teammates on the Astros saying that he was trying to bite his own shoulder in the locker room after a bad outing.

Back in the 80's there were 2 twin brothers here in Baltimore that were named --- Lemonjello Johnson and Orangejello Johnson .

They were pronounced leMONjello and oRANgejelllo . They made Newsweek at the time , because of their names .---- Sonny

    1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
  • Not seeing any needed Red Sox in 10, I picked up a few 9s to 'hold me over'. (9's don't get a picture. Haha).

    #83 - Bob Montgomery
    #320 - Fred Lynn
#567 - Dick Drago (This replaces an 8 that I've had for years. Now to find a 10)

    Red Sox Needed:
    #63 - Don Zimmer
    #125 - George Scott
    #208 - Leading Firemen
    #245 - Rick Burleson
    #345 - Luis Tiant
    #373 - Jim Willoughby
    #416 - Jack Brohamer
    #424 - Red Sox Team
    #457 - Bob Bailey
    #482 - Rick Miller
    #572 - Rick Wise
    #597 - Steve Dillard
    #642 - Denny Doyle
    #645 - Mike Torrez
    #670 - Jim Rice

Here are 9s I have, looking to replace with 10s
    #40 - Carl Yastrzemski
    #83 - Bob Montgomery
    #105 - Reggie Cleveland
    #155 - Butch Hobson
    #216 - Mike Paxton
    #270 - Carlton Fisk
    #295 - Bill Lee
    #524 - Bernie Carbo
    #545 - Bill Campbell
    #567 - Dick Drago
    #720 - Fergie Jenkins

    Thanks!
    - Scottie
  • Thanks for the help with the tough cards Frank and Tim. Big step forward.
  • Thanks....it feels good to be "less than 20" away. If I can track down the several cards that actually exist, I might be able to work on purchases/trades to move a few closer. Beyond that, I'm at the mercy of the unopened material still waiting to be sorted and graded....only time will tell. My thanks go to the entire '78T community for working deals with me to get the set so close, though.
    Regards,
    Hatch
  • New pick ups...
    #303 - Sam Hinds
    #425 - Steve Rogers

    Thanks!

  • Yes, my set(s) are listed as SP-Collection (My name is Scott Parr).

Here is a link to my sets...
    SP-Collection Sets

The 1978 Set was the first set I collected.
The 1956, 1959 and 1965 sets are dear to me as when I was in high school, around '84 or so, a friend's dad found these cards in the Chicago trash. He was a garbage man there. He brought them home and I traded for many of them. I ended up with all of the '56 commons, the '59 commons and the '65 stars. On my short list is a rookie Steve Carlton. I don't have any of these raw cards anymore but look at the graded ones all the time. I'll replace that Carlton with an '8' sometime (soon!)

    Thanks!

The Nolan Ryan is flat out the holy grail. Good luck unearthing one Hatch. Just a couple or maybe just one (I don't remember) of my cards are in your set image

I stopped collecting cards 5 years ago. Just no time at all to do it right. My humble 78 set is entombed and has not been touched since.

What I see in this card , that stands out , is the lower right hand corner . I kinda scratch my head when I see a " 10 " on the outside and a corner like that . Nice looking card , no mater how you look at it.----- Sonny

I'll apologize in advance for putting my "Want" list here, but I am in search of a PSA 10 Braves team card from both the '78 and '79 set. There are 16 of the '78's out there, but it continues to evade me. Thanks and I've enjoyed following this thread for a while, even though I am not tackling the entire set.

  • Thanks for the nice words.....sure appreciate the support. If anybody knows how I can contact GuyerR (#28 the 'current finest' list), please let me know. He's got a Pop 1 Nordbrook card I'd sure like to talk to him about. His set-up doesn't allow email contact. Best regards, Hatch
  • Hatch,

Keep an eye on his set to see when he adds another card. If you can trace the sale back to Ebay you might be able to get some info from the seller or get them to pass a message along.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

    Hatch,

A very beautiful set indeed. Be sure to have "Moon money" if and when a pop (1/0) Nolan Ryan shows up. image

If I were you, I would contact PSA, (If you have not at this time) regarding contacting this Guy. They can send an E-mail to him with your contact info. If he is interested, then maybe he will contact you. The worst thing that can happen is that Cosetta says NO. Or the Guy says NO.

Good luck with your set. It is truly amazing to see you get this close.

BTW, beware that I'm coming after your set and the #1 position...I currently have 2 PSA 10's and counting...image

    Paul.

    Later, Paul.
  • Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll take the advice. HG
