Who is Jerry Rochester? I wouldn't pay much for him either...but his little brother Paul...aah, thats a $500 card.

All bids over $100 are my call.

    Jim
  • DAV,

Not a very bright call I might add, and certainly one I wouldn't be bragging about.

I paid about 50.00 bucks for mine a little less than a year ago.

I guess maybe you weren't expecting that second high bidder. image

  • MOJO In defence of Jim i can say i have have the same thing happen when you keep getting outbid by the same bidder and he is everywhere on 8,s like mosh is on nines ,then it is the last card you need and that is Jims last 66 other then the imposible last card checklist (still no psa 8 graded ) you toss a crazy bid out never thinking it will be needed and then murphy`s law comes into play

Shoppinglucy cost us on this one, but we've been lucky to be the recipient of some of his crazy bids on cards in PSA 8 that Jim has upgraded to PSA 9s. Sometimes you pay the ridiculous price, other times you're the underbidder who gets the card at a crazy low price the second time around. It's all part of the game. While it's not football, tonight we won a 57 Topps Bauer in PSA 8. Last one sold for close to $800. One of the last two cards needed to finish the set. We were the underbidder, but tonight we won for $290. In a perfect world, you pay the lowest price for every card, but sometimes you have to pay to get a nice card when you want it. image

Damn Wolfbear ............ you are a very funny guy!!
You always seem to make me laugh.

As mentioned, I haven't been paying close attention to the insanity around here lately.
It is clear to see it is runnung rampent. image
    So who is shoppinglucie??

    Mojorob,

First I am not bragging--tell me where I am bragging on having spent $500 for the card.

Second, who the blank are you to tell me whether I made a bright call.

Educate yourself before you go shooting off your mouth.

    Art,

Of course you are right. When you are bidding against Shopping Lucy and you lose card after card after card sometimes you get frustrated and throw some bids in there to see where his top is. Shopping Lucy seems to be doing every vintage football set in 8 or better and bids aggressively on everything. And now I am down to the impossible checklist.

    Brian,

Good points. We have done well selling dupe 8s to Shopping Lucy.

And nice going on the Bauer($500 plus under the last one). Down to one card on this set. It all evens out(I hope).

Also Brian, as you know I got the checklist from Rick at MintState so you can take that off the bottom of your post.

    Jim

  • Jim,
You seem to be one extremely thin skinned individual.
Educate your self you say, pehapes you should do the same in this instance.

If you are happy paying close to 500.00 for a 75.00 card.
    Have at it!!
That is all I am commenting on.

Stating : Ahhhhh that's a 500.00 card is absolutely absurd when it isn't even close!!
I'm glad it is in your mind and the world you live in.
As mentioned I paid about 50.00 for mine a little less than a year back.

There is a saying that goes: A fool and his money are soon parted.
I will have to take you up on your offer and seriously look over your want lists.
I might be able to retire early.
Heck, I just might be able to retire next week!!

Money for nothing ..... you are the King.

  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
    Mojorob,

I may be thin skinned but you seem to like to throw around the insults with little information.

Sure, I will occasionally overpay for a card. But you ignore all the other evidence such as what Brian said about winning a card at $500 less than the last one offered or on selling my 8s to ShoppingLucy at high prices.

Keep patting yourself on the back for buying "Jerry" Rochester at $50. What I said was in jest as you didn't even know Rochester's first name.

Again, educate yourself. I haven't gotten to over 40 complete sets in psa 8 or better by overpaying--as many have pointed out it is by schrewdly buying and selling and knowing when to step back.

    Jim
  • mojorobmojorob Posts: 392 ✭✭
    Dav,

Ohhhhh you are so schrewd !!!!
Don't sprain your arm patting yourself on the back like you always do.
It gets old, you are always so painfully predictible.

    Let my chuckle.
    Buying a 75.00 card for 500.00
That certainly proves your point there Dav.
You really brought it home with that purchase in a big way.

I think ....... I'll stick to being uneducated, if that is your defination of schrewd!!

Anybody can go out and over pay for cards and sets.
    That's easy.

500 BUCKS for a PSA 8 Paul Rochester card, there is not one ounce of schrewdness in that
    development. Not an ounce.

Spin it anyway that makes you feel better.

Guys--you were right about the mojo man--he is dumber than a rock--think I will just let him carry on to himself.
  • mojorobmojorob Posts: 392 ✭✭
Geez Dav, not the tired old "DUMB AS A ROCK" line from you again.
I have heard that more than a few times in your old posts when you were going at it with others.
You are in desperate need of some new material.

Yea, now that you mention it ...... that might be the best senario for you Dav.
    Just quit.
When you can't match wits, just call somebody dumb and pick up your marbles and go home.
    A Classic Crandell Move.

Little wonder you have gotten kicked off every Sports Card message board you have ever been on.
What is that three and counting??
Isn't that some kind of record?

Dav ........ if you ONLY KNEW what was really being really said about you!!
    I only wish you did.

  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
Match wits with you--thats got to be the funniest line of the year.

Will not let you insult Brian and then insult me and let it go unanswered.

    To summarize:

    Mojorob mocks Brian
Then Mojorob embarrassed pulls the thread
Mojo then finds out I overpaid for a card--horrors!
People then jump on and point out my patience and that I won one for $500 less the prevailing market
Another person points out the obvious--that to finish sets and you are bidding against ShoppingLucy you have to step up .
Mojo decides to again point out I overpaid for a card he paid $50 for but doesn't know correct name of player
I receive e-mails from friends who are fb collectors pointing out that Mojo isn't too bright.
Mojo attacks again saying I am picking up my marbles or something like that.

Does this guy have anything upstairs at all?

    Not real apparent.

He certainly knows little about sportscards.

So I wake up this morning to find the most insulting posts I've ever witnessed on the CU boards. I think a permantent ban could certainly be warrented in this situation. I mean ... for Art and I to have to scroll through ALL of those Cowboys cards, and then for Wolf to add insult to injury by mocking us the whole way ... is just completely uncalled for. Wolf, I believe you've crossed that fine line between poking fun at people and outright attacking them. One of the great things I've always found about "the football guys" is that we USUALLY know when enough is enough! Wolf, I think we've reached that point! I'm certain if you think about the permanent damage you have caused to Art and myself, you'll immediately delete those mean-spirited images and replace them with Redskin cards.

There, I've said it. Now lets all try to get past this ugly Cowboy situation and proceed with the good clean fun.

I'm really sorry you had to witness all that Mike.
Certainly not a pretty picture for your eyes, I'm sure!!
Not one, but actual images of two different Cowboy's Quarterbacks with stars on their uniforms.

I'm sure the scars will linger a lifetime as irreprable damage has not doubt occured.
You just can't turn off mental images like that train wreck once they have been indelibly burn't into your subconscious and oh so cunningly I may add, by one Wolfbear.

However with therapy and the right meds for a prolonged duration, I am most confident we can get you through this.
But I am going to tell you right now, up front ......... it won't be a picnic!

    Kirk,

Thanks for the kind words of support. It's really Art I'm more worried about than myself. His wife called over here late last night looking for him. She said he stormed out of the house around 1:00am with a box of Redskin & Cowboys cards tucked under his arm ... cussing and mumbling something under his breath.

This wouldn't be the first time Art's gone on an all night bender with a box of cards. He was diagnosed several years ago with P.T.N.E.P.D. (Post Tramatic NFC East Playoff Dissorder), and we had to do a family intervention to confront him with his problem.

Obviously, Wolf couldn't have known about this. I just hope that if anything bad has happened to Art ... that Wolf can live with the guilt.

Not to worry Art, there's a nice Crabb up on eBay right now.
Slightly off-centered, but the corners look pretty nice :

    Hmmm,

Wonder if there is any connection between the "Evil Empire" losing four spots and his bailing out of hockey. He must see the handwriting on the wall--that he better bring the cash if he wants to stay ahead of Fuzz and myself. Or maybe he has his eye on Shopping Lucy.

Still have a couple of Kahns set to add and some other tricks up my sleeve.

    Dav
  • Mike,
Thanks for the update. I was going to get to them after I got my taxes done which should be finished this weekend. Dav, I suspect that despite the fact that we have both done well to this point, this guy still has plenty of money to burn beyond what you and I are willing to push him too. I counted last week and I have over 60 sets know listed and another 10 to 20 that I have not bothered with yet. That spreading thin of $ makes it hard to compete everywhere.

    Fuzz,

Now that I have finished 44 sets and am letting most rest I can focus more on the remaining ones. Still it will take a collective effort to beat the Evil Emmpire.

    Art,

Now thats what I like to hear--before you come to my collectors party--give me your drink and brand of choice.

  • Frank the G-men ARE OK IN MY BOOK MY 2ND favorite team well from the NFC anyway.

In the AFC PLEASE nobody tell Wolf but for many years i have liked the BOLTS.

Now if you were a Cowboy fan that would be a whole differant story image

As for the Raiders i still recall Macus going like 75 yards though the whole skins defence in super bowl 18

    Mike
  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
Don't know--asked PSA to list the sets and they did a couple for me but apparently I have to follow some procedure to ask for new sets which I haven't figured out yet.

I think Brian is handling it.

    Jim
  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
    Mike,

I see Brian got 8 new sets up over the weekend--7 baseball and one football--the rest are not listed and I guess have to go through this request procedure.

The only football set up is 68 Topps Teams where every card came back ST.

    Jim
  • Jim,
The rumors of my demise are greatly exagerrated. I have been spending time working on expanding the Fuzz-pire. Climbing a little in the 50's and setting up for a bigger move in the 70's. Can't let Shoulda get up there too far. Speaking of Shoulda..... have you been hanging out with him a lot lately? I see that you are now talking smack when you get to 40% of my totals. Very shoulda-ish. I like that.
MOSH has made it very painful to play on many of the sets to be competitive for an award. I don't think it is a hard choice been spending money on what I like, settling for a top three spot and playing Olympics here or dumping a ton of money that probably can never be recovered to be competitive in a few sets.
I do have some diabolical plots to hatch for the next years Olympics. Just trying to keep you guys honest and on your toes. I'll go back over the results and see what I have missed and see if I can retore your confidence in my ability to compete here. Good Luck tonight on your additions..........may they serve you well.

Well, unfortunately my strategy of completing sets in 8 or better is usually good for 4th or 5th in the 60s sets. No medals for 4th or 5th.
Also, with the Evil Empire paying way over market for leading sets it does make it tough to compete.
What to do..what to do..what to do?
Well Fuzz has thrown down the gauntlet and I can't just walk away.
Looks like a major effort in the lesser known sets(such as the CFL sets) and directly targeting the Fuzz where he is getting two medals per set. Yup--want to tell you my strategy in advance Fuzz so when I pass you , you can't say you weren't warned.

    Dav
  • Hey Dav,
Six weeks after threatening hardball, you have lost ten percent of your medals and have allowed MOSH to move up significantly in both the 50's and 60's by comparison. Fired Shouldabeena. He brings Gold medal smack talk but his Golds are mostly in those Coasters. Clearly he is having a great influence. I sent him a link to a friends new resturant here in town and we may not see him for some time to come.
We need to maybe rethink this 50's - 70's thing. Seems the more you plan the more he spends. Also he had a 10X lead on me in the 70's when you tried to throw me in. Couldn't we both just try to beat Skinsfan?

  • It's time to get serious men. This next year won't be pretty.
There are quite a few sets where we sit just outside of the top three and it's only a matter of time.

More importantly, only 28 more days until the first televised Bears Pre-season game!
    Long live Pro-Football!

    Jeremy
  • Jeremy,
Does he pay you to talk smack on his behalf or does he get that service for free??
How can next year not be pretty? He already owns 70% of the Gold.
It has made me feel like a sled dog in the back of the line. The scenery in front of me doesn't change at all. I'm always looking up at MOSH.
How many sets can he be just outside the top 3 on when he is always in first?
No sweat. Bring it on. He's kicked my tush before. How much worse can this time be???
Dav is the one that will be eating dirt in third. That sled dog view must be worse than mine.
