World Series of Grading!

First, I'd like to say thanks to PCGS for putting on the World Series of Grading. It was quite the experience. EVP called me today and said that I had won the collector division. That was great news and a source of pride to me personally. There's a monetary prize involved, but the title is enough for me. I'm going to ask PCGS to donate the $5,000 directly to the Young Numismatist program of the ANA.
I feel it's important to the hobby to encourage and teach others. This is one reason I participate in the Set Registry program. It sometimes costs collectors dearly, both in money and aggravation, to open their sets to the world. But in the end it's worth it. What is the hobby without sharing the sets, the coins, the passion?
So, in a way, I hope to give back to others some of the enjoyment I've received. Thanks again, PCGS.

Awesome. As a former YN I know how much the YN programs and the YNs in the long run will appreciate a donation like this. They are the future of the hobby! Thank you

What a great thing to do TDN. That's really going to help out the YNs. Now just make sure you get your pic in the mag handing over a big check to the ANA President!

Bruce, I second this fellow member's comment. I found out personally, quite a while back, that you are a special person.
I am not only proud of you but honored to know such a quality human being. Congrats and

<< <i>That was a classy move to donate the prize money. Not trying to start nothing but I would think you should be classified as a dealer and not allowed to compete in the collector division? From what I have read on this forum you are a big time invester in Legend and are pretty much one of the crew. mike >>
Always, always sour grapes fly in from someone. Just because TDN is visible here certainly it does not mean he is a dealer. Heck I bet some of the others were and are dealers that were in the collector division.
Ken
It does raise an interesting question. Back when Ray Merena was running the financial side of Bowers, was he a dealer? I suspect the collectors would say yes and the dealers would say no. Even if you are employed by a firm [which I am not], unless you are actively buying and selling IMO you're not a 'dealer' in the classification of the World Series of Grading.
I just wanted to make a point that I know is true. Yourself being visible puts you under the gun but others that are not visible skate right through. Maybe PCGS should have had a Major Dealer section and a section for all others. Certainly, I would think, a regional dealer probably is not on the par with the Major National Dealers when it comes to grading knowledge.

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

Sorry Ken and TDN no sour grapes on my part and as I said before I was not trying to start nothing- just what I have read on this forum over the years I had TDN classified as a dealer in my eye's... I guess I was wrong and as I said before that was a classy move on the part of TDN to donate his prize money. mike
