I agree with you, it would have been interesting to see the top dealer and collector spar-off if anyone other than TDN had won----------------------------BigE
At any rate, I shall repeat what I said on the Registry forum--this is a great accomplishment. I am totally impressed, but not surprized by this. In my time on this forum (going on two years) TDN has consistently written some of the most intelligent and worthwhile posts to read.
My congratulations go out to him, and to all the others who qualified and took part in the competition.
I hate to open this topic. In order to be a good grader (consistency and have ability to identify NG coins), it is different from being a successful dealer. If I have to choose of the two now, I will pick the later
TDN---WOW---congrats---Thanks for showing there are still generous individuals out there concerned for others before themselves. I admire you for your exemplary behavior. Now for the "real" reason I'm writing-----Ya see I have this old beat up car that doesn't work too good and I have to go to school uphill everyday and go home uphill too. I can't afford new shoes, have to work nights to get enough to eat----Ummm, you see, would you contribute to my education fund c/o my bank for just a couple of thou? TIa------ LOL
Good job TDN. Btw, I understand that PCGS put some very primo ($$$) coins into the contest. I thought it was a great promotion and I hope it becomes an annual thing.
“Not trying to start nothing but I would think you should be classified as a dealer and not allowed to compete in the collector division”
Darktone,
Everyone here knows TDN is not a real dealer because dealers can’t gade ! I mean look at the millions of coins for sale that are graded to high. Even slabbed coins have notes on them that say under-graded. What happens if you take your coins to a dealer, the grades are always at least two grades to low, even slabbed coins you take to a dealer are over-graded. I think this clears this up once and for all, TDN could not be a dealer and win this contest!
There were indeed some great coins in the test. I enjoyed the experience immensely. I don't know the final scores, but make no mistake - Jim Halperin can grade circles around me any day of the week....
Let me add my congratulations to the list TDN and kudos to everyone who had the kahonies to put it on the line and take the test. I was skeptical about this whole idea at first but it seems like it was a success and a good thing for the hobby.
Great job Bruce....It was interesting to me how all the scores came in 5 dealers all above the top collector..those coins looked real tough..I would not have had the guts to have my grades posted..nice touch with the yn's you are a first class guy Bruce... Bruce Scher

I'm certain you will be responsible for educating and increasing enthusiasm for coin collecting
for many future numismatists.

TDN's accountant must also be relieved as TDN probably avoided going into a higher tax bracket!
