A challenge to forum members - I challenge each of us to be better participants here, in whatever wa

This challenge is issued to any forum member (myself included) who sometimes finds it easier to...... make fun of, insult, flame or disparage others, than to take the time to help or inform them, answer their questions, steer them in the right direction, etc. This applies, whether or not those "others" be fellow-forum members, Ebayer's, fellow collectors or dealers.
In case anyone reading this is wondering if (or thinking that) I am picking on them, in particular, I am not. This challenge is based upon far-too-many instances I have witnessed, where others have been treated harshly and unfairly. In many, if not most cases, it was because someone apparently found it easier or more enjoyable to insult them, than to take the time to discuss, help, educate, clarify, etc.
I challenge each of us to be better participants here, in whatever ways we can.
I expect to catch some flack for this, but that's ok - I think it's worth the downside.

Aw, c'mon Mark it's like watching a train wreck -- granted some people get hurt, but it is fascinating!

Hey Coinguy, you're starting to sound like a darksider.
I say we lynch him
Well, except for the Open Forum, of course

Couldn't agree more, Mark. If I don't have something constructive to say, I usually don't say anything.

Tonight, as I kneel on my Carver prayer rug, I shall humbly petition The Almighty to smile upon your request. In anticipation of this request not being granted, let me say that your coin grading skills are on par with John Ashcroft's ability to write a good song.

Better add a winky. Easy to get in troube around here.

As usual, your very diplomatic point was right on the money. I agree with you, although Michael (FrattLaw) makes a good point; it is interesting to watch the build up and aftermath of a train wreck.

I mean come on, there are those here that continuously post the most rediculous, mundane, self serving topics which appear to be posted for no other reason than to see their name on page 1.

Mark only wishes he could be as evil as I am! It's a little known fact that upon graduation from law school, your soul is taken from you, placed into a little jar and banished to some level of Dante's H*ll reserved for especially for attorneys. Some how Mark escaped this and remains the Boy Scout he always has been!

It's not little known.

And if no one replied to such threads, they wouldn't stay on page 1. That would be nice.
To the original point, I do agree, and invite anyone to call me on it when I fail to behave honorably here.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I believe I know what brought this on, and if I am wrong, please correct me. But as an individual who has been on this board for some time, and has several hundred eBay transactions under his belt, he should know better than to obviously violate eBay's terms of service in a manner that has been discussed here many times. I simply have a hard time buying that he didn't know it was a violation.
<< <i>Mark, sometimes I think you are a little too diplomatic....I believe I know what brought this on, and if I am wrong, please correct me... >>
Eric, I freely admit that I try to be diplomatic in (most of) my posts here. However, the impetus for this thread truly was a compilation of MANY things I have seen written by MANY forum members in MANY threads. I have regretted (not many but) a few things I have said here, too.
In the particular thread I pointed out, the individual would probably have not taken as much heat if he had jumped in and said that was his auction and he did not know it was a violation. The fact that he was posting to other threads at the same time looked suspicious to me.

Mark thanks for reminding the populace AGAIN.

Are you asking for people from refraining from calling somebody an assh0le anymore?
One of my favoritve threads was when a guy posted his coins asking questions about them as to their grade and value.
Then some of the villagers decided it was scam and lit the torches (He never offered to sell any, but some forum members started making offers to buy them - trying to get a rip on some nice coins from an unsuspecting newbie)
JadeRareCoin took the time to meet with him and provided a professional evaluation, and he had some very nice gold coins.
Some of the villagers spend too much time in the village and get all confused when outsiders come in to their world.

I sure hope you aren't talking about me. I never posted to that thread.
The touble is everytime I warn someone that they should be cautious with the money in my coin budget when it comes to very high priced moderns, they jump down my throat. I prefer to answer history and collector advice questions (but not about prices), but we don't get many of those around here.

Please I am begging you. Relax a little.
Sometimes the folks here get way toooooo serious, this is a general statement. More Relaxation would help all concerned. Heck I thought that is what we came here for. Relaxation and tapping the knowledge of others. Oh yea, and to help if we can.

I vote for us all contributing to maintain the U.S Coin Forum to some of the highest standards of personal consideration and assistance to others.
Constructive numismatic criticism is OK, but personal attacks are low-lass blows which should be posted on the Open Forum.
Mark, Thanks for raising the issue and also hopefully for raising the level of our discussion on this Forum
