I don't think Hall was out of line, and I think some of you guys are complaining just to complain. Get back to fighting over coins, and see if you get booted or not, or boot yourselves.

I would probably have not been as tolerant as Hall, and would have booted a few mean-spirited people off well before now. Some of the attacks on others was just completely wrong, as well as some of the comments about PCGS. There was nothing constructive for PCGS or any member of this board to be gained by the posts.

Don't confuse negativity with being mean-spirited. They are totally separate ideas.

Its truly amazing how some of you just don't get it. What is being said originally, and reiterated just before by HRH is if your totally out of line, bashing, and acting like I know some of you consistently do...you'll get booted!!

Frankly, I hope you do and I agree and hope the few of you who are low enough to troll and constantly take anti-PCGS views and flaming diatribes about how bad PCGS is, just get booted or do your duty on another board(s).
PCGS is not perfect nor are they totally blameless for anything. But then so is your spouse not perfect, nor your best friend or business partner and so on. I doubt you'd rant daily on them the way you so easily rant on the boards.

Evidently, you know which board is the most "in" coinboard, and which holds the most clout. Your kind is of no good to this board at all. Your of no help to the hundreds of avid collectors. Construcutive crisitism is one thing, everything else including stuff going on last few weeks is stupid and unbecoming.

I agree with the many that posted over the months how they've learnt and enjoy the hobby so much more with these boards. Many new friends, deals, discussion and debates have been done and happenned on these super boards.
Clankeye's pieces are priceless, Monday's are never the same for me and so many others....and so on.
Most of us have no need for the constant bickering of those few, so lets be done with it.

I predict I know who will reply with counterstrikes and further flames, I doubt I will reply as I usually ignore the temptation. Discussing a certain luster on a Gem Merc or admiring the strike of another is one hundred times more satisfying than wasting time replying and spreading the flames on mean intentioned statements.

    Have a Super Weekend all!

The message boards will censor any mean-spirited, one-sided criticism of PCGS and we will boot members that consistently bag on PCGS.
    .
This is long overdue and I applaude David Hall for taking this action. For me, it gets old seeing the same people crying over the same thing day after day! If the person can't get satisfaction at PCGS, STOP using them and go across the street to where you perceive you're getting satisfied.

  • Ahhhh Censorship.........In a country that is on the verge of going to WAR, we bring censorship to this board.

So many champions ( Lincoln, Washington, King, The Kennedy's, My Air Force Daughter, ) of freedom, have died, so that we can remove censorship, and live free. Even our forefathers said something about freedom of speech, I believe. Certainly, control is necessary, but censorship?

Have we gone backwards, since HomeRun, became King? Lord I hope not, but I think so.

HomeRun, the way I see it, is that your "dealer Friends" complained? Hmmm We can't have that now can we?

I own more PCGS plastic, than any other Plastic. I have spent money that I didn't have on your plastic. But I survived! I think that if you don't like my words, and give me the boot, I will survive!

I know that if PCGS and or it's officers provide shoddy product and or information, I shall protest, and protest loudly. And I will survive!

Mr. Homerun, all of your threads, have touched my sensibilities. mostly negatively. But then very few serfs, ever loved the King. If you choose to kick me off your free Board, that promotes your coins, sevice and future, then so be it. I will survive.

David, I believe that you need to check with your PR office more often. You are doing more to run your company in the ground, with your statements on this board. Better to leave your Directive announcements to the Pros, Carol J. for example!

Dog, there exceptions to the free speech rule. It's NOT absolute. Look up a little CON law on the net. Yelling "fire" in a movie theater is not protected free speech. "Fighting words" that are so mean and cruel that a normal person would not be able to restrain themselves -- NOT protected. Then we have slander, libel, etc.

I think PCGS is exercising it's right to protect free speech, and weed out the "Fighting Words", slanderous statements, and the written libel.

The whole thing is ultra-American, and most of you only stand on one side of it.

I'm with Mr. Hall on this. This is a Collector's Universe Forum.

If someone wants to use the site to say something to the effect of "PCGS sucks," without explaining why he / she is frustrated and what changes are recommended, Mr. Hall doesn't need that.

In my business, I do not put up with this sort of thing for one minute. Last year, a client was giving me a hard time because after paying me five months late on a billing, he got mad when I told him that he would pay me up front if he wanted to continue using me as his accountant. I cut the conversation short, told him to find another accountant and sent him his file that same day.

I have at times been very critical of PCGS and of Mr. Hall personally, but I have always stated why I felt this way and recommended changes to improve the situation. I have not been kicked off this forum.

I don't care how much freedom you think you have. There is always a degree of censorship as long as you are part of a community. You are always responsible for your actions. If you yell 'fire' in a crowded theater, expect to either do some time in the "big house," be fined, or both.

Another example is in a recent thread, someone flamed a dealer, claiming he was ripped-off. It turns out that I believe the original poster did not know how business was conducted and stuck his foot in it. Before you go bungee jumping, make sure that your cord is the right length and test it to make sure it works. Sorry, reality can be scary.

If you want to live in a world without any censorship, either live on an island by yourself, or you can dream on. I am sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but this is reality. I have been on the wrong side of a rifle, have been hauled off the street into detention, where I was screamed at by Security Police that I was a spy, and have seen a number of things that most people don't even hear about, let alone experience. I am a bit more circumspect than most people.

Does this new policy now mean that a PCGS authorized dealer can tell new collectors that a coin that is common as dirt that is in a PCGS MS or PR 69 or 70 holder is worth many thousands of dollars and that NO ONE can dispute that without censorship fear or being banned from this site?

Good products can be used for unethical purposes by dishonest people.

To paraphase Louis B. Mayer, if that is the case, this forum won't be worth the paper is it is written upon.

That's right Billjones. Many MS-70's are common as dirt and as such no one should collect,
deal, or invest in any coin which is MS-70. Indeed, no one should even buy a coin in a series
with an MS-70 represented. Since we aren't collecting such coins there is no reason to quote
prices for them, state opinions about them, or slab them. As is typically the case your logic is
    impeccable.

<< <i> It has gotten so bad that numerous PCGS dealers have asked us why we allow message
board posts that unfairly criticize the product they sell and support. And numerous collectors
have asked us why we allow message board posts to unfairly criticize the coins they love and
the grading services they support. >>

It seems highly unlikely you'll read this post either since there is no evidence that you read any-
one else's posts, but others might appreciate it.

(I do not mean to put any words in Homerunhall's mouth or ascribe any meaning he didn't intend)
(Which, of coure, makes Billjones' question a valid one.)(...and as usual he had to slam all mod-
erns to even ask the question.)

<< <i>Dorkkarl - I must take issue with you on the matter of how influential this Forum has become.

We do play a significant role in expressing the collecting habits of the knowledgable in the hobby.

Our views, Likes and dislikes resonate thru the industry like ripples on a pound. Perhaps because

of the impact, what is said and how it is said on the Forum is so important to PCGS. I do not believe

that we will have any attempt to stiffle our creativeness or our outspokeness. The only thing that

will change is the reduction in the number of threads and replys that are intended to be unduly

    disrespectful, distastful or negative,

in such a continuous manner as to be destructive with no purpose

other then to harm , damage and destroy. Good people have been harmed, good people have been

chased away and people without the ability to defend themselves adequately, have become punching

bags for people who gained pleasure from inflicting pain and suffering.

This Forum is a wellspring of knowledge and creativity. It teaches both the newbies and the advanced

collector, the dealers and even the parent company of this website. This Forum and its members are

indeed unique and sometimes the system must be fine tuned to keep it running in its creative path. >>

I have to go with the voices of reason here, i.e. Askari, Kranky, and Lucy (make mine Strawberry!). I've been here for a couple of years mainly as a lurker. I've seen the best and the worst from this forum and my take is this:

I always read threads from certain members because I know them to have a level of professionalism and maturity (or immaturity, when I'm in a light mood) that I can count on.

I never read threads from certain members because I know that 95% of their posts are inflammatory, derogatory to other members, etc.

And I don't think that the powers that be will abuse this policy which has always been in place, yet seldom enforced.

The purpose of this forum is for its members to have a gathering place to exchange ideas, educate, entertain. Sure, we can air our concerns, but in a mature and constructive manner. This isn't the place to just b**ch for the sake of b**ching. I don't enjoy it and it's a waste of our time.

I have confidence in Mr. Hall, Carol and all who make this endeavor possible.

I think I missed this thread the first time around in March.

For me, I will try to be honost in my thoughts, not try to personally hurt any individuals, and If I have an "issue" with something that I think needs to be looked at in terms of the hobby or buisness of coin collecting I will say how I feel. If sometimes someone disagrees with you or me in a post, it should not automaticly assumed to be a "bash" thread just because you don't like it or agree with it.

I don't think legitimate criticism is something that will get you into trouble. It's the unrelenting bashing of slabs and PCGS that will get you booted. How many here can say that they have not benefited greatly as a result of this forum? PCGS is footing the bill for a free educational and socializing place for coin collectors. If you owned a business that was really trying to produce quality merchanidise, would you want people hanging around in the store telling everyone what a crummy place it was? image The idea of letting this happen is ludicrous. Especially when some of the most knowledgeable collectors in coins today have most of their coins in PCGS slabs. This is great place, but PCGS has a right to protect themselves against abuse like anyone else. mdwoods
