I would buy one real nice scarce date Mercury dime for my registry set in 65FB or 66FB because I have yet to be able to break into that combination of quality and scarcity.
I don' know. But based on my current quandry (looking for a new strategy on collecting), I am thinking about saving that $1000 (which I already have most of) and keep saving until I can afford a nice Gobrect Dollar. I don't know if this is what I will end up with, but it's what I currently have in mind.
I would by proof seated dimes as they represent the best value, especially for the rarity that they have. Second choice would be circulated key date type coins between fine and extra fine. Third choice would be PROBLEM FREE draped bust half and large cents in fine or better.
And all of the above should be certified coins (PCGS, NGC, ANACS, preferred).
ok, take out your adding machines... 85,86 liberty head nickel in vg+,bust quarter original common date large size in F15, bust half dime(same) liberty head nickel in MS63, oregon trail, Illinois commem, MS63. Howd I do?
For that $, the nicest looking, highest graded FH SLQ or Barber Quarter I could find. These coins are a bargain right now. Either coin would probably grade MS 65 & I'd get some change with the SLQ.
"Vou invadir o Nordeste, "Seu cabra da peste, "Sou Mangueira......."
I would buy a nice Antietam commemorative in 64 or 65, and a nice Gettysburg in 64. Not for any investment potential. Just because I want to have them.
Oh, yeah... that's beautiful zenny. I'd see a coin like that, and my $1000 plan would be out the window. I'd buy that. In this case, I've always liked Elgin's too.
original and problem free key dates, they hold their valve, even in slow times, and if you have to sell, most of the time you can recoupe most of your money. remember common coins are just that......commom.

As for me I would buy the nearest hoard of original Lincoln cent BU rolls I could get my hands on and search them for varieties...why? Because I want to.
I need about four dates to finish my Washington Quarter set . I would buy them in the highest MS grade that would get me all of them with the $1000. I would also like a 17?? dated coin.
