I still miss him every day! I know Eric would have enjoyed seeing this tonight:
I'm not very active on the forum anymore, but I thought it would be nice to start a thread for anyone who follows the NBA. I think there are a few of you out here!

I had already started this one a few months back but I'm cool with making the switch to this one.
Little Toe would have spent all day telling me how the C's are going to destroy the Knicks on the night they hang banner #18 and they did just that.
The scariest part for opposing teams is Jayson Tatum spent his time since the Olympics ended tweaking his 3pt shot and then hits 8-11 threes in G1. We'll see if that form holds up or if he reverts back to his older form soon enough.

They were at 61% (29/47) when Horford tied that NBA record (most made threes in game/team) with like 9mins to left in the game. then the starters got pulled and the bench proceeded to miss the next 13 three attempts trying to break the record lol.

Only watched the first half of the LA/MIN game but the Lakers actually looked pretty good w/AD having a monster game. I see the Wolves made a late comeback but for the most part, didn't look like the same team that just came off of a pretty good playoff run.
Did see the moment when the James family entered the game together though and a couple times Lebron & son tried running a two man game off to one side of the halfcourt but both times didn't amount to anything. G League games don't start for another 2-3 weeks so its going to be interesting to see if Bronny gets sent there at that time or not.

GSW blows out the Blazers in Portland 139 to 104.
The Warriors have a deep roster full of players that can run, shoot and defend, including younger players who have boundless energy. Tonight they ran the Blazers into the ground and out of the gym.
The Dubs have a chance of getting off to a real strong start this year, their schedule over the next couple weeks just got a little bit easier with Kawhi likely being out for the Clippers on Sunday and with DeJounte Murray now missing both NO/GS games next week after breaking his hand.
That November 6th game where GS comes to Boston should be fun, really looking forward to that one.

I have not devoted much time to the rosters of NBA teams for the 2024-2025 season yet.
As the regular season gets underway I will watch and learn. One thing that was apparent in 2023-2024 and that will likely continue in 2024-2025 is that the talent level in the league continues to rise with an influx of new players from across the globe. With this comes better and better rosters for all teams, thus more competitive play, thus more teams having a legitimate shot at qualifying for the playoffs and having a good chance to make a deep run in the playoffs.
As the game becomes more and more global I would expect that the NBA will expand by adding new franchises, some of which will be based outside of the USA and Canada.

It could have been even more but credit the Wizards perimeter defense for playing as well as they did, (a phrase that you'll likely never read again😉) Washington kept it close for most of the first half and certainly put up as good a fight as NY just gave them.
I only caught the box score but looks like Luka won the first battle for the state of Texas in 24/25 over Wemby. I've been reading all summer where Dubs fans over on HoopsRumors just killing Klay now that he gone and he couldn't have had a better start to his Mavs career than his 22 w/6-10 from three.

i was out tonight and caught the Boston-Detroit score in the 2nd Q..........Celtics were up 23
i thought they would win by 50
later on i saw the score again and with a few mins left in the game the Pistons were up 6
then Boston came back and won

Boston didn't play any defense until Detroit took that 6pt lead with roughly 5mins left in the game, they really had no business winning after blowing that lead. Jrue had been scoreless up until that point and knocked down b2b threes to tie the game late before the C's took over at the end but the Pistons played their asses off.

I caught the GS/LAC live and Steph had a pretty rough night. First he rolls his ankle untouched out by the 3pt line, spends about 20mins stretching it out while on the bench, then seconds after getting back into the game he rolled it again.
The Clippers actually looked like a well rounded team with Harden directing the offense, I thought for sure that they'd be a hot mess right now after losing George & Westbrook during the offseason and Kawhi to injury.

Boston had an easier time tonight than the Cavs but still both 4-0 to start the season!

Boston didn't have an easy night at all. Milwaukee may have lost to the Nets the night before but last night they led for most of the game before the Celtics finally went on a run late in the 3rd to finally get and hold the lead. Covering Giannis and Dame were both huge problems with both finishing with at least 30pts.
Congrats on the 4-0 though, these two meet up on 11/19 when the Cavs come to town. That should be a fun game, hopefully both teams are as healthy as possible.

That Boston/Indy game ran the entire gamut of emotions. The C's were getting their ass kicked all night with the Pacers up 21 early in the 4th, then that lead got whittled down to 12 with roughly 2:30 left in the game and Boston goes on a 14-2 run to put it into OT. Pascal Siakam drains a 3 with 7 seconds left in OT to go up 135-132 and Jaylen Brown airballs an attempt to put it into double OT. This was definitely Indiana's revenge game for getting swept in the playoffs.

Bronny James got his first 2 points in the NBA at the end of the 4th qtr during garbage time.

Boston really deserved to take an L for that game, Indiana was giving them an ass whooping for that first 44-45mins of the game before the C's late comeback to get it into OT. I haven't checked to see the actual number but Boston's blown layups at/near the rim had to have been at least 25 with no exaggeration and Brown was 1-10 from three before airballing that .last attempt to try tying it again.
The media hype train has been praising the Celtics since they played so well on opening ring night but these last three games (Detroit/Milwaukee/Indiana) they've played pretty subpar. In all three it took late great comebacks for them to get back into the game and their luck ran out tonight after being able to win those other two games.

It wasn't easy but the Cavs go 7-0 with a 114 - 113 win over the Bucks. They were down 30 - 17 in the first quarter.

That Bucks team is an absolute train wreck right now and it may end up causing Giannis to want to leave in their near future. With how quick the owners got rid of their previous head coach (43 games into his first season) last season, you got to think that Doc's job is on the line right now.

These Points Differentials are all likely to drop off but there are four teams that are beating teams at an historic rate right now.
Here are the top five Points Differential seasons in NBA history:
1. 1970-71 Milwaukee: +12.58
2. 2016-17 Golden State Warriors: +11.96
3. 1995-96 Chicago Bulls: +11.94
4. 1971-72 LA Lakers: +10.88
5. 2023-24 Boston Celtics: +11.34

There's obviously still a long way to go till season's end but its going to be interesting to see how this PD ranking holds up. What's surprising is the Dubs haven't had Steph for half of their 6 games, the Cavs have been without a starter in Max Strus for all 7 and Tingus Pingus has missed every C's game so far too. GS is at Boston on Wednesday night which should be fun.

and Doc Rivers is such a has-been HC now......no idea why teams still hire him

Hiring Doc was basically a desperation move by the Bucks. Those great Celtics teams that he coached had current Knicks HC Tom Thibodeau running his defense at the time and Doc's "reputation" was made during those years. They got real old real fast and their draft pick cupboard is pretty bare right now.
That Thunders defense has been incredible so far.
2024-25 Thunder:
Blocks per game 13.3
Steals per game 8.0
NBA Records for both:
Steals: 1977-78 Suns 12.9 per game
Blocks: 1985-96 Bullets 8.7 per game
I forgot to mention above that their big FA signing this past offseason, Isaiah Hartenstein, has missed all of their games so far. OKC-BOS would make for one hell of a Finals matchup.

The GSW play Washington, Boston, Cleveland, OKC and Dallas in the next 8 days. The first 4 games are on the road and the Dallas game is a home game.
Those games should be very fun to watch.
