Labor Day 2024...Post something you worked hard to own
I know, we all work hard for everything we own. But in honor of Labor Day 2024, post one piece you worked your tail off to put into your collection. Be it expensive or just really hard to find, let us know what you're proud of from your hard work!
This Bolen piece is one I had admired since I began collecting tokens and medals. It's an iconic piece of America's favorite pastime, baseball. They don't come around very often, and they've become quite expensive as exonumia has caught up with the rest of the coin market. When I saw this example, I knew I had to put my hard work to good use.

It's just electric under lights, and virtually mark free. Happy Labor Day, folks!

I seem to remember another thread with this same title. Anyone want to post that link here?

This coin was hardest to find and the highest I ever paid for a coin so I guess it’s the one I worked the hardest for.

I can’t post pics of my house and car on this forum, although those are the things I’ve worked hardest for. here is an 1863 w/L proof at PF64BN.

I did some work for my local coin shop by sorting coins in my free time over the summer. Here's one of the coins I got as a reward that I haven't shown yet:

From mowing grass in summer and shoveling driveways in winter in the NE this was a big deal to a 13 year old in 1981!

As far as coins go, this one

I have never seen such a beautiful Bust Dime, let alone a rare 1809! This one must have a great story to go with it.
Majestic! So powerful and image without the lettering!

Way cool and springfield is up the street from me. Nice token 👍
I knew the collector who owned this piece. When he was diagnosed to be terminally ill, I had to respect the family's feelings. After he passed I didn't think that it was out of line to ask where they consigned his collection to an auction. It was the late Joe Levine, and I was able to find the piece in the catalog. I was fortunate enough to win it in that auction.
I am not sure how many salamander tokens there are. I think the number is around 15. This is probably the only instance when where the "Good for a scent" design is upstaged by the opposite side.
This is my most valuable coin. It was also the last coin I needed to complete a U.S. type set from the half cent to the $20 gold piece. It was not cheap.
It took me quite a while to find the Springfield baseball token. I passed on a few pieces in white metal. Then I bid on one in a Joe Levine auction, and he failed to execute my bid. It sold for less than I bid. Then I got one and then another when I was deal. I sold one for a lot less than they go for today and kept this one.
@BillJones
Beautiful Merriam piece. As you may have noticed, this variety is also my avatar.
It's worth noting that it is NOT a salamander, but a toad. It certainly is lizard like, but if you study a Mint state example under glass and compare it to one of Merriam's toad embossing presses, you will find that the salamander is a misnomer.

Here's the closest I ever got to finding a toad, lizard or whatever Merriam press. Unfortunately Merriam never issued a lion token.

WOW. Your 1796 no stars is a moose, those have incredible demand and pieces that look like that just never show up, most collectors have to settle for VF with issues. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Thank you!
It's nice, but it's in "the wrong holder." It was once in an NGC MS-61 holder. Today it's in an MS-62 holder. There are not that many nice ones around so it's possible to trace them. Both Heritage and Stacks-Bowers have sold this piece at auction.
This one had been off the market for a decade when I won it in 2019. Only TWO finer at NGC (and NO, I have no issue with this brand of plastic).
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

For what it's worth, I take no issue with the 62 grade. It may be market graded to an extent, but I like it every bit as much as the PCGS 62 in coinfacts. It looks super fresh and super original, which to me, are much more important than having a one too many hits for the grade.

PCGS Coin Facts currently has it tied for #8 on their condition census list.
I spent many days this summer in sweltering antique shops hunting for western themed knickknacks. Hunting for this stuff feels much more like work than hunting for coins at a show does, but I enjoy it!

My first major coin purchase was this 1942 PR67 5c for $135. It was a massive sum for me at 15, but I had just started my first part time job and just got my first paycheck. Nowadays it doesn't seem like much, but it was to me at the time.

What is your point? These are yearly threads by me. It's nit like there is another thread someone should be responding to on the same subject
I like to start threads at this time of year to.get some discussion on the things we are passionate about. I also do this at the end of each year for favorite purchases summary.
