Praise for DeplorableDan

MWallaceMWallace Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭✭✭

@DeplorableDan
You and I have never met nor have we even PM'd on the board. By your post it's not hard to figure out that you are a well advanced collector. I want to praise you for that you treat novice, beginners, devoted, long time, etc. collectors as an equal to you. You are courteous to everyone and answer even the most basic questions for novice/beginner collectors with respect. I wish there was more people like you on this board. Many could learn numismatic etiquette from you.
Thank you so much for your contributions to this board.

I concur. With the temperament that he shows here why is he 'deplorable'? Oh well, he's The Dude.

We should all aspire to be more like Dan! I know I, for one, fall far short.

Are you trying to say @DeplorableDan isn't so deplorable? :o

I have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times and I tend to agree with the OP...not so deplorable after all. B)

    Bravo DD!

And shameless plug for any of you who were not aware, but Dan recently launched his own numismatic firm, Peak Rarities! You can check out some of the most deplorable coins out there at https://peakrarities.com/ -- some of them are incredibly jaw dropping.

And now, back to the praise. B)

Just 4 years ago, I came to the forum as an inexperienced novice looking to learn more. Here's a link to my very first thread.

You've come a long way, Dan! Enjoyed reading that link down memory lane.

  • OnastoneOnastone Posts: 4,015 ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree! Why Deplorable? Because Despicable Dan sounds too much like a movie character and Diabolical Dan might have been too strong, but had he come to our boards as Dazzling Dan or Deserving Dan, we might have thought he had a chip on his shoulder!! Deplorable Dan seems perfect- he can comment honorably or refute with the best of them, after all, he is deplorable~

DD is going to be a numismatic force moving forward (assuming he pursues this direction in his life) but the most striking thing is his age. Most of us on the forum are at least twice as old as him. DD is very articulate, passionate, he makes people feel comfortable, and he comes across as an all around good guy.

Dan is a great guy for sure, helping anyone out that asks.

I have nothing, but praise and admiration for him.

And unlike a couple of others, he has never looked like you hold a Pop-Tart upside down and proceed to complain they put the frosting on the wrong side.

AND, he's a young guy to have such overall balance and numismatic wisdom. Us old guys wish we were as sharp as he is at that age.

Wow, I'm not sure what prompted this but thank you @MWallace! I am flattered, honored even, to see that many of you hold my name in such high regard.

hey the fact that you are not sure what prompted this says much!
I concur with all the flattery here, and you rightfully deserve it.
    Be well, stay you!

I met Dan in person for the first time at Winter FUN 2023, and I was shocked he did not look like his photo/avatar. He then told me the source.
