My addiction to Liberty Seated Quarters

I recently completed a 108 coin set of Liberty Seated Quarters after falling just short of completion twice in the last ten years. I checked my files, and I was stunned to find out that I've owned 441 different certified LSQs in the last ten years! Thought it would be fun to post some of the coins I've owned one year at a time starting with 1838. I'll go in order and try to post daily. Please post your examples.

PCGS AU58 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2017.
PCGS VF25 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2019.
PCGS XF45 CAC - purchased from Liz Coggan in 2022, the current coin in my set.
Wish I still owned the AU58!

@Crepidodera I like the VF25 CAC. There's a lot to like in all of those coins.
This should be an exciting thread!
Beautiful, scarce coins!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Great idea! How did you pick your current set coins while selling the previous ones? Or did you restart the series every time?
I had to comment here ... counting for vacations, that's almost one per week ... for 10 years!

I sold my two previous sets in 2018 and 2020 and started over. When I started over, I would repurchase coins that I had sold to friends as a start, usually 25-30 coins.
Yes, I'll admit my obsession, I'm impatient and probably suffer from OCD.

Here’s the ones in my circulated type set

Very nice @Mr_Spud!
Awesome! I'll be a frequent poster to the thread. I originally had my 114 piece set in a Dansco but started certifying them last year to make them easier to sell when my kids inherit them. I down sized to a 108 piece set to match the registry and I'm currently in 7th place. I never liked some of the Dansco varieties anyway, like the 1853/4 and 1854 huge O. I did keep the 73 closed 3 and 42-o sm date, so I guess I really have a 110 piece set. My current goal is to have everything in the VF20-AU50 range. I still have 4 coins to upgrade. 2 details and two fine.
Here's one of the best coins in the set. VF25
Don, that's an awesome 1873-CC
My 1839 quarter is one of only three dates in my collection with a single specimen the last 10 years. Originally purchased from David Kahn in 2013.
PCGS VF30 - purchased from GFRC in 2014.
PCGS XF40 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2016.
PCGS XF45 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2017.
PCGS AU55 CAC - purchased from Mike Verhulst in 2021, the current coin in my set.
I see alot of crusty coin in here, wtg all 👍
Lovely coins!
Very choice and attractive!
Wonderful series with images that really capture the difficulty in finding SLQ dates with the look.

Evidence of some sort of addiction. I overdosed on 76-CC halves and quarters a few years ago.
I have just a few Liberty Seated quarters, and like them very much, would like to add some more. However, I also love and collect EAC's, and dimes, and, and, and....
Anyway, here is my small collection of LSQ's.
The 1857-S quarter I bought at the Norweb Collection sale in 1988. I am particularly fond of that one.
Nice assortment Eddi!
Here are some of the 1840 quarters I've owned.
PCGS XF40 - purchased from Vern Sebby in 2015.
PCGS AU55 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2017.
PCGS XF40 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2020.
NGC XF45 CAC - from a heritage auction in 2022, the current coin in my set.
A little late but here is my first few. Fun series. A lot of scarce and rare dates/mm. I like a few varieties but not for the premium some get. 1843-o Large O seem to be quite available. Maybe the premium is too high as they're not that scarce.

Very nice Freddie!
Here are some of the 1840-O DR quarters I've owned. I've always considered the listed mintage of 43,000 to be erroneous.
PCGS VF30 - from a Heritage auction in 2014.
PCGS VF20 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2019.
PCGS XF40 - purchased from DLRC in 2022.
PCGS AU55 CAC gold - from a GFRC auction in 2022, the current coin in my set.
Hey everyone who has not caught on. @Crepidodera is too nice so say anything, so I’ll take the heat by being the bad guy:
HIS INTENTION IS TO GO SLOWER, WITH HIM POSTING HIS WONDERFUL COLLECTION, PAST AND PRESENT, ONE YEAR AT A TIME. WE THEN POST OUR COINS ONLY FOR THOSE SAME YEARS AS HE DOES.
Thank you. Please hold your tomatoes, lol.
As of now, 1838, 1839, and 1840.

The original 38 in my set. VF25
This is the current 38. AU50
When I had it reholdered, this is the crappy trueview that seems to be the norm lately. I have no idea why they're producing these with poor lighting and a yellow tint. I have a handful of these "trueview" pics now and I'm getting really tired of paying for it.
The only 39 I've ever owned. VF35.
My current 40-o no drapery. VF35
Here are my current 1839-1840-1840-O quarters to add to the discussion.
1839 PCGS XF40
1840 - PCGS VF35 - purchased raw out of an old Library of Coins album in 2008.
1840-O ND - the single most common "O" mint Seated 25c. I've passed up dozens and dozens of XF-AU coins with dipped out surfaces, poor strikes, exorbitant prices, etc. Many of them came out of the ground when the New Orleans hoard was excavated... and I'm not paying big bucks for a common coin just because it has no drapery. Sooner or later, I will find an AU that I like, but it's VF30 (from Brian Greer) for now.
I was wondering how far this thread would get before Doug posted a coin that I scooped up when he sold it. Not too far!
Here's my other 1840-o WD example - PCGS XF45 - from GFRC
Great coins everyone! @rhedden, I'm sure there will be many more former coins posted.
1841 quarters today.
PCGS VF30 - purchased in 2014 from Hallmark Rare Coins.
PCGS XF40 CAC - originally purchased from Brian Greer in 2018, repurchased from GFRC IN 2021. An under-rated date.
PCGS VF35 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2015.
PCGS XF40 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2019.
PCGS XF45 CAC - purchased from GFRC in 2023, the current coin in my set. I like both of my old coins better than this example.
Please post your 1841 quarters.
Doug
Some 1840's Philadelphia quarters are sleepers and tough to find nice except maybe 1843, 1845, 1847. Surprisingly 1848 feels quite available however, 10-15 years ago it was not.
Here is my p62 DDR. It could easily been graded 58 with a little knee friction.
Nice 1841 quarter Freddie!
Gee you almost had a grading set going there.
@rhedden, you mention that "1840-O ND - the single most common "O" mint Seated 25c".
This is interesting. I always thought it is the other way around, i.e, the 1840-O With Drapery is the most common.
@Eddi, it may be that my brain has lumped the two 1840-o issues together. PCGS population report shows 348 pieces in all grades for the ND and 181 pieces for the WD, but it's hard to account for uncertified examples in low grade. One thing for certain is that you will find more 1840-O Seated quarters listed on Ebay on any given day than any other "O" mint. There are scads of them available in low grade and/or with problems.
I agree, the 40-o ND is far more common the the WD.
Please post your 1842 quarters.
PCGS AU50 CAC - purchased from the Carolina collection in 2014.
PCGS XF45 CAC - purchased from DLRC in 2022.
PCGS XF40 CAC - from an eBay auction in 2022, the current coin in my collection.
PCGS VF20 - purchased from GFRC in 2014.
PCGS VF35 CAC - purchased from Brian Greer in 2015.
PCGS XF45 CAC - from a Heritage auction in 2020.
PCGS AU55 CAC - from a DLRC auction in 2024, the current coin in my set.
I need to catch up.
Some more.
Caught up. Some are decent looking, some are ugly. All are lighter.
p62 current example. I am surprised this coin did not CAC as I feel it is better than 62. Fields are quiet and the reverse is outstanding. Maybe the smokey toning is holding the luster back too much but's it's ALL there.
I had an XF40 42-o LD from Brian Greer in 2011 but sold...no pictures either. Kind of of wished I had kept her. These pictures were shot by Todd and the second set I do not remember. The semi-reflective surfaces do not show.
Here's a few from my set, all VF35.
I've only got 2 holdered examples, seeing all these great coins raises a little regret that I sold a few memorable coins off.
