Vegas can’t make the line high enough to stop the money coming in on Tampa Bay.
    -9.5 is a gift.

New England has a laundry list of walking wounded
    Cleveland-2.5

Miami starts a 3rd string QB with banged up receivers. Do you really think Minnesota is going to screw this up?
    Minnesota -3

Placed my bets for the first time ever at a kiosk today.
Went okay except I accidentally bet on the Vikings twice.

    Ravens moneyline -245
    Chargers -4.5
    Vikings -3
    Bills -130 1st half points over 13.5

Will parlay KC/Dallas. Josh 1-3 vs. Mahomes, get pts.,home crowd factor w/KC. Good enough for me. Will ride out the "RushBoys" 1 more time. Have done well w/"RushBoys" since Rush has started.

    ....
I see both KC and Dallas winning today. This Buffalo vs KC game reminds me of some of the times during Brady's best years when he was suddenly being a bit overshadowed. The Patriots always seemed to let the contenders know that they were still in charge for now. And I just can't see the Eagles starting 6-0.

If not for deuces and my own senility I would have had a very rough Sunday.
I decided not to bet on Dallas +6.5 and instead took the Vikings because I liked what
deuces wrote about that game. And then like I said it was my first time betting at a kiosk
and I accidentally bet on the Vikings twice. B)
    Thanks deuces. My only problem..............
if your team is going to beat the Chiefs why couldn't they go ahead and score 14 points
in the first half so I could win my bet?

    I hate the Ravens.
They get up 20-10 on the Giants and then go to sleep for the rest of the game.
I believe deuces is going to be correct about Lamar, the luster is already fading on his game.
No way they should have lost that game.

Needed a lowly FG in all of the 4th quarter to cover the over,44 1/2, in the Atl/SF tilt. Neither team could score in the whole last 15 mins. after 42 pts. in the first 3 quarters. A bad beat for sure.

rant time early on a Monday morning, and i'm hoping you guys will read and chime in

my jimmy the greek specials have been so jimmy the geek unspecial that i was on the verge of hanging it up for the season after this past weekend. the only reason i'm even looking at lines again this morning is because i was given a gift last night to keep me in the game. i said earlier this year that it's going to be difficult to win money this season due to the parity involved, and thus far that has come to fruition..........at least for me it has. i'm only down about 56 bucks on the season, but it feels like 500 and could have easily been 300+ after last night. but it's not the money involved. i don't have a money tree growing in my backyard, but i'm fine where that's concerned. it's the fact that i'm not having fun because i'm having an incredibly difficult time differentiating about 80-90% of the teams this season. i will readily admit that i officially have zero feel. more than ever, i sense that any team can beat another on any given day.

look at what happened just yesterday: half of the games were won outright by the dogs. inexplicable happenings everywhere. Tom Brady and Co. couldn't beat the hapless Steelers. Aaron Rodgers and Co. got their asses kicked at home by the Jets. Lamar and Co. had complete control against the Giants in the second half and vomited all over themselves. the Falcons punked the Niners. on and on. no part of me foresaw any of that happening.

i started the week with a Chicago-Baltimore-Green Bay parlay. the Bears immediately snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Thursday night and blew that one up. i went back to the well and parlayed Baltimore-Green Bay. the Ravens gagged the game in the 4th quarter, and the Jets wiped the floor with Packers in their own house. so much for that brilliant idea. then last night i had Dallas plus 10.5 and the total under 48 in a teaser. not looking too good when it's Philly 20-0 in the second quarter. at that point i felt so out of touch with the league and my bets were so far off the mark that i was all but done. then, it's as if the gambling Gods said to me, "nah, we're not done with you yet, we want to keep you around so we can punish you some more." the Eagles miraculously scored 6 points the rest of the way and the Cowboys exhibited life on the offensive side of the ball. neither of which appeared remotely possible when it was 20-0 in the 2nd. like i said, an absolute gift.

but as i type this, i possess very little confidence. like, tonight i so desperately want to pound the Chargers. in my mind, there's no reason for them not to take care of business at home against a Broncos team that is simply not very good. but the moment i place a wager on that game, a part of me fully expects Russell Wilson to rise from the dead and go off for 350 & 4. but if i don't get involved? he'll probably play like he has all season -- like a guy closer to retirement than someone showing signs of returning to his old form. between my ears is not someplace anyone wants to be right now.

one final thought and i'd love input on this. how closely do you guys follow the lines from the moment they are released to kickoff? i do quite intently, and these are my findings. i'm not saying this is an exact science because making money in the handicapping world was never meant to be this easy. i really wish i had the time to document every game to see just how often this happens, but this is what i have observed thus far this season: if you follow the money flow, you'll end up on the right side of things more often than not. i can't tell you how many times i have plopped some coin on a team early in the week, then watched myself swim upstream as the line moves against me by a point........1.5 points.........2 points........and sometime 2+ points. and right on cue, the game plays out and i'm on the wrong side of the outcome. drives me absolutely crazy and makes me contemplate two thoughts:

    1) am i really that blind and dumb? wtf does everyone else see and know that i don't?

    2) is underhanded stuff regularly taking place behind the scenes?

    rant ovah.

Right now the Giants are 2.5 dogs against the Jaguars. That seems weird. Guess the Giants arent considered legit?

  • thisistheshowthisistheshow Posts: 9,386 ✭✭✭✭✭

Pretty big spreads in these games, so I don't know about covering, but I expect the Bucs to get right against the Panthers and for the Cowboys (with Dak back and the team coming off a loss) to beat the Lions.

Yesterday taught us a few things that have become apparent.
Tampa Bay just isn’t that good
The Browns are the Browns and always will be
Lamar Jackson is exactly who we thought he was
Kingsbury is in over his head
The Jets drafted young exciting players and are learning how to win
Brian Daboll is a candidate for coach of the year ( Sorry Sean McDermitt someone has always stole it from you every year)

Well I had a nice parlay going for $125 that would have paid over $400

I had a sweet looking parlay with Tampa Bay -2.5 and Green Bay +4.5, you know to play it safe incase of a made for TV special with Tom and Aaron driving down the field for a game winning FG

What could possibly go wrong 🤷‍♂️

Tonight I'm going to test my theory and go against it. This line opened at LAC -5. Money has come in on the Broncos and it is down to -4. Again my question is, WHY? Who out there honestly believes that the Broncos should be able to compete to the point of possibly winning this game? Certainly not me, certainly not anyone playing in the weekly picks contest here, and certainly not 95 out of 100 picks on average that I have seen anywhere else. The Broncos have sucked this year, their quarterback has sucked, he just had a surgical procedure a week ago for crying out loud, it is a road game against a division opponent that is a trendy pick to win it all, yet the line is shrinking.

    I. do. not. understand.

I'm telling everyone right now that if Denver wins this game outright tonight, I'm going to follow the money flow every week until the end of the season and ask no questions.

    you too brother

i swear if Denver wins this game tonight (and especially if they win by more than 3), i may lose my damn mind completely lol

    Galaxy- nice post.
First, I would advise since there are so many upsets taking place, forget the parlays and teasers for now.
If you win a bet, get paid. That's actually my motto when I go to the sports book. If I pick a winner, I'm getting paid.
No parlays for me even though the attendant helping me at the kiosk was pushing parlays. No thanks brother.
I've been picking around three or four games that I want to bet every week and put more money on the team I feel
most confident about, less on my second and third bets, and then less on my fourth bet if there is one.
I've been thinking about going with only 1 or 2 bets per week.
I bet on the Chargers Saturday at -4.5 and still think its a good bet, I don't care which way the line moves.
The Chiefs started out as -3.5 favorites against the Colts and the line moved to -6.5 by game time and the Colts beat them.

This betting thing is just something fun for me. I said earlier I allocated a fixed amount of money on it and if
I lose it then no big deal to me. I'm going to have fun win or lose. My work is enough stress for me, I'm not
going to stress over these games. I think you're taking it way too seriously. Put on those shades and relax. B)

Just looked at the lines for next weekend and since I have tomorrow off I will probably
be betting the Chiefs -3 against the niners but if it goes 3.5 probably the money line.
So how can Tampa be -10.5 against Carolina when the Steelers just beat them? :o

The line on the Score App started at 6 and now sits at 3.
Honestly the way Russ has played I’d rather put my money in a wood chipper than bet Denver. But maybe inside info is that his shoulder is finally healed and the defense with his help wins a game.

  • galaxy27galaxy27 Posts: 7,113 ✭✭✭✭✭

@perkdog well done on the parlay hit. i'm so cynical right now with line movements that i was just waiting for Denver to put that one away. you probably aged 10 years watching that game, but i'm glad the Chargers came through for you.

@darin point well taken on the parlays & teasers. i may heed your advice, but to this point i just haven't felt comfortable going at a single game against the spread. i either like to move the lines and totals the direction i want them to go, or eliminate the line altogether by taking the ML. hopefully i will start to get a better feel for these teams as the season progresses.

    A couple quick questions.
Do you have to be betting on games to enjoy them? It seems you may have some cynicism regarding the integrity of the games.
Do you have any interest in games that are not your teams or have bet on?
Do you ever take a week or 2 off when you hit a losing streak? I play golf, but every year mid to late summer I usually take a week off you to try to regain my focus.

#LetsGoSwitzerlandThe Man Who Does Not Read Has No Advantage Over the Man Who Cannot Read. The biggest obstacle to progress is a habit of “buying what we want and begging for what we need.”You get the Freedom you fight for and get the Oppression you deserve.

When last night's game went into OT, I watched Denver fold like a cheap tent and shut it off for 15 minutes to save my sanity.

Most of the games I bet are not even on TV, I enjoy the game that's on and feverishly check scores on cbssports

I enjoy watching either way, but make no mistake about it you can live bet nearly every play, I'm a sucker for a +450 odds on a drive resulting in a FG attempt lol, that is straight up action lol

Went to the casino to place my bets today, first stopped off at ultimate Texas hold em and
left the table up $145 thanks to the dealer putting 4 deuces on the board. :) The dealer
actually beat me with his ace kicker against my ten but still a very nice payoff.
Then went to place my bets and I'm already ahead thanks to Aaron Judge.

    -140 Aaron Judge hits + runs + RBI's over 1.5
    Chiefs money line -170
    Giants +3
    Titans -2.5

The Titans- Colts spread actually moved from -3 to -2.5 while I was looking at it on the Kiosk.
It was just the sign I needed to sucker me in. :#

I bet the Cardinals Monday or Tuesday?? Walking out of the casino after a losing session of hold ‘em was tired. Last night I was convinced I made a mistake as I thought the Saints would win outright. Maybe I should wake up at 1 am and make all my picks.

not to belabor my quasi conspiracy theory with line movements, but last night's game opened @ AZ -1 at the beginning of the week and by kickoff it had grown to -2.5. being on the right side of the money flow was a winning proposition yet again.

also want to point out that the Broncos-Jets game has moved four points this week. Denver opened @ -3 and now the Jets are favored by a point.

So I bet the moneyline on the Chiefs vs. 49'ers, and since then the niner's
have gotten Christian McCaffrey and have said Joey Bosa and Trent Williams should return for this game.
So now I'm halfway expecting a 28 year old time traveling Joe Montana to show up and QB for them.

Thinking of betting on TCU over K-State tomorrow.

Ouch, he missed out on a nice payday.

I took Oklahoma State +185 before the game started so collected a nice win.
Took TCU over K-State -170 moneyline and won that also.
I think OK State was down 17 and I know TCU was down 18 so I got great comebacks both games.

    couple of thoughts

    1) i sincerely hope that no one here made the foolish decision to bet on the Bucs in any form or fashion. i already had my duds on and was prepared to stroll into the profitable club, high-five you guys and start scouring the place for hotties.

    2) when i get really drunk on a Saturday night, why can't i do something seemingly stupid like plop 200$ on Carolina to win outright and wake up with a $1050 hangover? why does someone always find me naked in the middle of the road with money riding on a group of posers like the Buccaneers?

hell it's a minor miracle i didn't bet on the Packers too

    Down 240 for the weekend

Pick 6 against Alabama and TOMPA getting embarrassed lost it all for me

Down about 1100 for the season, pitiful and it's just not even funny

I don't mind losing but I'd like to make it interesting and win sometime lol

Small Potatoes compared to Mattress Mack.
