Celebrities who collect coins

I remember thinking it was so cool that Buddy Ebsen, (Jed Clampett) was a huge large cent afficianado years back. Are there other celebrities that you know of who have or had a passion for coin collecting?

I think that it would be great to have a get together with Kareem for a:
a. coin collecting show and tell session;
b. basketball (I played in high school and college and Kareem was one of my favorite players) story telling session;
c. listening to jazz session; and
d. talk about life session.
Ditto for a get together with Jed Clampett (loved the Beverly Hillbillies, especially granny).
Pass on a get together with Radar (as I understand he is unpleasant).
I don't know if you call him a celebrity but Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars, has a nice coin collection.

Rob Gronkowski's stolen coins found thanks to PCGS, network

.
.
A pair of graded Proof Morgan Dollars stolen from New England Patriots’ star Rob Gronkowski’s home during the Super Bowl were found quickly thanks to the their certification numbers that come with their slabbing.
Professional Coin Grading Service, aka PCGS, which is a sister company of Professional Sports Authenticator, certified the coins and they were found thanks to the info on their slabs. According to PSA, the Foxborough, Mass., police didn’t have any leads until Numismatic Crime Information Center founder Doug Davis shared the coins' info via the NCIC network. They were found quickly after that.
"Within 30 minutes of sending out the alert, I received a call from another dealer who advised he had the coins and the identity of the person who sold them,” Davis said.

Nicole Kidman is a classic collector of coins. Her collection is reportedly focused on Judean coins from the fourth century B.C.E., but more details about it aren’t publicly available. With the $1 million per episode she’s making from HBO’s Big Little Lies, we bet she’s put some of that enormous paycheck into her coin collection.

Wayne Gretzky

.
.
Believe it or not, the king of hockey himself is a member of the ‘king of hobbies‘. Wayne Gretzky is one of the most well-known coin collectors involved in the hobby today. Gretzky is perhaps best-known for his incredible performance on the ice with teams like the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings during the 1980s and 1990s.

Danny Kaye collected coins and received many pieces from Israel as gifts for his support of them.
After his death, his family submitted nearly 400 coins to PCGS and paid extra to have them Slabbed in the premium "regency holder" of which there were only about 700 totals coins slabbed this way.
Today his collection represents over half of the PCGS regency slabs...
(Not my Pic - from internet)
It's all about what the people want...
Jack Black has a collection he talks about on one of the late night shows. Easily findable on youtube.

American comedian Jack Black (School of Rock, Tropical Thunder) appeared on Conan on TBS last night to promote his new film Jumanji.
Black, a renaissance man of many talents and interests, shared a side of him that most fans of his comedies and his band Tenacious D. might not have been aware of. Black is also a numismatist, with, judging by the coins he shared with Conan O’Brien, a rather sophisticated and fantastical collection.
The highlights of Black’s Collection are impressive, and very spicy.
1793 Cent, which according to Black, Americans thought was pornographic at the time. “You can’t show a woman with her hair flowing in the breeze!”

Love to know what the Great One collects. True fact, Gretz was traded from the Oil the very week I arrived for a 4-year stint in Edmonton (not to play hockey LOL). No matter, Mess took over and they went on to win another Cup in my time there. That was amazing hockey to watch................
This is a collection of Bill Elliot items, not a collection by Bill Elliot.

Walt Disney's coin collection:
He was not a collector in the modern sense, but he kept this "collection" of coins from his service days in France after World War I.
He kept the coins in a bag which was still in his possession when he died in 1966.
The coins are on display at the Disney Family Museum at the Presidio of San Francisco.

ha. nice. i gotta say, i am a fan of black. that is an amazing coin to have for him and he may have more expensive/scarce. it would probably melt my brain to talk to him about that level of coin!
when thinking about history and the various "standards" one society has from one to the next, from one continent to the next, over the millinea, the differences are stark at least. the taboo factor goes up and down just like the waves, as do laws, standards, knowledge, perceptions, etc.

Yes, about a year ago I had some pieces that were in the original flips from I believe a Stack's Auction in the early 90's come in. If I recall they were a mix of classic U.S. Material

I am surprised that people are surprised that famous individuals might collect coins. It is a hobby, they have lives outside their profession, and many have the funds to acquire coins that interest them. They are just like the rest of us, but with high profile occupations. Cheers, RickO
I think it's just you don't see much of their collections, unlike CEOs like Forsythe, Hansen, O'Dowd, Simpson, and others. CEOs tend to have their coins in Registry Sets and displayed for other collectors. I don't really see this for celebrities.
