Thinking about going to the ANA World's Fair of Money in Chicago, but...

I'm in Nashville.
I haven't been to a major coin show in over a decade.
I typically only buy from a very small group of dealers.
On the other hand, I'm an ANA Life Member and I've never been to one of these.
I read about the show, the exhibits, the scheduled events, etc., but haven't made up my mind.
Is it worth going? What do you think? Anything you can tell me to sway me one way or the other?

I've been to a couple of summer ANA shows. Many more regional and small shows.
Go. You'll enjoy it.
Hadn't been to a National show in a number of years, and went to this one last year.
I really liked the venue, the main exhibit last year was the Tyrant Collection (worth the trip by itself) and the immediate surrounding area is nice with different scales of restaurants, etc. I did fly in, shuttled to the hotel, stayed close, walked to and from everywhere, and had a great time.

Got a chance to see the 1933 Double Eagle on display last year at the GreatCollections booth. As puruitofliberty mentioned as well the Tyrant Collection was there - and wow, I could have spent a day mesmerized by each of those display cases.
Really looking forward to seeing what they have in store this year!

If you have not been to a major show, the experience is definitely worthwhile to attend either the ANA World's Fair of Money or the FUN Show in January. You have a nice drive for the former.
This year will be my third ANA in Chicago. I am looking forward to seeing the Great Collections exhibit with the run of Gold Proof coins all denominations. I will also stop in to talk with the 4 dealers I have bought from this year. It's the only chance I get to talk with them.
I will say I have not bought much during the shows. It is still fun to look around and see what crazy stuff is out there. Most of the time it is just setting up buys down the road.

If you like the museum aspect worth going lots of history. If selling you might find a buyer. I can hear not interested 10 times then I’ll find someone very interested in my coins. If buying “only” stay home unless money is no object. Sometimes I feel like they want me to pay all their expenses with one purchase. I live 45 minutes away and have to talk myself into going. I can run the entire day scenario through my head and come home without leaving.
Like Michael Jackson sang,

" I'll be There!"
Can't wait.

Come down here for Winter FUN and say hi. Lol

There is nothing like the legal high of going to a major show. Enjoy the exhibits, lot viewing, club presentations, running into friends/board members, checking out dealer inventories (maybe you’ll see something outside the 4 with whom you typically interact), and enjoying a great dinner at a nearby restaurant perhaps with one of your dealer friends or a few friends. Go for public day 1 of the show and stay overnight. Return home the next day. Make it an adventure!

I’m in nashville and I’m going 😎
It is definitely worth going.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
For me the lot viewing makes it worth the trip. Great opportunity to see many rare coins in the series i collect.
As @Jim Tyler mentioned, if you are going with the intention of buying, I have always been disappointed. The prices are sky high and as a retail buyer you are at a huge disadvantage.
Definitely come to the show for the earlier public entry days. End of show many Dealers are on their way home.
Get a hotel somewhere near the airport, there are many reasonable places to stay (unless you're Mr bigtime).
Bring cash to buy but don't get your hopes up. Dealers want YOU to help pay for those tables.
Bring some coins to sell. It's always informative to know exactly where reality lies.
Dealers are doing so many deals with other Dealers usually that you can't see what's in their cases. Accordingly, bring a note pad, section off the show by aisles, revisit Dealers you missed and wrote down.
Usually before a show there's a list of folks planning to be present. Consult that list just prior to leaving. You may meet board members who may be valuable contacts in the future.
Rosemont is a tiny, very upscale suburb of Chicago. Nothing like Chicago proper. The rifraf can be found a half mile north of the Stevens Center at Rivers Casino. It's a very nice area with great food, etc.
From Nashville the drive is all interstate and not hard at all.
If you buy from a dealer's website after the show, you're still helping to pay for those tables.
Just sayin'.
Last year's Rosemont ANA Show, I bumped into that NGC coin expert from the show, Pawn Stars. Young kid with a ton of knowledge.

His name eludes me.

It's defiantly worth going. One of the biggest shows of the year with plenty of dealers and exhibits to check out.
I can't wait to attend myself.

Flight's booked - (nice direct flight)
Room's booked
Will be there Tuesday thru Saturday (have to stay for the duration since I have an exhibit)
Have a Club table to hang out at all five days when I need to sit down for a while.
Hopefully, I'll find something to buy but, either way, they'll be plenty of folks to talk to and go out to dinner with that I won't see again until Winter FUN.

The ANA coin show is a big deal.... Many nice exhibits in the past as noted above. Certainly worth attending. Cheers, RickO
I've gone to some of the ANA winter shows along with Long Beach, FUN and others. Would like to make this one, but likely not happening due to work and other stuff going on.
You should go, the atmosphere at these shows is hard to top! That "one coin" could be waiting just for you!

If I could go this year I would. The dealers, coins, the exhibits and even the
mustard is worth the trip and experience. Hopefully those who get to
attend will post show reports and a lot of pictures. Since bullion is a little
crazy, some reports on prices and what is selling would be appreciated.
Safe travels and Vaya Con Dios.
@2ndCharter Hopefully you will post some pictures of your exhibit.
I enjoy seeing those at the ANA because they are always top notch.
Surprised @golden hasn’t chimed in!

Sorry, but I was at cardiac rehab when this thread started.
Yes,yes, yes! You must go to the ANA show. If you are a numismatist going to the ANA convention should be on #1 on your bucket list.
You will have the chance to meet dealers from around the world, see the Matte Proof Exhibit at Great Collections, look at auction lots, submit coins to be graded, sit in on numismatic talks, see the collector exhibits, look at some fantastic coins, meet fellow collectors, maybe even see Ben Franklin or Abe Lincoln. What is not to like?
I have been to every ANA Convention since 1970 and have enjoyed everyone. My convention bar railroad ( like Zions posted ) is now 33 inches long.
This year our daughter is planning to go with me. She has not been in a number of years. I am trying to get my wife to go with us.
I have made a list of dealers that I want to be sure and see. I made a list on a little piece of paper that I can put in my pocket and not have to get out the convention directory.
I am looking forward to the ANA convention just like a little kid looks forward to Christmas! I cannot wait to see what Santa has for me in Rosemont!
I'm going. Not my favorite venue, Parking etc. can be difficult. But well worth the trip just the same. Good luck.
You will see some wonderful stuff at the big ANA show, but the prices were be very strong. I prefer the Winter FUN show for that reason. I have not been to a big ANA show since I went to one in Philadelphia about 20 years ago.
