July 2022 Pickups Thread
New month, same card starts it as last month. Why, you ask? Because I’m still that happy! And it looks different and somehow the same card looks even better! Granted, it was never a perfect copy but the thrill of finding it and the legitimate scarcity makes me really happy with it and proud of it. With just 135 graded (122 Authentic), I think it looks really sharp in the scan and on display it looks even better. I would also like to offer a major tip of the cap to PSA on turning it around so quickly (Express).
Lastly, now seeing it slabbed, I’m extra glad I left the borders alone. I think the wear is charming and straight skinny borders with sharp corners would not match the overall aesthetic.
Now, enough about this card, I want to see the cardboard treats you guys scoop this month!!!
Happy Independence Day, CU!!!

hey 51Wheaties,
Awesome turn around time from PSA for you... and let's hope that I can also score some cardboard treats this month as well...
Devin Hester Topps Chrome rookie that I got signed at a show in March.
My dad was laid to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ this Tuesday. Then this arrived today.
Thank you Jesus for my dad. Very grateful.

Nice card. Might just be tilt as opposed to diamond cut.
Welcome!

Love the set and love the card, which was the first in the set. This is a pretty solid example; a bit off center and some corner weakness but a really solid print job and an overall sharp looking card for being 67 years old.

@Goldenage I'm sorry for your loss. My Dad passed a little over 5 years ago, I know the journey. Praying for your comfort and strength.
Nice raw pick-up. Love the rough cut on the left edge!
hey PNWcollector,
Yeah that one's pretty cool...
I'm just a tad bit ecstatic right now...
I love little oddball items like this. PSA hasn't graded any of them yet and I haven't been able to find any reliable information or checklist about them online so I'll enjoy them in their raw form for now. 1977, 1980 and 1982 NFL TV Slides Terry Bradshaw.
hey kcherevka,
Pretty cool on your Bradshaw slide, and yes I do like to accumulate those "odd-ball" items myself...
Very touching.
just picked up a 1986 topps tiffany baseball set. the centering is all over the place on this set. some cards are miscuts. if anyone has any partial sets to get rid of let me know. really happy with the ryan and clemens and puckett. i wish the ripken and mattingly were much better.
Pick-up from my LCS today.
Nice looking card. Centering is off the charts. Congrats.
Yea I was surprised to see that card in their case. Usually a bunch of overpriced VGEX-EX types
Happy Fourth !!!!
hey ScoobyDoo2,
Oh my...that's a nice one...
What a beauty !!
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
A this year pickup - SWEETNESS
Amazing card and pickup Chris.
So who wants to try to follow that?
Brian
What a Payton!!
I have seen you post several examples of this card over the years, Chris. So I imagine it is an especially meaningful card to you. It is an absolute beauty to behold. And I couldn’t be happier for you; thank you for always sharing your incredible pickups with these forums.
🎊🍾🎉🎈Congratulations 🎊🍾🎉🎈

The 2022 Tour is in progress and was happy to be able to add this one to my Merckx set — pop 1 none higher.
I added a few RYNO cards to the collection this month. I'd have to say the 1986 topps card of Ryno is my favorite of all of his base cards.
how in the world did you get that card. the best looking ten i seen for a while. even on ebay i do not see some ten's that nice. it will be hard to top your card for this month.
Sweet pickup Chris! I know see what I did there. 😉
You also grabbed a rack with him on top correct?
@lwehlers ....... he is like Liam Neeson..... "he has a certain set of skills".
Not me. After seeing that '68 Rose followed by the '76 Payton, I'm done posting...lol
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
These items are not new but they’re now in PSA slabs. More of the norm for me; solid eye appeal, lower grade vintage Yankees goodness…

ESPN reported there might be something to this guy~
Thanks for the positive vibes on the Payton. I had a PSA 9 at one time and sold it in 2020.
I always wanted a 10 but passed a lot on bidding on them. There was one a couple years ago that was incredible front and back (the back was dead centered) and I lost in the bidding war. I kept my eyes open with hope for a strong candidate and this one showed up on PSA's Social Media as being freshly graded. I then watched for it like a hawk to possibly come up for auction and it did. Happy this 8 year pursuit is over!!
Love all the cards being shared!! I try to look at this board often but have been working on projects outdoors quite a bit since Spring.
Keep on crankin' out the card candy!!
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
Just got these back after a long hiatus
This one too. Dead centered.
hey Goldenage,
Pretty cool Bobby O's...
This is the little premium photo that came with the game; the size on these is an odd 7x9.
The 'name listed' is the one PSA uses when they holder it.
1957 - 59 Gardner Toys Mickey Mantle's Big League Baseball Game Premium Photo - Mickey Mantle
A very well used pose on a variety of items from early in his career, he looks so young and happy which makes the pose one of my favorites. Specifically, this is a plain and simple looking print on almost magazine paper thin glossy stock; this specific example has some visible bending top right and other indentations that’s probably (and thankfully) more noticeable on the blank back. Low technical grade while retaining pretty strong eye appeal.

hey 51Wheaties,
That looks very fragile...
My son pulled this Bobby Witt Jr from a box we ripped this past weekend. He was so stoked.
And this one is mine!

I'm not sure why anyone else even bothers posting anything after that Sweetness RC in a PSA 10, but this Pippen arrived yesterday. (Rodman is from April/May, but I think they go well together.)

Congrats on the great pull from your son!!! What a thrill that must have been for him. The type of thing that keeps the collecting gene going on another generation.
Thanks Monte for the '65 Koufax - it is a downgrade from my SGC 9 that is actually an upgrade because the card is nicer. I am selling the SGC (first card I have sold in decades) and hope I get some $ to put towards a need on one of my projects.
Have always wanted one of the '51 panels with a HOFer on it.
May eventually work on the HOF Stand-Up set - really like them and even if I never decide to pursue it, always have my eye out for nice ones I don't have yet.
Just got this bad boy.
