    I'm at 63 too.
It's very clean. I just don't see enough luster for a higher grade.
It could be there but I can't see it in the pics

Thought it was a 58 at first, but zooming in ... maybe it is Unc ... 62 if so.

I feel a 63, but without much luster showing to me in the photo, I couldn't see higher.

Tough and great type. Probably not enough pizzaz for MS63, but could be.

    I won't try. Bought a 45 that I though was a lock at 50-55 but it didn't even bean as a 45.

    Well, ok. 62+

First impression 62... easily could be any other grade though in different light 🤤

Interesting around the upper left stars and Half, some kind of doubling?

    1. I would guess 58, but I keep getting burned doing that.

I’m not sure if it is toning or friction on the breast. If the former, 63. If rub, 58.

  • Batman23Batman23 Posts: 4,999 ✭✭✭✭✭

My first impression was 58 because of the lack of luster in the obverse fields. But I am not seeing the wear on the highpoints. Put me in with the MS63 group.

    1. I think there is more going on in the fields than is obvious from the photo. Appears rather bland, possibly from a long ago dipping.

I'd go MS-62. At first I thought MS-63, but the subdued luster usually gets the coin knocked down.

    I like the piece BTW.

I don't see any wear, so I'll go with 62, due to a fair amount of light marks, and the luster looking sort of flat.

Thanks for all the great guesses! I bought this coin in an NGC MS61 holder and it crossed to PCGS AU58. I had expected PCGS would call it a 58, as the luster really is flat, but there isn't much of what I would consider wear either. I think this coin would bounce between 58 and 61 depending on who was looking at.

    Happy Easter!

I don’t see any wear on the coin and like it a lot at either of those two grades.

as the person that went 55+, i will add that i wouldn't have been surprised by 61 but 62 would have been too much. what is hard to see with this coin, w/o magnification and/or looking at the larger size TV, is that the coins has a LOT of contact marks, small scratches etc indicating it has banged around inside something for a while. i'm not saying it is a bad coin at all, just why i chose essentially a lower grade than anyone else but it is ok at 58 as well though i doubt it would cac at that unless they just really like nice seated coins there and give it a slight pass due to age (which it may as well deserve, ESPECIALLY as a pre-civil war branch mint coin)

please update the title in the future.i was wringing my hands in anticipation until i just looked through the posts to find your grade. no biggie but had to ask. :)

If you don't see any wear why would you say you like it at either grade?

Because it’s a nice looking coin, regardless of the assigned grade. Maybe I should have said I like it a lot as a 61 and love it as a 58.

Can't be both an uncirculated coin in an uncirculated holder OR a circulated coin in a AU holder, Shouldn't be both.
I'm sure a MS65 would really look great in an AU holder as well.
