Anyone chasing coins in this weeks Stack’s auctions?
I’ll be crossing my fingers that some of the lots I’m watching fall in a realistic price range but I’ve been all but blown away in all my attempts in recent months.
Anyone else making some serious plays to add to their collection in this red hot market?

Yep, but I've had the same experience, bidding well over list and historical auction results. Underbidder eight times, way off more times. One win in the last few auctions. Gratifying market, but I have no plans to sell, only buy.
I have purchased a number of coins at Heritage, GC, but this is my first time this week participating in the Stack's auction. I am not sure what I am getting into on the live online bidding.
Maybe……..
I’ll never tell.
I have my eyes on a few things, I did their lot viewing up in Baltimore for the coins I was interested in, We shall see what happens.

Will let you know what I have my eyes on after I win.
Fingers crossed.

Kennedys are my quest...
Yep, I’ve got my name on a couple. Won one of four I was bidding on at GC last night..
me too, hope its not the same coin!
They had it on display at the Baltimore show in room 307 and I deliberately avoided it due to possible temptations arising and my serious lack of self control
All the very best to whoever is chasing them.

Everything I've watched is already multiples over what I expected. Sitting this one out

well, i'm out,i did a max bid $6,500(pre fees) on a PR67 penny with CAC price guide of $4,500 and no auction result over $4k. I bid 5 minutes before live auction and someone came in at $7k pre live auction. I'm very sad this morning
Watching the medals go live right now. Prices seem extremely strong. Lots of bidding on every lot.
Some serious bidding wars already, and it is ONLY the first day.

The gold Daniel Morgan at Cowpens medal went for a million dollars! I think this may be a record in exonumia

I still have a couple lines in the water.
Oh yeah some good stuff.
I agree. I had my eyes on a couple of pieces, and they already beyond my limits, and we have not gotten close to auction day when things usually go crazy.
It's the only Comitia Americana medal that is available to collectors in gold. Of course it's not the original medal, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
I am happy with the these two.
Paris Mint strike made from the new set of dies that were sunk to produce that gold medal.
Philadelphia Mint strike, probably from the 1860s.
What auction? There’s an auction going on this week? /s
One today still upcoming, but I am now the underbidder and I just do not think I want to bid any higher.

These double struck fugio cents are freaking awesome

Chasing No, hoping yes…but hope is fleeting…2 of 4 items are a distant memory. The other 2, not feeling comfortable they will hold up, but still have a chance.
No, just lusting after the Fairmont collection...
Not chasing here. I took a couple of pot shots and they all ran away. I can't afford to chase.
I'll probably only own the pewter one I have of the Daniel Morgan
Come on PowerBall!
Please don't. I'm sure we are after the same lot and I'm already at my max bid.
I'm always chasing something. I actually won one.
I thought that 500k estimate was very conservative.
Had my eye on that one but it was too... fruity.
I kid, congrats!

A lot of serious collectors here on the forums. If none of us are winning anything, it really begs the question:
Who is buying all this stuff at such inflated prices?

I couldn't resist at that price. It's over an ounce of 14 karat
Lol
I like the fruityness.
0/1 but tough coin to estimate and pp was fair. On to the Heritage auction later this month. Hope springs eternal.
Sold from $55,200. I thought when it sat @ 10k that was a very good deal

Yes. I'm a little surprised at that number but it is a beautiful coin and so nearly unique
Lol I very much doubt that it is the same lot, I do not chase old holders anymore due to the crazy runup in prices.

But there's really only a couple hundred active members here. There are thousands of serious collectors that are never on this forum.
True. We represent a VERY small division.

So my conclusion is that the average disposable income to buy coins is greater for the collectors outside of the forum than the active forum members. Let's toast our inadequate budgets!
If we recruit DL Hanson to the forum that could tilt the balance of power to us.
Will I win? Maybe.
Will I make the other guy pay full retail if they win? Absolutely!
Yeah, hoping I can snag a half dollar to upgrade my type set.
That’s the fighting spirit!
I think we win our share. You just have to recognize how small our share is of the overall coin market.
There were only 563 lots in today's Stacks auction? What's our share?
I bet @ErrorsOnCoins won a few lots in the Heritage auction.
I just won my second lot in the Stacks auction.
Maybe we didn't win any $100k lots...or maybe someone did...
Last couple I bought I was buried. Turns out the winner was the underbidder. I won’t look this time.
Nothing for me this time.
I think that was said about the underbidder on the 1870 cc $20 that sold for $1.8M.
I'm done chasing coins online. I'm sick of spending all the time throwing in strong bids and never winning. Im better off going to a local shop or show.
Two types of posts in these threads...
No. 1 would indicate that stuff is selling for crazy money, No. 2 makes it look like stuff goes cheap. Seems like they can't both be true...
