Anyone chasing coins in this weeks Stack’s auctions?

ProofmorganProofmorgan Posts: 736 ✭✭✭✭✭

I’ll be crossing my fingers that some of the lots I’m watching fall in a realistic price range but I’ve been all but blown away in all my attempts in recent months.

Anyone else making some serious plays to add to their collection in this red hot market?

Yep, but I've had the same experience, bidding well over list and historical auction results. Underbidder eight times, way off more times. One win in the last few auctions. Gratifying market, but I have no plans to sell, only buy.

I have purchased a number of coins at Heritage, GC, but this is my first time this week participating in the Stack's auction. I am not sure what I am getting into on the live online bidding.

They had it on display at the Baltimore show in room 307 and I deliberately avoided it due to possible temptations arising and my serious lack of self control
All the very best to whoever is chasing them.

well, i'm out,i did a max bid $6,500(pre fees) on a PR67 penny with CAC price guide of $4,500 and no auction result over $4k. I bid 5 minutes before live auction and someone came in at $7k pre live auction. I'm very sad this morning :'(

Watching the medals go live right now. Prices seem extremely strong. Lots of bidding on every lot.

The gold Daniel Morgan at Cowpens medal went for a million dollars! I think this may be a record in exonumia

I agree. I had my eyes on a couple of pieces, and they already beyond my limits, and we have not gotten close to auction day when things usually go crazy.

Chasing No, hoping yes…but hope is fleeting…2 of 4 items are a distant memory. The other 2, not feeling comfortable they will hold up, but still have a chance.

Not chasing here. I took a couple of pot shots and they all ran away. I can't afford to chase.

I thought that 500k estimate was very conservative.

I couldn't resist at that price. It's over an ounce of 14 karat

    I like the fruityness.

Yes. I'm a little surprised at that number but it is a beautiful coin and so nearly unique

Lol I very much doubt that it is the same lot, I do not chase old holders anymore due to the crazy runup in prices.

A lot of serious collectors here on the forums. If none of us are winning anything, it really begs the question:
Who is buying all this stuff at such inflated prices?

But there's really only a couple hundred active members here. There are thousands of serious collectors that are never on this forum.

True. We represent a VERY small division.

So my conclusion is that the average disposable income to buy coins is greater for the collectors outside of the forum than the active forum members. Let's toast our inadequate budgets! :s

I think that was said about the underbidder on the 1870 cc $20 that sold for $1.8M.

I'm done chasing coins online. I'm sick of spending all the time throwing in strong bids and never winning. Im better off going to a local shop or show.

Two types of posts in these threads...

    1. "No matter how high I bid, I never win."
    2. "I'll never make my money back when I go to sell."

No. 1 would indicate that stuff is selling for crazy money, No. 2 makes it look like stuff goes cheap. Seems like they can't both be true... ;)
