Geez - you're a high speed collector. I'm thinking speed chess for some reason.

Wish I had your bankroll. Peel a few thousand my way?

I look at the Seated Dollars the same as I do my Barbers. It’s not as much about the money as finding the coins. That’s why I’m jumping when I see one that does it for me!

Wasn’t going for 58’s but the price was right and I really like the coin! It’s lighter than my phone picture. Actually for a change the true view is pretty much spot on.

A very nice looking 60-O! Well struck also!

It is really tough if one is interested in CAC only. The OP is not interested in that select group.

Other than the 56...would you turn any of these coins down?????

Hmmm...the Norweb 70-S has my sticker on the reverse. I may have handled this coin a couple of times. Also have seen many great Seated Dollars over the years. One of my all time favorite series!

It’s hard for us to truly tell from pics. But from what I can see….IMHO I’d say the 42,53,60o and 72s deserve a shot at a sticker. The 42 looks like a dark original coin without any obvious issues not sure the grade on her but if it’s accurately graded could have a shot. The 53 looks like it may have some light lines in the field but is well above the average and certainly is at least a B coin. The 72s is not perfect but is also above average and I call it a B+. Leaving the 56 $ out of this discussion. The others all seem to please my eye more then a dipped out white coin but each has something that may prevent stickering. 50o-reverse rim, 40 rims and reverse toning, 71 old cleaning, 59o right obverse field by her leg. 70cc in the star crevices and in the reverse shield there is white which looks like it could be baking soda, The 59s looks better then a lot of others but may have had an old cleaning.

If you were to submit them all as a collector it would not cost you much. But if you get lucky and get a few green beans you will certainly enjoy a great return on that small cost sending them to CAC. Also if you do send to CAC and get a sticker or two out of the 15 coins you would be on par with most other SLD collections that are submitted. Very few SLDs get stickered.

Don’t take these comments as a knock. I own coins that have CAC approval and ones that failed. The ones that failed… I believe are better then most (same as yours) but still they are not worthy of the bean. I still love them but it is what it is.

Also note I know that there are many SLDs that don’t deserve a sticker that have a sticker. I avoid these coins because I don’t like them. But if you get a sticker on a coin like that it’s a win for you. Because it will add liquidity and demand. There are people who buy the green sticker and not the coin.

Your making tremendous progress and I’m enjoying your set build!

Yes. I have different collecting goals and do not have enough info regarding each of your coins even if I had the same goals.

I never claimed to be patient and become bored easily. So I’m going to be playing the upgrade game as I work on this set!

Well when I did my Morgan set I took over a decade and still did some upgrades and went back and fixed some mistakes. So set changes seem the norm to me.

It's way nicer than my cellphone pic. Eventually I'll take better pictures. I feel lucky to have acquired this coin! I'm just going to continue with my cellphone pics for consistency. When I feel motivated I'll probably start a registry set and do a digital album with better pics.

  • amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yes, This one doesn’t match the set I’m building. I wanted 1 with what I call the Morgan Dollar look as a type. This one has it and is somewhat PL. Down the road I will buy a toned one to match my set.

Based on the other thread and the 1869 shown above which you already want to replace. It looks like you are in a race to finish this set and are just buying every coin you can find regardless of the look. Makes little sense to me but kind of explains why you hate CAC and there emphasis on originality so much. Just buying and selling coins seems to be the bottom line for you. Sorry if I am wrong and please correct me, but that is the impression I am getting.

LOL, you didn't read what I wrote! I wanted 1 blast white coin for type. The only other coin I bought that doesn't match is the 1856. I bought it because the price was right and it's not an easy coin to find. It will be easy for me to sell at a profit. If that 1867 looked like the picture it would fill the hole just fine until I found another and I think I would have been able to get my money out of it.

PS I won't be replacing the 1869, I will be adding a 2nd to the set!

This is no easy task... as it is very problematic being patient as well as being in the right place at the right time to get the right coin.

Those bumps (on the 50-O) look more like marks from being in a holder of some sort

If there were 3 I would agree.

Maybe it wasn’t in a holder, but the marks are exactly 180 degrees apart and too similar to be random. The coin was probably clamped between two opposing objects, even if only for a moment. Other than that, a great look, but I’d be on the lookout for an upgrade if I were you.

I like the 1850 $. Was thinking about bidding on her for my 2nd set but a large deal took a lot of my coin money. Any time you can add a nice coin from the 50s decade is a plus! I am curious if the scratch is on the holder or the coin? Looked like it was on the holder in their pics. Either way the old saying apples…. Find me a better one! Congrats on adding a great date in a sweet grade.

    @MrEureka

I saw this coin in hand years ago and it faces up very well in hand and in pics. Only when it’s tilted under harsh light can you see lines. I do agree the notches in the back were intentionally made for the same reasons you pointed out. This is a very tough date to find nice and problem free. CAC pop tells the story.

  • amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

The scratch is on the 1850 but it’s only visible when you tilt the coin and not as bad as the pictures.
