DeSean Watson decision is expected Monday. League sources gave Watson the weekend to settle the 4 outstanding cases and it looks like that didn’t happen.
Sources also stated if he could have settled the suspension could have been as low as 2 games. Now 2-8 games is expected.

I'm hearing good things from Chiefs camp about rookie receiver Skyy Moore.
I guess the Chiefs are pretty impressed with him.

Below is from an article written by Jesse Newell.............

****Here’s an example: Mahomes says there are times when Moore will ask him if he can change a specific route if the defense is playing a certain way. Following through on those types of in-play adjustments has made Mahomes’ connections with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill so strong in previous seasons. “A lot of times rookies are just trying to figure out how can they get to the right spot as fast as possible, but he can recognize the coverage and ask if he has the freedom to do this, this and this,” Mahomes said of Moore. “Those are questions you want to hear from your receivers.” Moore has been one of the Chiefs’ early camp standouts so far, bringing in another long catch from Mahomes during light drills Thursday.****

I personally think there are going to be a lot of surprised 'so called football experts' when the regular season
has started and the Chiefs passing game is clipping along like they never even had a receiver named Tyreek Hill.
I will miss Tyreek, he made a lot of great plays for KC, but I'm starting to think we'll have a lot more balanced
cache of receiving targets for Mahomes. If Moore helps immediately like expected, KC will have 5 outstanding
targets, possibly more, as they have a couple more rookies that are looking good.
Smith Shuster, Valdez Scantling, and the one namer's Kelce, Hardman, and Moore.
Plus a couple of backs who are great at catching passes and the juggernaut will still roll without Tyreek.
Expecting Mahomes to log at least 5,000 yards passing this year.

In short, I believe the Chiefs offense will look and perform more like the McQueen 'Bullit' mustang,
    than the 1980 Ford mustang.

Mahomes will be playing the first quarter of the Chiefs preseason game against the Bears Saturday.
I expect the first team offense to look fairly sharp. Chiefs have several rookies especially on defense who could
contribute substantially to the fortunes of KC this year.
Also very interested to see how the receiving corps does including the rookie Skyy Moore.

It was a nice opening drive for Mahomes and the boys. Scantling had a nice catch.
Mahomes is going to have a lot of targets to throw to, I expect a great year from the offense
as long as they stay healthy. Like Mahomes said, let them run their routes and whoever gets
open is going to get the ball.
I actually didn't watch much after the first quarter, I fell asleep and then when I woke up
I channel surfed and saw a movie called "the earth dies screaming" was on so I watched that.
It was from back in the day of scifi when alien robots and zombies walked extremely slow.
Still presented a formidable challenge to British earthlings circa 1964.

In short, thumbs up to KC and the movie.

Me too, buddy, me too!! I've had a lot going on this year. Still do. Looking forward to the beautiful distraction of NFL football. I'll be riding the roller coaster that might be the Patriots. I'll try to watch every Brady game if I can. I have a strong feeling that this is the last year. And as always I will be inundated with Cowboys information. The team force feeds Koolaid to it's fans every off-season. Despite what makes the news, I always see a lot of hope down here. That hope inevitably crumbles and is followed by anger and pitchforks. But it is a yearly cycle. I am sure it is the same for many teams. We are not yet at that poit with the Pats. Still in the development stage. lol

Just heard sports betting will be legal in Kansas on Sept. 1 at all 4 state owned casinos'.
I probably haven't bet on any sports in about 15-20 years.
I always found that I just don't enjoy the games as much if I have money riding on the outcome.

Watched some of the Pats game last night, couldn't stand the announcing crew so had to turn off
the sound. Typical idiots that only liked to talk about themselves and how many pushups they could do.
Thank goodness I grew up with Denny Mathews and Fred White on the radio so I know what excellence
is in the broadcast booth. Miss those days.

Massachusetts approved sports betting but it will probably take awhile to figure out language and behind the scenes kickbacks ect

Betting, fantasy and other gambling is for games your not watching or your favorite team, it ruins it for sure

    perk and showtime........................
I happened to be watching when the Pats punted and one of their receivers made an amazing play, diving
into the end zone to slap the ball back into play. I heard he was on the bubble on making the team, but I
guarantee making a hustle play like that definitely puts you in good graces with the coaches. Can't remember
his name but he's number 83 and is 6'4". Hope he makes the team I like to see guys who put some effort
    into it get rewarded.
Did you guys watch the game? What do you think of the Pats chances this year?

That's Lil'Jordan Humphrey. I do hope he makes the team. He was undrafted out of Texas in 2019. Three years with the Saints, mainly practice squad.

I didn't watch the entire game. I watched the part that Mac Jones played in.

I'm sticking with my prediction that I made elsewhere (in my mind, probably)...11-6 Yes, I am optimistic. I actually went through the schedule with @erikthredd and made that prediction with advanced game by game future analytics (again, my mind, probably). So if you are watching your blood pressure, you might want to stay away from my prediction (which must be taken with infinite grains of salt).

I just watched your Chiefs and Mahomes impressively get down the field.

Hey Darin, I watched it intermittently. I didnt see the play but I'm pretty sure that if that player is on the bubble to make the team it will help but only if it makes sense for Hoodie.

I don't see the Pats winning mire than 8 games this year, I will be rooting for them every week though

I'm getting second thoughts about your Chiefs. I completely spaced that they got Ju Ju on the Squad, I think they will make a decent run at it again this year

    Good luck buddy 👍

I watched a few series of the 49ers vs Texans tonight. Mostly I wanted to see Trey Lance. I don't feel like I know much more now than I did. Are there any 49ers fans or anyone in general who can give some assessment of Lance?

    ...
It is. Although I guess they are banking on their little bit of wiggle room turning into pay-dirt. By that I mean...they made the decision to draft Lance...

Let me go on a tangent here, before I continue. They moved up in the draft from number 12 to number 3 (giving up 2 first round picks). So then the pressure was on. They had to take their QB of the future. I've copy and pasted the first 15 picks of that draft so we can think about what actually happened.

I will admit that I was not dialed in to everything SF-wise before the draft, so I don't really know how to interpret the Mac Jones story lines that swirled around them. If I remember correctly (and I probably don't, so someone please correct me) Lawrence going one was a given (I remember that). Wilson going two to the Jets was also pretty set in stone. So that left the 49ers with their choice (assuming they take a QB) of Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones. I've since been told that the following story was a smokescreen, but I don't know...and by that I mean the idea that they moved up to take their QB, but then faced significant backlash because it seemed their QB would be Jones and Jones would be available later and wasn't deserving of going so high. Then the narrative became that they were going after Lance all along. You guys can right my wrongs on this one.

Either way, yes they are in a corner, but they see daylight with the idea that Lance will ball-out and make everyone forget about Jimmy G. Lance having relatively immediate success is the only way they don't get bit on this one, because if he doesn't the question becomes 'Why didn't you let him develop behind Garoppolo longer?'.

    1) Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
    2) New York Jets – Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
    3) San Francisco 49ers (from HOU through MIA) – Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
    4) Atlanta Falcons – Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
    5) Cincinnati Bengals – Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
    6) Miami Dolphins (from PHI) – Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
    7) Detroit Lions – Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
    8) Carolina Panthers – Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
    9) Denver Broncos – Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
    10) Philadelphia Eagles (from DAL) – DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
    11) Chicago Bears (from NYG) – Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
    12) Dallas Cowboys (from PHI through SF, MIA) – Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
    13) Los Angeles Chargers – Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
    14) New York Jets (from MIN) – Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL, USC
    15) New England Patriots – Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

I'm not a fan if Jimmy G so I'm ok with the trade, honestly I don't know a whole lot about Lance but looking at how close the 49'ers were last year I wonder if they would have been better served taking a Jamar Chase or Jaylen Waddle?

@perkdog I am no Jimmy G fan either. As far as I know, Kyle Shanahan thinks that Garoppolo is holding up his offense, and with Lance they will have a chance to do what McVay did in LA by switching from Goff to Stafford (random shout-out to @hydrant ).

Interesting , somewhat, how the Jimmy G saga unfolded. He is staying in SF. For now. He greed to re-work the contract and the team agreed to put a no trade clause in the contract. Apparently this makes his contract more attractive for trades while also giving him vetoing power.

We definitely need the duece man around here! Since Kansas now has legal sports betting I've
decided to stake 2K on NFL betting this year. If I lose the 2K, I'm done.
And I think the Bills are going to beat the Rams on opening day so it would be nice to get our Bills fan's thoughts.

Yes I'm sure I will. I like them over the Cardinals first game, I don't even know if odds are out yet
on the first NFL games but I would think the Rams should be favored over the Bills since they are SB
champs and its a home game. I would think Rams favored by 2.5 would be about right.
Chiefs- Cardinals I don't know, Chiefs might be favored even though its an away game against a tough team.

We definitely need the duece man around here! Since Kansas now has legal sports betting I've
decided to stake 2K on NFL betting this year. If I lose the 2K, I'm done.
And I think the Bills are going to beat the Rams on opening day so it would be nice to get our Bills fan's thoughts.

    ...
Will you be betting on Chiefs games?

Yes I'm sure I will. I like them over the Cardinals first game, I don't even know if odds are out yet
on the first NFL games but I would think the Rams should be favored over the Bills since they are SB
champs and its a home game. I would think Rams favored by 2.5 would be about right.
Chiefs- Cardinals I don't know, Chiefs might be favored even though its an away game against a tough team.

Am I wrong, or do I see the Bills favored by 2.5. If so, that being in LA, that's actually like a 5 point spread, meaning Bills are heavy favorites. I don't know...

5 6 days til our wait is over. I am not a fan of Thursday night games but I love that week one starts early. I'm thinking that the Bills will win, but I will be rooting for the Rams. Now that the Pats are the way they are (by that I mean not so good) we need our division to stink to have a chance at winning it. Though I don't see that happening. I'm hoping for a wildcard berth, but with these new look Pats (not very good) I'll be rooting for some good wins and a team that looks like they are improving as the season progresses.

Edited to correct the number of days

So the SB champs are getting no respect? Probably will stay away from that game if the Bills are actually
the favorite over the Super Bowl winner playing at home.

Maybe one thing I'm concerned about with the Chiefs.
Never really got a good look at JuJu Smith Shuster in the pre season.
But I think he's proven that he can perform at a high level just hope he stays away from the injury bug.
Defensive backfield should be better, pass rush should be better, offensive backfield should be better,
more targets for Mahomes to throw to, he really spread the ball around in the preseason games.

For those saying the Bills should be the favorites in the AFC, first of all that's a lot of disrespect to the Bengals
not to mention Buffalo couldn't even get past the lowly Kansas City Chiefs, who by the way have played
in 4 straight AFC championship games. I wonder how many Championship games the Bills have played in
the last 4 or 5 years since Josh Allen has been the QB?

I heard that they are thinking of one day rebranding the AFC Championship game as the Tom Brady Invitational. 😎

See my Swami thread for a few interesting ideas. I’ll post my week on picks on Sunday. Early on I think Baltimore wins huge over the Jets. I mean huge blow out. Baltimore is going to make an early season statement. Even though I think the jets are much improved I think Baltimore is pissed about last year.

The Bills March to the Super Bowl or disappointment again as usual since 1990.
It’s quite possible the Bills start 3-3 as the early schedule is not kind.
    Rams loss
Titans the never match up against them loss
    Miami W
    Baltimore W
    Pittsburgh W
    Kansas City L
    3-3 into the bye week
Green Bay W. Only because they’re home
    Jets W
    Minnesota W
    Cleveland W
    Detroit W
    New England W
    Jets W
    Miami W
    Chicago W
    Cincinnati W
    New England L
    13-4
They could stink up a game or lose to Green Bay or Minnesota
    12-5
    AFC East Final standings
    Buffalo 13-4
    Miami 9-8
    New England 8-9
    NY Jets 6-11

What do you think about the decision to bring back Jimmy G to back up Trey Lance? Was it really the off season surgery and salary that made it impossible to trade him? We see now money wasn’t a factor as he took a pay cut to $6M. Seattle or Carolina would have doubled that in a New York minute. I understand not trading him to Seattle but if the 49ers really thought he was finished why do they care who he went to?
I don’t care what the talk is between Lance and the 49ers. This has to be the weirdest situation I’ve ever seen. Do you not think Lance looks over his shoulder after every interception, every loss, every failed fourth quarter comeback.
    Let’s look at the schedule
    Seahawks, Broncos, Rams
They have to start 2-1 but what if it’s a 1-2 start?
    Panthers, Falcons,
They absolutely have to go 2-0
If they are 4-1 all is well in 49ers land.
    3-2 questions.
    Now comes the meat
    Chiefs, Rams, Chargers, Cardinals
I think this brutal 4 game stretch will tell us a lot about this team.
If they are 5-4 and 2 games behind the Rams it will be gut check for them
I see no reason they can’t finish 10-7 if Lance is all he’s billed or hyped to be.
    49ers fans thoughts?

    ......
The reworked deal gives the 49ers better leverage in a trade scenario. And the no-trade clause appeased Garoppolo enough to commit to this. It is very possible that the 49ers are making a mistake by keeping Garoppolo around. It depends on how Lance performs and how his psychological makeup is. We'll find out.
